So,

Walking the dog by the local football fields, there in the car park was a Range Rover, unoccupied with the engine running and no one near enough to stop me or anyone else jumping in and disapearing with it.... Read more

I live on a coastal estuary. You'd be surprised how many brand new Range Rovers get stuck in the mud up to the axles 20 yards off the slipway because someone fancied trying it's or their off road capabilities! Wonder how insurance would work in that scenario!

I am currently using the 1.0 turbo mild hybrid and finding it a bit of a "curate's egg".

The engine has 118 horses but at times feels either under-torqued or over- geared.... Read more

Hi all - I'm looking to buy a used petrol car that I can commute in but also 4 adults can comfortably travel long distances in. So plenty of rear leg room.

My budget is fairly limited £4000 - and I can't travel far to rest drive (live in St Leonards) so max 50 miles from here.... Read more

I had a 2004 CMax 1.8 petrol in Zetec trim for 10 years. It proved reliable and reasonably comfortable. Mine had the three part rear seats where the centre section could be folded up into the boot space (or removed completely), the outer seats then could be slid back diagonally giving a four seater with masses of rear legroom. Not sure if this feature was carried forward to the later models.

Our 2011 Meriva had this too, though if memory serves the centre section of the back rest folded forward then it and the base pushed down. Obviously boot space is boot space is reduced with the rear seats in this configuration, but still pretty decent....

New owner

Hi,

My new Renault Clio hybrid is due for collection soon. Can recent new vehicle owners please share their experience on what to look and check for before I take the delivery? Did you get any pre-delivery inspection certificate from your dealer? Read more

Sometimes you’ll find a bag of standard wheel bolts that have been removed to install locking ones.
Check the contents of the bag they’re in - the locking wheel nut key may also be in there.

Forgive me for asking, but how does it know to 'auto-dip'? Whilst it may have sensors to detect the lights from an oncoming vehicle, it may not be able to detect or distinguish between (say) a pedestrian and a post box, or large farm animal being led from one field to another in the early hours, etc, and you need to have your lights on dipped for both.

I don't know if they are all the same but mine don't auto dip for people/animals.

We. Eventually came to an agreement to split the cost of the replacement 50/50

So after finding a fault with your car a day after purchase you agreed to pay 1/2 the cost despite the law saying any fault within in the first 30 days should be fixed FOC or you are entitled to reject. The dealer clearly knew it was faulty, they would not have done any work if it had been OK....

I have a 1 litre Hyundai i10, a '64' plate but new in January 2015 which I bought four months ago. For a few weeks the red oil light has flashed on briefly on a few occasions, mostly either when hitting a pothole, speed ramp or cornering. It would come on for a second then go off. Christmas week however this became more and more frequent. Sometimes it would remain on when the car was started an only go off when just over 2000 revs were reached but would still then keep coming on and off. It's now developed a whirring or rustling sound coming from the offside area of the engine. I'm advised this may to do with the oil pump?

I'm not very good with cars so can't be sure. The noise is coming from the area the pump is apparently located however. I'm also warned there may be serious engine damage and I may need a replacement engine. The runs as well as it always has, the temperature gauge stay at the level it should. I've checked the oil which is at it's maximum level, perhaps a tad over.... Read more

<< Why didn't you read the manual or ask yourself why there is an oil warning light? Checking the oil level would be a good idea, do they not ask for how to do this as part of the driving test? >>

Galileo, it looks as if you didn't read as far as the OP's last sentence ? :-)...

Hi all

I currently have an MG ZS but will be looking to move away from this in 2024. I'm looking for a second hand car, relatively low mileage (under 30K), comfortable, fairly nippy, pretty big boot space and suitable for a small family. My budget is around £18k.... Read more

Estimated mileage is 12-14,000 miles per year. Combination of ten minute journeys to work/nursery/shops, with longer journeys to clients (50-150 miles) a couple of times a week.

Borderline choice between petrol and diesel then. Although a diesel should use less fuel, that fuel usually costs more, so the saving is not great. Probably the complexity of modern diesels might be enough to tip the balance towards petrol - especially if you go near a ULEZ ?...
