I was at a traffic light and it was red, and I didn't notice at first but there was an ambulance behind me with lights flashing but no siren. Now initially I thought I should push forwards past the red light to give room as there was no other space for the ambulance to move forwards. Then I hesitated and thought no I can't do that as I might cause an accident wry cars coming across. I moved off when green, moved to the side to give the ambulance room and it turned on the siren and sped away.
It did make think what is the law here and the right thing to do? I found this here - www.londonambulance.nhs.uk/about-us/what-we-do/adv...e... Read more
Just received a Notice of Intended Prosecution for speeding. 36 MPH in a 30 MPH zone, automated camera. I have no previous points history.

For clarity, I was responding to this (which I should have made clear):
"No previous points [my emphasis] and no recent Speed/Driver Awareness Courses should mean, assuming the alleged offence was not in Scotland, you'd be offered a course…"...
I have a Vauxhall astra life 07 1.8 my electrics seem to be dying in the car . I have had trouble with battery not charging for a few weeks but now the windows won't open , the headlights on one side the headlight is on but not the side light on the other side vice versa . I have checked the alternator it's charging the battery correctly .
Could it be a bad battery ? .... Read more
If it starts ok and the battery is being charged by the alternator, then I would think the battery is ok . I would check for any water ingress in the engine bay fuse box and also the rear one ( if it has one fitted )
I’ve been looking at a low mileage four year old car. When I type the reg no into KwikFit‘s site it’s telling me that it’s part of a fleet. In reality, how has this car been likely to have been used to date and what kind of life is it likely to have had?
MOT history is impeccable and ties back to the service records and claimed mileage history. All four tyres are the same make and condition is A1 both inside and out.... Read more
The vast majority of used cars under about 4 years old will be fleet cars - private owners buy few brand new cars and even then don't sell them on that quickly.
You need to examine the car closely for condition, particularly inside.
Curious to know what kind of CCTV camera or camera is this, on this street here, you'll see it on the lampost by the road going to the left.
It, or a previous one, has been there since at least 2008 (you can check the multiple times that the road has been photographed) and it’s been pointed in different directions.
I’d suggest it’s a camera for watching traffic flow.

What kind of crossing is this and do you have to stop if there is a pedestrian on the side closest to you, so if you are driving on the left and there's someone waiting to cross from the left? It's not a zebra crossing but if you look carefully there's a marked out small path across the island...? Read more
Never really thought about it before, but if these are to identify to the partially sighted that it's a place to cross the road, wouldn't it be a good idea to advertise the fact to drivers approaching?

Looking to buy a small ish crossover/smallish SUV. Sort of Fabia estate/ C3 aircross/Arona etc. That sort of sized car. We do low mileage but need a decent boot, the car will replace an old Civic and a BIG subaru forester. So we have to compramize. Fabia estate...a bit bland, 308/corsa meh. C3 a gamble. We do 3000 miles a year, local 25 miles at a time...

Looking to buy a small ish crossover/smallish SUV. Sort of Fabia estate/ C3 aircross/Arona etc.
Very happy with our Arona - it's a 1.5, but the 1.0 engine (I'd go for the 115ps) is supposed to be good. Feels roomy, decent boot, but only 4.14m long - a Focus is 4.38m.
Could anyone advise if camshaft/chain sprocket.locking tools are the same for c3 1.4 as c4 1.4 petrol?
Thanks.... Read more
Not now it won't...

If they wanted you to get out of the way they would have switched the sirens on. That they didn't was an indication you were not expected to move over the white line, which as you say, would have been an offence.
Different in Germany, by the way - here, you are expected to move forward enough to allow the emergency vehicle to enter the crossing.
