April 2023
The AA have stated that they were called to 1900 pot hole incidents a DAY during March. The effects of this last winter on our roads are everywhere and particularly dangerous on our motorways and other fast roads. The holes are often difficult to see and avoid especially in the dark. In some cases whole strips of the top surface of the roads are missing. Besides the cars needing roadside assistance because of damage there must be plenty of other cars running with damage tyres and suspensions. Weeks of delays in repairing our roads only causes more damage to motorists cars. and just another symptom of our declining country. Read more
I have got a 2012 1.2 tdi Seat Ibiza and have gone to great lengths to make it loud. As of this afternoon it now has a hornet exhaust back box, dpf delete and decat so it is virtually straight through. Yet, it still remains very quiet. What the hell can I do to make it loud? Don’t mind doing some redneck/dodgy stuff to get there I just want a nicer sound Read more

Skoda develops a car grille that can tell pedestrians when to safely cross a road (msn.com)
Having read this sounds OK in theory but I cannot see how stationary car can account for other road users such as bikes scooters and other cars. Well we are still in April I suppose! Read more
It is a concept and would need formal agreement if it were adopted. I don't think it has any chance. The grill might as well say to the pedestrian ""are you feeling lucky""!
I watch a few YouTube videos on cars.
I happy to seen a well known YouTuber, who scorned someone had got a manual in an high end luxury car.
However, another YouTube enthusiast M539, did n't like automatic on his BMW, and preferred manual on country windy roads. ... Read more
Give me an EV with one pedal operation so I don’t need to go near the brake pedal, adaptive cruise control that will bring the car to a halt and set off again and I’m happy.
Bring on full autonomy (not that I think we’ll see it in the next decade).

When you purchase a car, is that car's registration immediately linked to your name and address?
Basically, I think I drove in a bus lane by accident when it was in operation on the same week I got the car. However, the dealership had sent off the V5C form to officially register me I think and then I received it about 7-10 days later. So my question is if I did mess up at any point after I purchased would the council (or Tfl) know where to send me the letter (fine)?... Read more
That's pretty good if that's your first fine. I only just started driving so it's inevitable that I am going to make a few mistakes early on. ...

Best way out is to buy a universal radio/ cd /usb or equivalent and fit it to the existing recess . You’ll need a mount plate and adapter wiring kit .
I swapped back to summer wheels yesterday. Nice weather for a couple of hours in the drive wuth a bit of excercise thrown in. On one of the rear tyres there is a horizontal split about halfway up the sidewall. The tyre has bulged noticeably at this point. It was still holding pressure and I wouldn't have spotted it unless I'd taken the wheel off. It was perfectly fine when fiited in early December, and it also passed the MOT later in December, so has happened in the roughly 15 weeks since then. Presumably it was a pothole, of which there are a lot round here. At least I have a few months to get a replacement tyre, a winter runflat. I don't think is is possible/ easy to claim the cost of a new tyre from the council, especially as I cannot say which of the numerous local and not to local potholes caused the damage. Despite doing my best to avoid them, it is impossible to miss them all. Not a happy Easter bunny! Read more
Good info - thank you. They are getting worse near here too, because of quick so called repairs. I went on the council's website which says that whether your car is damaged by a pothole or not they are very unlikely to pay compensation. They say that they only have to show that they have inspected the road within the previous 2 years and they avoid paying out. They claim in the vast majority of cases they can show these inspections have happened.
2 yearly inspections would be fine if their repairs lasted more than 2 years, but many do not. It makes a mockery of the rules they are hiding behind....
Looking for ideas on how to lesson the chances of tyre damage if bumping up on to and (to a lessor degree) off of the kerb (which is about 4")?
This is because it is highly unlikely that I am going to be able to get a car as narrow or narrower than our Motability Suzuki Ignis when it gets replaced, within the next few months (depending on availability and delivery times). Our street is narrow with cars parked both sides and there really isn't the room. ... Read more
Tyres are 195/55 x 15, not as tall as I'd like but not too bad,
Anything over 100mm high these days is actually quite 'high' for newer cars with rims under 17in. My dad's 'new (2020) Fiesta has 195/55 R16 tyres (better than the 195/50 R15 on the previous car) but still well below the sidewall height of my Mazda3s 195/65 R15. I can feel the difference over larger bumps and on really poor surfaces, especially with my car being 17yo....

Can you please give me a second opinion?
I know it’s an old car and I will have to put some money extra, but will be too expensive to keep it working? Read more
Makes you comfortable. It’s actually the convenience module that controls locking, indicators , hazards and various other functions. On the early A4 /Passat models it was situated under the carpet in the passenger front foot well . As the car filled up with water from blocked plenum drains, the unit would get soaked and the circuit board would get ruined . Fortunately on later models , it was relocated behind the dash .
That's why they are 'really busy' !
