When I "retired from being a Mod" I was awaiting cataract surgery and other items on my agenda.
So nearly 4 months on, What a difference, still need specs for reading but vision 20/20 after seeing my lovely consultant and his team today. Well worth the temporary inconvenience.... Read more
Just shopping round for breakdown cover now, i notice most of them include a clause that you're not covered within 1 mile of your home address.... what's that all about and why are people ok with that?
I don't want to pay extra for home start, because i'm not bothered about home start. If it literally breaks down at home, that's fine i can fix that no problem.
But if i break down just under a mile or even half a mile from home.... that's quite a long way. There's not many people be wanting to push a car 0.5 miles back home.
Why is that not included as standard?
Seems a bit of a scam to me.

Did you even read my previous posts?
I DON'T want home start, but I DO want to be covered if I break down a mile AWAY from home.
Not covering me if i breakdown at the bottom of the hill, of which i have no way of getting the car back again, because i didn't pay extra for homestart, even though i'm not at home, that's the scam.
Yes, I read them and it's still not a scam. You exactly what you pay for....
Morning all
This week marks the 6th anniversary of the purchase of our lovely 2013 Jazz. After several false starts, some of them aired on this very discussion forum, its time for a change. Our car's increasingly lumpy ride ( its had new front suspension arms and front tyres recently, but still hits the potholes hard) is giving my wife's back problems some serious gyp, so its time to look for something softer. And bigger, too. ... Read more
The Mazda CX3 cropped up on another thread recently and one of them would certainly be within budget. Mazda do (refreshingly) tend to shy away from very low profile tyres and I believe the ride is pretty decent anyway, so maybe worth a look. Not particularly spacious compared to a Jazz though (neither is the Juke), especially re rear seat.
While not a trendy SUV/Crossover, it may also be worth looking at the Kia Venga and sister car, the Hyundai ix20. Barely any longer than a Jazz, but very spacious due to its height. ...
Because of the vulnerability of the cat converter on this version of this popular model LV are refusing to insure these cars .
But which cars will be next ? Read more
And it's not just the cat that'll need replacing. The thieves won't be bothered about collateral damage, so new exhaust, sensor and loom likely to be needed. An acquaintance had a bill of £1,700 for his.
Sounds familiar!!
This must be naive but again just started owning a car. How does one remove the morning condensation formed outside the windows in the morning? I use demist button for the windshield and rear glass and the wiper button helps too but what to do for the windows. Should I keep a microfibre cloth in the car and need to clean the windows in good old fashioned way before setting off? Read more
For the side windows, I have a wide silicone squeegee - the wider, the better! This way, I can clean them in only two passes.
And then you need a very narrow one for the external mirrors .......
Ceratinly one of the greatest hits of all time. Imagine if that was a car/motorcylist instead of a lorry.
The radio commentary was spot on!

All this time have been looking for info on the wrong engine I actually have a dw8-b wjy engine thanks to Andy for clarification regards Will
Hi, we have been having issues with our discovery sport 17plate. We bought it in 2020 and within 2months the turbo changer needed changing. This was resolved and since it was in warranty we didn’t have to pay.
Forward 3years and our car goes into limp mode after multiple calls to our local hatfields jaguar Land Rover dealership (not where we purchased the car) for about 6-8 weeks and got no answer or reply. My husband drives the car there to have it checked, after a lot of back and forth over days they finally check the car and inform us that the timing chains need replacing, they are not completely happy with the compression in the engine so we would likely have to change that too with the turbo charger resulting in a £9300 cost as we are no longer in warranty. We were given the option that we could change just the timing chains at a cost of £3500, but if in fact the engine should have to be changed it would now cost us the £9300 on top of just changing the timing chain so in total this would have been £12,800. We chose do change everything rather than the additional cost as it seemed we would face due to their advice about the compression in the engine. We were advised parts order and repairs would be somewhere between 3-3.5weeks after payment was made and we were given a date of 4th December. During the whole time we are in a hire car payed for by ourselves and on the 3rd of December we received a call telling us our parts have not arrived. Long story short we now get the car back December 28th after the want to do “thorough checks”. Because of the delays hatfields filed a claim with jaguar Land Rover for compensation towards our hire car and we received around 60-70% of the costs back.
So after paying £9300 for the repairs, a day after getting the car back the engine light came back on. They sent an engineer to the house to check it over, he said it was the DPF clogged and he done what was needed now the light is off.
The next day driving the car the light was back on again. They are now saying we need to replace the DPF system and EGL cooler costing £2500 saying “This unfortunately seems to be defective as a consequence of the failed engine which has now been replaced.”.
Articles I’ve found online seem to show that DPF could cause engine failure but I’m not seeing this the other way round.
Should this not have been picked up on prior to the engine repair?
I won’t even go into the customer service side of things as we are highly disappointed with hatfields Liverpool Read more
Unfortunately, the ingenium engine fitted to your vehicle has proved to be one of the most unreliable motors on the market . Timing chains, egr faults and dpf issues are all too common. It’s unlikely the dpf faults have been caused by the engine failure. Even if you get all these items fixed , there’s no guarantee that nothing else will go wrong.
I recently bought a car which was first registered in January 2024 but it was manufactured in Sep 2023. Basically came of the production in Sep. When I checked DVLA, it is also showing year of manufacture as 2024. Is this normal for cars purchased in January? Any problems if HPI checks are run down the line. Read more
As someone whose car was built in one year, registered in another here's my take.
In June 2020 at the end of lockdown we bought a new Mini Cooper S which was registered on a private plate from new....
I bought a three years old Kia Rio from an Hyundai garage. A few months later i visited a Kia garage and showed them my service book. I was told that the warranty was void because the second service had been done at 22k miles instead of 20k.
Has anybody ever been caught like that ? I think it’s somehow unfair. Read more
The annual MoT test does the checks performed at a ’service’.
Indeed, and it only costs a fraction of the £250 a garage charges for their ’inspection’ and an oil change. The MOT inspection is also way more thorough, and for only £50 or so, and you can actually see them doing it, although you dont get the inspection sheet with a hundred ticks on it.

I saw it testing last week at Millbrook.
Slight double take experienced when I saw the word ‘Dacia’ on it.
