We are looking to replace our current 10 year old Mazda 2. We recently test drove a Hyundai Bayon at a main dealer. Ten months old with 2k on the clock. It looked a nice car, perfect for the wife. However we were very surprised about the noise of the engine. It was awful. Even the wife, who has no great interest in cars, said how rough it was. She said it sounded "old". It was a bit of a popping, grinding noise. It drove OK but i was constantly put off by the engine noise.
I understand it is a three cylinder engine. It was the 99bhp version. Is that how they normally sound? We found some paperwork in the car suggesting it hadn't been used much in the past six months. Could that have been a factor? Interesting to note the car had just been reduced by 1k. ... Read more
Do the modern three cylinder engines need a counterbalance shaft driven by a chain which may become a maintenance issue ?
If you search '1.2 puretech balance shaft' it appears to be driven by a cogwheel....
There are many YouTube videos showing normal cars fitted with winter tyres out performing 4x4s (fitted with summer tyres) in the ice and snow. My wife is a care worker and needs to get to work in any sort of weather. I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of changing tyres/wheels twice a year so wondered if 'All Season' tyres are better than normal ones when snow is on the ground. Do any members use them and which ones are the best? Present car is a Renault Clio E tech. Quite good in the snow but could be better. Read more

Has anyone on here got advice on headlight upgrades please?
Each winter reminds me how poor the headlights are on my wife’s A1 in comparison to mine and other cars I’ve driven. She came back from a late night trip yesterday and mentioned again how poor they seem. We’ve had the car from new in 2017 and plan to keep it so don’t mind spending a bit on it. ... Read more
Whilst i have lofty visions of a modern(ish) Toyota hybrid in due course once retired you lot keep putting me off with quotes like ''My Avensis was a horrible back breaking job''.

Dear all,
I would appreciate any advice on my situation. I'm very worried, so please, no sarcastic comments..
I have three main things to ask:
1. I received three NIPs, but since I was away from home due to work (I can prove my residence in a hotel 250 miles away) I only saw the letters after the 28 days period they offered me to respond. I was still able to login in two of the three NIPs - and responded taking the blame of driving - but not the 3rd one. I need to call on Monday but I'm worried about weather they'll let me name me as the driver or not. Any chance this will be escalated to court by default now or can I stop it and convince them to let me name the driver? They sent me a letter saying ''As no reply has been received, your case is now being put forward to our investigation department.''
2. The offenses are in a motorway (M1 Near Barlborough J29a-J30, 58mph over 50mph / M1 Motorway Jnc 12-13 Northbound Bedfordshire, 69mph over 50mph / M1 Northbound J16-J17, 66mph over 60mph). I have already taken the speed awareness course this year. What are my chances of getting offered the motorway awareness course to avoid 3 of the 9 points please?
3. The offenses are within an hour and a half. Any chance I can challenge those as part of one journey?
Thank you in advance for your time! Read more

List price for the car in the thread title is £38k. And while there is no saying that is what the OP is planning to pay (and of course it may be a lease), i can't help noticing on Autotrader that brand new RAV4's are available from just over £36k, with that 10 year warranty (subject to dealer servicing)
Sons just been lucky enough to be given the use of company vehicle, as per the title its a Ford range, top of the the range, 3.2 twin turbo auto.
While he said its nice to have b***** thing is doing around 15/20 mpg plus being a 9 gear auto it apparently never stops changing gear, the big shock to me was the price of the thing, 45k!! Read more
Are the problems on the 2020 Amarok and Ranger down to wet belts ?
Hi all
As the weather gets colder and wetter, I am finding the handling on my Vitara is getting ever more exciting. There are certain corners on my usual commute where I now know I will get some gentle understeer even at low speeds. This is usually where there is a nice chunky manhole cover or a very broken surface.... Read more
Thanks for the update, I'm sure you'll notice a difference.
Hello, I have owned two Skoda Fabias from new and both have been almost fault free until now. 2 months out of warranty( surprise, surprise), the passenger electric window decided to jam this morning and then defaulted to the bottom of the window. Luckily I have AA cover and it was dry, but the AA repairman stated faults with the window regulator can occur with Fabias and a mate at work said his infotainment systme had issues. A drive to the dealer and a nice £250 bill beckoned, but I wonder have other people had electrical issues with their Fabias. Touch wood, this shouldn't occur again, but it has damaged my confidence in Skodas as I was a big convert to the brand. Read more
The bill was paid on the day the car was fixed, but I am known to Telfords, having used them for 6 years, and going way back to the noughties, when they sold Hyundais as well. I suppose like any car, there will be something that breaks, just it is annoying when this happens. Mind you, I had an Austin Montego once that was always having problems, so things have definitely improved since the eighties.
