Came upon this brilliant clip today. Onboard lap (practice presumably) of Le Mans in a GT40 with none other than Stirling Moss providing the commentary, describing the speeds, cornering lines etc. The actual lap footage (from 1968 BTW) starts about 1:55 if you don't want to watch the whole thing, turn the volume up and enjoy! I went to Le Mans in 1984, the year that Jaguar made their official return with Bob Tullius’ glorious XJR-5’s.
A long time ago, but I do remember an overnight coach from Manchester, then a 24 hour race, then an overnight coach back. The sheer sleep deprivation put me off going back initially, but every June I remember that I must go back one day. But with a bit more comfort this time…

Hello! I have a PD130 engine with 130k miles on it and it seems it's at the age where things need to be fixed. Over the last few months I have noticed excess smoke from the exhaust and a large drop in MPG, especially so when doing anything other than tickling the accelerator. Oddly, when on cruise control at 70 on the motorway, the mpg will sometimes drop into the late 20's, then randomly back into the early 50's. There is also white smoke on tickover from the exhaust and a strong smell of diesel. I've been led to beleive this is most likely worn injectors but what are people's thoughts on this?

Secondly, it has begun using coolant more than it should. It uses a tank over a period of 400 - 500 miles, but there doesn't seem to be any oil in the water or vice versa, and no overheating issues. It's hard to tell if there is any steam from the exhaust due to possible injector fault.... Read more

I dose with 150 ml of 2 stroke oil every tank fill . Supposed to lubricate the moving parts.

Interesting - the person who bought my previous 2003 pd100 Superb also started adding two stroke oil. With the pd he said it made it more refined but thinking about it surely it'd help lubricate the electro/ mechanical unit injector pumps of the pd. It can't have done any harm as the engine was still going strong at nearly 300k miles - sadly bad structural rust and a failing DMF meant the end of the road at the last MOT.

I am a fairly new driver in my late 30s and in the last month or so I've had my first car I've been driving almost every day. I really enjoy the experience and it helps I have a half decent car to drive. I waited several years to learn as I didn't bother to learn living in London nearly my entire life so I guess this is catching up for all that lost time.

However despite this, since I started I have developed what I would call new driver paranoia. Every week, I keep having this thought that my mistakes are being captured and watched on camera and I have had a few sloppy moments. I then go on Google maps and examine the area and try and see if there are any cameras or cctv in that specific area!... Read more

I remember hearing about a friend (I didn't witness it) chewing through his pipe stem while driving in Europe ....

What happened to the bowl? Did it drop in his lap and give him more than the traffic to worry about?

I have had my licence revoked from 14/4/23 due to a head injury sustained in December 22

The DVLA have not given a date I can reapply for my licence but the time the doctor told me not to drive was 6mths from date of discharge.... Read more

Six months from discharge is, to my mind, a start point; by then you might be OK.

I'd be asking for an up to date opinion from the Healthcare Professionals responsible for ongoing treatment. In other words what will they say to DVLA, if their opinion is asked for, when you ask for a replacement license.

....., I guess an ev would get you through

Yes for now. But you get caught by the Congestion zone. But my concern is when (not if) TFL have another black hole in the finances. How easy it would be to say just 'Simplify the three zones into one' The cameras are all going to be in place. Then us EV drivers will be caught. So oppose the zones now.

I initially accepted a deposit of £100 from a dealer for my Porsche and signed a purchase invoice for an agreed amount, but the next day I received a higher offer from a private buyer and accepted it, selling the car to him.

I informed the dealer as soon as I sold my car and returned their deposit, but they are now threatening legal action because they claim I violated the contract.

I'm aware that I made a mistake, but I had the deposit less than a day. Am I not able to change my mind when selling a car? Read more

Ford have announced today that they’ve been given permission to offer hands free motorway driving in their Mustang.
Instead of the current situation whereby the car with a self steer function gets you to put your hands back on the wheel after a few seconds, now it’ll use existing driver awareness cameras to monitor the driver and permit hands off on motorways.
So as long as it sees you paying attention it’ll self steer and adapt speed via adaptive cruise control.
I don’t think it’s a massive leap in technology, but the first time it’s been government permitted on UK roads. Read more

It is unlikely self driving cars will ever be able to cope with single track country roads with mud, passing spaces and lack of verges.. and no road markings. .not forgetting the 4x4s which are as wide as the road and driven by drivers as thick as the surrounding trees,

If not, what is the point?...
