Daughters Fiat 500 was stolen and her renewal is due in 2 weeks time, can she still shop around for a new policy at expiry or does she still have to use the same insurer?
It's unlikely to be recovered (even so she doesn't want it back after it being ragged around by 4 youths) but I understand there's a 30 day waiting time by which time it'll have elapsed.... Read more
So what is the point in protecting a NCB?
It would normally go down when you make a claim - by protecting it, it stays the same
Van cut out whilst driving. After rest started again, but not anymore .Can't hear pump when I listen at open deisel cap. Also disconnected feed pipe to fuel filter and turned ignition, no fuel coming through. You need to be concentrating on 2 vital parameters to get this engine started . Is there an engine speed sensor signal and what is your fuel pressure. The beep test is not going to fix this .

Maybe one of these might be useful
Hi guys
Brand new here and at my wits end. New to all this so please be kind. Bought a 91 Mk1 Golf back in April last year. Car of my dreams. Within 2 weeks of owning, car had to go to a garage to have £700 worth of repairs but the trader covered this cost. Since September, roof on the convertible has been leaking like a sieve. Went back to the trader who said nothing to do with them any more. Took the car off road, kept it covered in the garden. Interior was sodden, condensation and mould everywhere. So gutted by it. Eventually saved up enough money to get a replacement roof (£1900). Took the car to the guy to fit the roof, and he said the roof that was on the car is not the original roof, it has been replaced by a roof that doesn't fit. He put the roof down and showed me that the roof was hanging on to the frame by duct tape and cable ties. The inner pad was covered in mould and was sodden. He showed me the back window was held in place by staples and masking tape. The roof was never going to be watertight ever, due to the inferior materials used and the fact the roof had no proper fixings.
I bought the car from a classic car dealer, not from some bloke down a dark alleyway, so I thought the proper checks would have been carried out. I have gone back to him and explained that the man who fitted the new roof had to carry out an additional £400 worth of repairs (including getting a fabricator in to weld a new frame for the roof as the one I had was riddled with rust due to all the water just sitting on the inner pad). He said the only reason I needed a new roof was due to the existing roof not being the right roof and not fitted correctly at all. The car dealer is saying he is having nothing to do with it. He didn't fit the roof, I know that, but surely as a classic car dealer, there are checks he should do before selling a car on? The roof fitter showed me all the issues and said these would have been obvious to a dealer who knew what they were doing.... Read more
Just a quick update. After many discussions and a few legal letters, the garage that I bought the car off has agreed to pay half of the new roof for me. What a result! I am pleased with that and have accepted their offer.
I think you have done fairly well there. When you get the car back, I am sure you will look it over more thoroughly than the first time ? One worry for me would be that a car which has had a leaky roof for years may have rust lurking where the sun don't shine. I remember looking at a 205 soft-top many years ago which was dreadful in places - but I suppose some owners don't look under rear seats and such, and annual MoT tests may not either.
Hi
After a garage overhaul, is it illegal for the garage not to road test a customer's car?... Read more
I would think after all that work , the garage would have carried out a road test to make sure everything was in order. It’s not a legal requirement. Must be an old car .
If it is also a MOT centre they could test it on their rolling road ?
Hi all. Happy owner of a new (to me) 2004 MK1 Volvo convertible. Electric roof works fine at present. However, I've read many a story of expensive roof repairs on these cars. So far, with the roof down, I have sprayed the metal parts with silicon grease, and used a rubber care item on the exposed rubber strips. Any suggestions for other ways of keeping the roof working for years to come would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Alfie. Read more
I have a bmw e46 cabrio which is over 20 years old . It’s not used very often so I have a half protective cover which fits over the roof and windows. With this in place , I leave the windows open very slightly to maintain ventilation. Keep all the pivot points and mechanism lubricated . Only operate the roof when dry .
Apparently depicted Milton Keynes as a slum last night (4/3/24). I don't live there, but local radio's just devoted an hour to discussing it. A number of incensed residents.
I've never watched it, but will now because the story line's to be continued tonight - so it's increased viewing numbers! Read more
Are you saying it's misery watching Kat Slater and Sharon whatever her surname is this week?
I will say that Caffy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) is fairing well at 68. Must have something to do with A1 slip road activity. (Motoring link)....
I hadn't heard of this before now although via a search engine found other forces are doing it. Good on them if it catches more i****s who think the police aren't watchiing.

Excellent idea. I constantly see people texting/checking FB or whatever, and making handheld calls in cars that more likely than not are bluetooth-equipped.

<< ... they've proved so staggeringly incompetent over the past 14 years one won't be holding their breath. >>
I think you are being unjustly critical, GB. It's very easy for anyone to look incompetent in a situation they can do very little to change significantly. It follows that whoever gets elected will look incompetent, partly because they all promise many things which the electorate are daft enough to hope for....
