Because of the vulnerability of the cat converter on this version of this popular model LV are refusing to insure these cars .

And it's not just the cat that'll need replacing. The thieves won't be bothered about collateral damage, so new exhaust, sensor and loom likely to be needed. An acquaintance had a bill of £1,700 for his.

Sounds familiar!!

This must be naive but again just started owning a car. How does one remove the morning condensation formed outside the windows in the morning? I use demist button for the windshield and rear glass and the wiper button helps too but what to do for the windows. Should I keep a microfibre cloth in the car and need to clean the windows in good old fashioned way before setting off? Read more

For the side windows, I have a wide silicone squeegee - the wider, the better! This way, I can clean them in only two passes.

And then you need a very narrow one for the external mirrors .......

Ceratinly one of the greatest hits of all time. Imagine if that was a car/motorcylist instead of a lorry.

Hi, we have been having issues with our discovery sport 17plate. We bought it in 2020 and within 2months the turbo changer needed changing. This was resolved and since it was in warranty we didn’t have to pay.

Forward 3years and our car goes into limp mode after multiple calls to our local hatfields jaguar Land Rover dealership (not where we purchased the car) for about 6-8 weeks and got no answer or reply. My husband drives the car there to have it checked, after a lot of back and forth over days they finally check the car and inform us that the timing chains need replacing, they are not completely happy with the compression in the engine so we would likely have to change that too with the turbo charger resulting in a £9300 cost as we are no longer in warranty. We were given the option that we could change just the timing chains at a cost of £3500, but if in fact the engine should have to be changed it would now cost us the £9300 on top of just changing the timing chain so in total this would have been £12,800. We chose do change everything rather than the additional cost as it seemed we would face due to their advice about the compression in the engine. We were advised parts order and repairs would be somewhere between 3-3.5weeks after payment was made and we were given a date of 4th December. During the whole time we are in a hire car payed for by ourselves and on the 3rd of December we received a call telling us our parts have not arrived. Long story short we now get the car back December 28th after the want to do “thorough checks”. Because of the delays hatfields filed a claim with jaguar Land Rover for compensation towards our hire car and we received around 60-70% of the costs back.

So after paying £9300 for the repairs, a day after getting the car back the engine light came back on. They sent an engineer to the house to check it over, he said it was the DPF clogged and he done what was needed now the light is off.

The next day driving the car the light was back on again. They are now saying we need to replace the DPF system and EGL cooler costing £2500 saying “This unfortunately seems to be defective as a consequence of the failed engine which has now been replaced.”.

Articles I’ve found online seem to show that DPF could cause engine failure but I’m not seeing this the other way round.

Should this not have been picked up on prior to the engine repair?

I won’t even go into the customer service side of things as we are highly disappointed with hatfields Liverpool Read more

Unfortunately, the ingenium engine fitted to your vehicle has proved to be one of the most unreliable motors on the market . Timing chains, egr faults and dpf issues are all too common. It’s unlikely the dpf faults have been caused by the engine failure. Even if you get all these items fixed , there’s no guarantee that nothing else will go wrong.

I recently bought a car which was first registered in January 2024 but it was manufactured in Sep 2023. Basically came of the production in Sep. When I checked DVLA, it is also showing year of manufacture as 2024. Is this normal for cars purchased in January? Any problems if HPI checks are run down the line. Read more

As someone whose car was built in one year, registered in another here's my take.

Just walked my dog past the ex Land Rover, ex Cazoo showroom here in Newport Pagnell. In the last month or so it has changed to a Fisker dealership and seems to have around 17 of their Ocean suv models for sale, not sure if they make any other models?

They are a good looking medium sized EV, although medium sized these days seems huge and there was no shortage of people looking around in there. Just googled and the price is £36K upwards, which again these days is seen as fairly reasonable. Anyone tried one?... Read more

They haven’t gone belly up just yet, but it doesn’t look like it’ll be too long. Existing technical and service support in the UK has been reduced to minimal levels. You can still buy a brand new Ocean, at massively reduced prices, on the understanding there may not be any warranty or support if things do go south.

I understand Fisker has massively reduced its workforce in the US, too.

Such a shame, as I loved the car when I test drove it and would definitely have had one on order had things not gone so wrong for them.

Hi,

I'm completely clueless when it comes to cars. Just go for which I like the look of. So I'm after some advice. I'm looking to trade my Audi A1 63 plate in for a newer car. Not brand new, between 2/5 years old. ... Read more

We've got a low mileage 2019 T4 XC40. It's generally a good car and I would sum it up as worthy but dull. My biggest complaint, apart from poor fuel consumption, and rather odd steering feel, is the complete lack of help from the dealers, or even Volvo UK, when something goes wrong. Ours has a broken tailgate handle; it's known design fault and there's a Service Action in North America, but here you have no chance! In fact one dealer wants £168 to diagnose it before they'll even work on it...

I've been chatting to a couple of used car dealers in the Durham area and some of them recon that used car prices will fall later this year around August to October, possible with the new car supply situation easing, would this be correct any ideas if this would be correct? Read more

Hi,

Any suggestions for reliable steering wheel locks for automatic cars?

I bought a twin bar lock from Amazon, It came in its own box but the box was not seal packed. Is it normal that items like these do not come in a sealed packaging just like some hardware items come loose and not sealed. It’s my first time buying one so making an assumption that security devices like these should come in a sealed box otherwise how does a customer know that the keys have not copied over or the item has not been tampered with. I don't think there's a lot more to add to Andrew's line of of logic and reasoning. The previous reply includes two "suppose"s and one "possibly" and I fear may not be definitive advice when looking to approach the matter of enhanced security of one's wheels.

When you've actually had a car stolen from you you tend to look at these things with a degree more seriousness....

A colleague had pointed out to them their car was leaving pools of liquid under it when parked. They admitted they were having to top-up the coolant regularly, so they tried to book it into the main dealer, who stated there'd be a £180 charge to plug it into diagnostics!

They took it to a local quick-fit type place, who looked under the bonnet, told them it was the water pump and gave them a price to replace it.... Read more

My OBD2 code reader cost £45 ten years ago.

Mine cost £15. More than paid for itself the couple of times it's been used (crosses fingers and throws salt over shoulder).
