Hi folks, apologies if this has been covered but I've had great advice from here so I'm back with another question.
Purchased a car via PCP from Cinch (I know -- caveat emptor, but friends had a good experience with them). It's arriving Tuesday and I have a mechanic coming to inspect it Wednesday, so I can return it to Cinch if any issues. They have the 14 day window for this.... Read more
I've just taken my rocker cover off to inspect my hydraulic lifters, are they supposed to be hard or soft if you push down on them whilst fitted in the engine?
How did you guess?
If you go to all the trouble of getting them out, is it worth testing them or just replacing them with a new set?...
Now that the specific car for sale has (in all probability) been correctly identified including the seller; and the accusations of clocking and the reporting to Autotrader, to be safe we have hidden the thread. HJ cannot afford to get caught up in any dispute between Autotrader and the seller in what are accusations of an illegal act.
Hopefully most will understand we have to be very careful in this litigious age.... Read more

When I push the button on the end of lever to use the screen wash for the front window nothing happens. The wipers don`t move and no water comes out at all. I cannot hear the water pump working.

No the washers don`t work when I have the stalk in slow fast or intermittent positions.
I am hoping to get in contact with an auto electrician the week.
Hi
I'm looking for a new (used) car. Needs to tick several boxes, one of which is that I live in the mountains where the roads are poor quality with loads of rough patches, potholes, etc.... Read more
Further to all the above, the most important thing regarding wheel and tyre integrity is keeping the pressure at or slightly above the recommended psi. A mere 30psi allows for huge deformity of a tyre if it hits the sharp edge of a deep pothole at speed. If any lower it's the same effect as hitting the rim of the wheel with a sledgehammer, especially if it has a low profile tyre. I recently saw an unhappy man on the phone by a stranded Aston Martin (heavy lump of a V12 atop rubber banded alloys), presumably seeking help about a flat tyre on a distorted front wheel rim. (Curiously the recommended front pressure on a DB9 is apparently a mere 36psi - on my Audi W12, approx two Americans heavier, it is 42psi.)
Needed rather urgently, since I have to return to Taiwan in less than a week, so retail better than internyet, but latter might still be possible, and might be necessary to get some technical info.
Halfords my most convenient source following the sad demise of Pilrig Motors, but I don't have muc.h hope of getting any off-piste technical sense out of them.... Read more
If this is true, given the hugely convoluted hoops that modern cars are contorted through for tiny energy savings, I'd think the industry isn't gooing to be very keen on replacing ethyle with propylene glycol, despite the odd collateral dead cat (or bust bearing)
I thought most modern vehicles used OAT (Organic Acid Technology), although there is mention of others....

Thanks so much for the replies folks. Came to my senses and cancelled the order. PCP on a used car was madness! The search continues…
