I prefer to buy locally so that any post sale issues can be resolved. Well we bought our Vitara from a dealer 70 mins drive away. Doesn’t sound too far but if you had to leave the car and go back later in the day for it you’re looking at losing most of a day.

Anyway within a day of picking it up I found the DLRs weren’t working. Brakes also were intermittently grinding in reverse. Both PDI fails surely. They gave us a free courtesy car for the day and resolved the faults. But it was a tedious day of killing time,... Read more

Up to 7 years warranty on Suzuki cars if you have the servicing done by a Franchised Dealer!

A son bought a 4 year old Toyota Aygo - uses the main dealer for warranty cover up to 10 years More expensive than others but warranty on major components is worth a lot more than the odd £50 extra....

Insurance last year, £368.17, this year, £598 with LV. Apparently most people are getting these sorts of rises. Just what we need in a cost of living crisis. Read more

Overheads and the need to give staff a whopping pay rise on top of complex repairs and spare parts?

New to the forum. I'm looking to buy an MPV (ideally 5 seats) but want to make use of the room/height for a micro-camper (occasional use).

The Berlingo/Rifter/Combo-Life all have the same mechanical basis, but I wondered if anyone had an opinion on which was the better vehicle or does it come down to personal choice?... Read more

Hi, I’m looking for a used estate. Requirements below:

- Budget 15-20k
- Family car as we have 2 children
- Petrol as mainly driving short journeys
- Prefer automatic
- Preferably less than 4 years old and under 40k miles

Having done a bit of research, I narrowed it down to either a Škoda Octavia Estate, Škoda Superb Estate or Mazda 6 Estate. Currently got my eye on something like these:

www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202406261128806

Should I be avoiding any engines in particular?

It’d be great to get your thoughts and recommendations.

Thanks!

Most likely going to go with Mazda 6 Tourer unless someone gives me a good reason not to!

Maybe not exactly a good reason not to, but actually finding one itself is going be problematic. There are a grand total of five (2018 on) Mazda 6 Tourers nationwide on Autotrader with petrol engine and auto transmission!.

Re the Levorg, as someone who has previously owned a car with a CVT auto (which was absolutely superb), I am very familiar with the unjustified animosity shown towards this type of transmission. So my advice would be to try one yourself before writing it off. ...

This looks quite attractive - a bit of competition for the Tesla Model 3 maybe?

The Zoe seems quite well-regarded - my neighbours were very pleased with theirs - so this could be a useful addition to the range.... Read more

I have a beloved and very ancient VW Touran that's at the end of the road.

I don't have a Touran budget to spend, so I'm now looking at a used Dacia Duster, 1.3-tce petrol engine because I don't drive the miles for diesel. From my experience with the Touran, I'm keen to avoid some of the electronic bells and whistles that go with modern cars, and reports are that the second gen 2018+ Dusters are fairly reliable.... It's probably buyer's remorse now that their neighbours don't talk to them because they bought a Dacia.

Does anyone know if I’d be able to reinstate the Toyota warranty on a four year old car that has only been serviced once (at two years old) due to a very very low mileage please? Read more

'Apparently the direct injection 2.0l in the Corolla hybrid has had issues with injectors & misfiring.'

I've never come across that issue, but as injectors are covered under the warranty I wouldn't worry about it either!...

Hi,
I prefer to keep as much of my pricacy as possible but:

I hear that leter vehicles send DATA, such as location, speed etc back to the manufacturer.
How can I stop this and not break the vehicles normal operation?
Cheers, Camerart

With all the technology that currently exists the police only manage to prosecute a small percentage of cars without MOT or insurance. Are they really going to follow the antics of Mr or Mrs Average. Who actually cares ?.

Well, I suppose the answer to that may seem to be 'nobody'. But the fact remains that the transition from being an independent 'unconnected' person doing whatever (legal) he wants, to one almost under (at least theoretically) constant surveillance is significant. And at a time when rogue phone calls can be made persuading incautious people to divulge access to their bank accounts, the whole question can be seriously worrying.

Positive news for Ecoboom owners, Ford UK at last pulled their finger and decided to stand behind their Ecoboost engine.

I got rid of my puma last year, mine had a new engine at less than three years old ( just) it didn’t fail spectacularly just had a strange noise from the top end, the dealer said ford couldn’t tell them when the parts were available so they just fitted a brand new engine but they wouldn’t warranty it past the original warranty, shame really as I would have had another if they did, bought a Toyota instead.....
