I have an old non-smart phone with a large SIM card, which will not fit into a modern model. If I buy a new smart phone (with pay as you go) can I transfer my number and contacts to the nano card in the new phone?

Note also that, at least for the moment, Asda Mobile PAYG is 'technically' still compatible with old style 2G 'candy bar' phones like my old Nokia 3410, which like your other half and the OP also has a full sized SIM car holder.

As for real world use for that phone, it didn't work so well, with some calls getting dropped including an emergency call to Plod and some from my parents' 2G (slightly newer) flip phone. I now use my 'middle' 3G smart phone (mini SIM), where I the SIM car did have the cut-outs....

Hi, I have a VW Golf 2007 estate, diesel.

A local mobile mechanic has said he’ll service it and it’s cheaper if I buy the parts as he adds money on when he gets them.

Without wanting to appear totally clueless, what exactly do I need to buy?

How much oil?
Which filters?
Do I need glow plugs?

I live rural and don’t work at home. The other garages aren’t an option at the minute. Read more

It sounds like you don't fully understand what parts / servicing is required. It's so easy to get the wrong parts on many cars these days. I wouldn't source the parts as the risk is on you - leave it to the mechanic. ...

Hi folks, apologies if this has been covered but I've had great advice from here so I'm back with another question.

Purchased a car via PCP from Cinch (I know -- caveat emptor, but friends had a good experience with them). It's arriving Tuesday and I have a mechanic coming to inspect it Wednesday, so I can return it to Cinch if any issues. They have the 14 day window for this.... Read more

Thanks so much for the replies folks. Came to my senses and cancelled the order. PCP on a used car was madness! The search continues…

I've just taken my rocker cover off to inspect my hydraulic lifters, are they supposed to be hard or soft if you push down on them whilst fitted in the engine?

How did you guess?

If you go to all the trouble of getting them out, is it worth testing them or just replacing them with a new set?...

Further to all the above, the most important thing regarding wheel and tyre integrity is keeping the pressure at or slightly above the recommended psi. A mere 30psi allows for huge deformity of a tyre if it hits the sharp edge of a deep pothole at speed. If any lower it's the same effect as hitting the rim of the wheel with a sledgehammer, especially if it has a low profile tyre. I recently saw an unhappy man on the phone by a stranded Aston Martin (heavy lump of a V12 atop rubber banded alloys), presumably seeking help about a flat tyre on a distorted front wheel rim. (Curiously the recommended front pressure on a DB9 is apparently a mere 36psi - on my Audi W12, approx two Americans heavier, it is 42psi.)

Hello,i want to ask the owners of ecoboost 1.0,in few months from now,i'm going to change my wet belt, the manufacturer uses belt from Dayco, but they suggest me Contintental or SKF as alternative choices, more stronger than Dayco's.My car has near 95.000km,in few months will catch 10 years,as FORD suggests for belt change.

Each to their own I guess . My friend does wet belts on every thing, including the Puretech engine. Never needed to remove the motor .
