Looks like someone's done a Volkswagen. Seems the other big Japanese manufacturers are at it too.
I’ve got my eye on a ten year old Auris and have heard that rust can be an issue. Is there any particular areas I should look for please? Given that it’s an auto petrol, are these as reliable as the manual version? Mileage is low and it looks in lovely nick. Read more
I find it hard to find a used car with a good manual gear box with my budget.
What a strange comment?...
Had our test drive in the new swift this morning, what a nice car! Still got a few bits of hard plastic inside but much improved over the last model, the interior was quite a nice place to sit, plenty of adjustment in the comfortable and supportive seat, controls all felt nicely weighted and the large infotainment screen, lifted from the latest S-Cross apparently, was a doddle to navigate.
The new 3 pot engine had plenty of go despite only having I think around 80 horse powers, you do get that off beat 3 cylinder "thrum" on pulling away but around town it was all but silent. Think Suzuki have really filled a gap in the market with this car, Dealer said they've sold 50 in the last 5 or 6 weeks so it's obviously proving popular.... Read more
Just realised - it’s Swift Sport that’s disappearing.Even more of a shame - it was the best one. Even so, given recent trends, I'd be surprised if the new standard Swift is sold here for more than 4 years, given recent trends with more and more small ICE / MHEV cars being deleted from sales lines, at least in European markets.
Unfortunately the few EVs that replace them are mostly well outside of the price range of those normally buying their ICE counterparts....
I've just got cut off from a speed awareness couse by slightly adjusting my screen therefore diconnecting the power. Silly me! I'd done all but 30 minutes of the course.
Has anyone knowledge of anything similar happening? I expect I'll have to pay again. I phoned the helpline number as soon as it happened, recieved recorded message asking me to email them which I've done. Now awaiting a reply. Read more
Thanks for all the responses.
Unfortunately I'd been logged out by then by the guy running the session. The good news is I can book another FOC.
With a recent ATS survey in mind. I was never asked.

Your quote from Swinton for the A8 is amazing John.
How on earth did they find a company to insure a high performance car like yours for such a small premium ?...
Interesting read that informs that:

Car manufacturers no doubt set gear change parameters to maximise fuel economy - any losses at low speeds as a TC box churns fluid is probably balanced by drivers with manual cars not optimising gear change points.
Yes, of course. When I said 'like for like' I assumed a reasonably experienced driver with some mechanical sympathy, who listens to the engine :-)
Hello,
it looks like our 2005 Toyota Rav 4 (D-4D) has (probably) come to the end of its life.... Read more
it's quite & smooth to drive & surprisingly economical. Over a combination of roads, the computer is flagging up 49, though these can be a little optimistic. l've also done 3 brim to brim tanks, which have worked out at 47, 45 & 48. With the official average being 44, that's not bad at all.
Those figures would surprise me, suggest you check your maths. We had a C-Max for 5 years from new, it was a late 2005 1.6 TDCi. Before we bought it we were concerned about the DPF so tried a 1.8 petrol and the 1.6 TDCi back to back, it was no contest. The drive of the diesel was loads better and the mpg as expected was better, on the same route on the same day the diesel showed about 45 mpg, the petrol was 10 mpg less (both about what we expected). A work colleague of the wife had a 1.6 petrol C-Max and hated it, no go and even less mpg than we got....

I was in a similar position a few years ago - I was told not to drive for at least 6 months due to a medical condition.
The DVLA were completely dilatory in reviewing my case, although fortunately they had not formally refused or revoked my licence....
Hi, any advice greatly appreciated
I bought the car last October (2023) It had a new Clutch and Dual Mass Flywheel fitted prior to me buying it in March 2023. The previous owner passed on the receipt for this to me. Recently I have been getting vibration through the clutch pedal and pedal occasionally sticks, a local garage took it for a drive and had a brief look and determined it would be the Dual Mass Flywheel at fault and I should contact the garage that fitted it. I did this but garage are not accepting any responsibility as it was fitted over 12 months ago even though the car has only done around 1000 miles since new clutch was fitted. Surely the flywheel should last longer than this and garage should accept some responsibility?
Many thanks for any advice Read more
I can't see how the garage that fitted the clutch would be responsible; you were lot their customer.
It sounds like whoever did your master cylinder didn't do it properly. I would go directly to them (or through Clickmechanic if you don't know who it was) and ask them to sort it. If you think that's a non starter, get a proper garage to fix it and learn not to use Clickmechanic again.
What I find strange is reports I read state testing goes beyond what the specs ask of the maker safety wise, and the complaints were that testing wasn't done to spec.
which if the tests are done slightly different but are stricter than spec which I read, it makes the cars safer than standard, which I gather is what the so called problem was....
