What is the use of digital compass inside cars?

Hi all
I currently have an MG ZS but will be looking to move away from this in 2024. I'm looking for a second hand car, relatively low mileage (under 30K), comfortable, fairly nippy, pretty big boot space and suitable for a small family. My budget is around £18k.... Read more
Estimated mileage is 12-14,000 miles per year. Combination of ten minute journeys to work/nursery/shops, with longer journeys to clients (50-150 miles) a couple of times a week.
Borderline choice between petrol and diesel then. Although a diesel should use less fuel, that fuel usually costs more, so the saving is not great. Probably the complexity of modern diesels might be enough to tip the balance towards petrol - especially if you go near a ULEZ ?...
Hello Backroomers, I'm not sure if it's been covered (nothng in the search), but be warned that Targo Tyres (targo-tyres.co.uk) might appear to be a scam. I ordered four tyres in early December, nothing arrived. Despite many emails I've heard nothing. The phone number (of course) is unobtainable. Do let me kow if you'e had dealings with this company in the past. The website is one of the best, most comprehensive sites I've seen (for tyres), so I assume they were (or are) a legitimate company whose website has been taken over?
Interested to hear from anyone with info on them. My credit card company are being less than sympathetic as I made the transaction willingly online, they are more likely to refund if the transaction was made by fraudulently obtaining my card detail, which isn't the case.... Read more

Happy New Year! At this time of year thoughts turn to summer holidays, and one idea my wife and I have for a few weeks away in the summer, probably early September, is driving the North Coast 500 in our Mini convertible. We’ve seen a few packages offered by various firms, which seem reasonable value, but does anyone have any experience or ideas about the best way to do this trip? Read more
just be aware that the ferry servce to several of the islands has been having serious issues in the last year or so with unreliable vessels. Also, several of the piers are/have been having work done one them.
Which Islands, other than admittedly South Uist, have had really serious problems? Which ports are having work done? ...
Hi All
The menu shows replace foot brakes in 2000 miles I was just wondering how accurate it is. I have a quote from a local garage at £105 and dealer wants £226 lol ... Read more
Probably got at least 4k before they really need replacement. You pays your money and take your choice., good quality pads from an Indy garage shouldn’t be a problem.
My parking bay has a bit of slope as the overall housing development was made by cut and fill. Does parking a car on slightly inclined ground overnight has any long term impact? I hope this should not be an issue, England and the rest of Europe has a lot of areas like that so I believe cars sold here are designed with that consideration. Read more
Owners of automatics were recommended to apply the handbrake before engaging park to avoid stressing the pawl, I believe.
I've stupidly reversed into a large plastic barrel and smashed the nearside light cluster on the rear of my 2019 (69) Vauxhall Combo Life. Bulbs still work, just the smoky plastic casing that's shattered.

I had the timing and aux belt done last year. I took the car in for service just under 12 moths later and the aux belt is perishing and the crankshaft seal is leaking.
Is the seal replaced when the belts are done?
Is it common for the aux belt to fail within 12 months?... Read more
Can I post pics here or links to pics?

First car we encountered this in was our 2015 Seat Leon 1.2 TSi
The compass was a gimmick but the car was a cracker!
