It's not difficult .Remove the 2 plastic bungs at the rear of the tailgate ,behind the lamp. There should be 2 10mm nuts holding the lamp to the gate . Undo these and pull the lamp forward.

The full MOT test handbook is online. It’s very easy to check any requirements on it.

Driver console is completely blank, ignition switch does not start the car.
Headlights and cabin light do not turn on. Seems to be no power at all.
Central locking not working with remote key fob.
Car battery is 18 months old, reading 12.56 volts.
Disconnecting and then reconnecting the battery console lights up and shows *all* warning lights on, and sets the clock at 12:00. Warning lights disappear after starting up, car drives OK. But after shutting down the engine, the console is blank once again.

I was stranded at the supermarket the other day, but managed to redisplay the console by opening and closing the doors a few times. I thought it might be a central locking issue. But I have no luck with this technique since then...

I’m not getting it . OP says they disappear after starting, so what’s the issue?

Unfortunately, incorrect info was given by Dan Powell to a question “ What is the maximum weight we can tow?

I have a 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser. Its weight is 2.2 tonnes and the listed towing weight is 3.0 tonnes. We tow a horse box.

Half of our friends say the all up weight of the trailer cannot exceed the weight of the vehicle. Others say it is the maximum towing weight that matters.

We want to upgrade to an Equi-Trek box that is nearly 3 tonnes loaded

Who is correct?”... Read more

I suspect that a typical caravan tyre is also of lower spec than that fitted to the tow car.

The tyres on my car trailer were heavy duty Pirelli ones that had a load capacity well in excess of the load I expected to carry. They were not expensive either

Does anyone have product recommendations for seat belt adjustors for children who are above the legal height requirement for a booster seat but are of lean built due to which some sort of adjustment can help the belt fit snugly and away from the neck. Read more

I use one of these in my non-adjustable seat belt height car -

I don’t spend the entire trip repeatedly pulling the belt off my neck.

Hi everyone! :)

I have the BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAK LM005 winter tyres and it appears I've hit something, which has cut out a bit of the rubber of the side wall. The depth of the cut is about 1-2mm and overall size of the cut-out piece, when u look at it from the side, is 20x30mm.... Read more

I wouldn't worry. The pressure in a car tyre is far lower than in a much thinner and flimsier bicycle tyre. (Mine recommend 80psi) If you really want to check its conformity and continence, pump it up to the maximum allowed (it'll probably say on the sidewall somewhere - usually circa 50psi) and go for a short drive.

With respect, John F, I seem to remember that the tension in the walls of a cylinder or tube is dependent not only on the pressure but also by the internal diameter....

We’ve had three…and a half. All originally company cars (aside from the half!)

1. 2001 GT TDI PD 115. Only had it for 6 months and around 12,000 miles, as the company folded and the car went back. First car I had with six gears. Seemed very novel cruising at 70 mph with the engine ticking over at 2,000 rpm.

2. 2011 2.0 TDI Match Bluemotion Tech. Ran this as a company car for around nine months, moved to another job but bought the car, as we needed a vehicle and it was decent value. Still got it. Initially it clocked up around 15,000 miles a year, but this has now dropped to around 6,000. Currently on 107,000 and has been very reliable. Not really suited to the shorter journeys that it generally does now, but it gets a longer run every couple of weeks to keep the DPF sweet. Only seen the DPF warning light once and that was during the first lockdown when it was doing no decent runs. Only non routine part that’s been needed was an EGR cooler.

3. 2016 GTD Estate. Ran this for four years and around 70,000 miles. Really practical for the family and dog. Never missed a beat, but you could really tell whenever it was doing a DPF regen due to a very lumpy tickover. Quick, reasonably refined and decent MPG.

…and then the half! 2001 Beetle 2.0. My Mrs opted out of her car scheme at work, took the cash allowance and bought the Beetle. We ran this for ten years and 120,000 miles. Not very practical, but comfortable enough in the front. Huge thirst for oil. Piston rings replaced under warranty but made no difference. Aside from that, pretty reliable; but slow, gutless, thirsty and extremely low geared.
