The Jazz GD1 headlights, 7-speed mode button on the steering wheel, and cluster gear numbers LCD are different in the earlier model compared to the later model, which has auto-closed wing mirrors. The earlier model has a throttle cable. Additionally, the later model was manufactured in China. I am curious to know if the earlier model was made in Japan. I am also wondering about the reliability of the engines in both models. In your opinion, which is the better option between the early and late Jazz models? My budget is a maximum of £4800. Read more
My husband purchased an 18 month old Kia from franchised main dealer. An ex-lease car looking at V5. Told FSH and remaining 7 year warranty. He expressed to salesman how important FSH and warranty were. Upon handover passed 2 pieces of paper with details of 2 services and service booklet with nothing in it. Told dealer the same day, we weren’t happy but he said all was good no problem it’s all as it should be. Looked into it further and paperwork looks false. The ‘garage’ named on paperwork appears to be a random company, recently incorporated, no website or VAT registration details. Have phoned the number on paperwork, it’s a mobile which is just switched off. Have contacted the dealer again to explain and asked to return the vehicle and get a full refund but nearly a week later and not getting anywhere. I know should have never gone through with purchase but he got quite quite agitated at handover process when they couldn’t find 2nd key. You trust a main dealer, please any advice would be gladly received. Read more
Well Well,
I saw the Dealer name mentioned before it was deleted and am not surprised. 6 years ago when I was changing cars I asked about a car they had in stock. I travelled by train from Colchester and the list of faults would have made a grown man weep., on a 13 month old car too. At leat the train fare was cheap.........
Really miss HJ s weekly column in the Saturday Telegraph and I still have a copy of his “ Motoring Answers”
But is anyone still in touch with him since he retired to Thailand where he was driving round in his Honda Fit ? Read more
He had ideas some of us disagreed with, ie left foot braking which he was keen on...
Hello all
Had a stop gap car for a few months but now in a better financial situation to get something a little bigger and newer. Been looking at Nissan Jukes as I've had a bit of a love affair since we hired one a few years ago. . Seen some decent used ones, around about a 12 plate and many seem to have anything between 90 and 130k on clock. ... Read more
I have tried Nissan Micra, Note and Juke. All have been good. The Juke,. I had as a courtesy car, had a1.2-litre turbocharged. It was sleepy car, until I pressed sport button. After that the the engine was lively. However, the biggest drawback, was the boot space which was on the small size (even compered to smaller cars). It was a good car to drive. The tech gadgets are better, as you move up on the grades. I liked it better then the VW Golf, I had on holiday.
You are will be paying for a premium, on a car that has a "SUV shape". The tyres cost more and everything else....
So I've spent a month with my new car and I have to say I LOVE IT. The car is relatively nippy, the automatic transmission very smooth and the build quality feels fantastic.
Having said that, I'm still dealing with comments like - 'what, you bought a French car? You're crazy.....' Am I simply in denial, or are reliability/quality issues still an issue with French cars. I've heard all the stories regarding the wet belt engine, etc but I plan to get it serviced by a Peugeot dealer yearly so I'm not overly worried about that. ... Read more
Everyone I know who owns a French car loves it.
We love our French car...well I say French it's built in Portugal and badged a Vauxhall!

Not sure why some (most) brands cant manage a soft ride, pity.
I think the blame for that can be placed in two areas....
Just received an email about renewing my car insurance from Direct Line. It's up from £360 to £700. Max NCD and no change in circumstances.
Will of course phone them up and shop around, but this is almost a 100% rise :-( Read more

Hello, i am about to buy a new SUV .I found 2 deals at about the same prices. Dacia Duster 1.0L 100HP 2WD lpg/petrol and Suzuki Vitara 1.4L 129HP mild hybrid 2WD . I want it for driving on the countryside ,trips and a bit offroad.Which one would you suggest? Read more
I agree that none of them are proper off-roaders. But it depends on the OP's budget and purposes. If it's for the city, then they aren't that bad.
I finally bought a new used car. The car has manufacturer tinted windows on the rear passenger windows and rear windows. I never thought about this on the test drive, as it during day light.
When when driving at night and checking my mirrors, visibility is n't great. All I can are two headlight. I can't make out the colour, make or model of car. This is useful, as I like to keep out of the way of faster cars when overtaking. ... Read more
These are manufacturer tints. I thought tints that dark were illegal.
They are, but only on the windscreen and front door windows. But think about it, if dark tinted glass on rear and rear side windows was illegal for safety reasons, you'd have to also ban vans...............
The largest motoring journal in Sweden does an annual winter and summer tyre test. This year’s summmer test tested a number of brands, and threw in an ’all season’ tyre (Michelin Cross Climate 2) for comparison.
Unfortunately, the Cross Climate came in last place, beaten by a Ling Long and a Senrtry (formerly Landsail), and it wasn’t because the chinese tyres put in a sterling performance either! Read more
Up to a point I'd agree one can drive within the ability of the tyres (or just with sufficient care and anticipation to minimise risk).
But please watch the all-season tyre test linked above to see just how much worse the 'Fronway' tyre was than Michelin/Pirelli/Conti/Goodyear. Wet handling and wet braking in particular, which are probably the most important measures for an all-season tyre.
Exactly - to me the whole point of All-Season tyres in the UK is to cope with the cold, wet conditions which prevail here....
The in-laws had a 2007 Jazz CVT (so mk1 facelift) and it was excellent apart from one known fault..
The boot lining was saturated when it rained.
The cause was perished sealing under the roof rails, allowing roof gutter water to enter the chassis and work its way backwards into the rear hatch where it seeps out into the boot floor.
It’s a really common thing and precipitates rust.
Thankfully the fix is super easy. Remove the roof rails, apply a new sealant and replace. Good for 10 years once done.
