We used some German autobahns last year including a couple of unrestricted sections. There were indeed cars travelling well in excess of 100mph, I would guess typically at around 120-130, with a smaller number going significantly faster. Generally, behaviour was predictable and I wouldn't say I was terrified, but I was certainly conscious of the potential for a very severe accident..

I remember driving on an autobahn somewhere in NW Germany many years ago, being overtaken at high speed by (I think) an Astra which suffered a sudden blowout about 100 yards ahead. Luckily the driver controlled the car without difficulty.

EV’s don’t achieve the published, and mandated, WLTP results. But neither do petrols or diesels. Non-story, I’d imagine.

I agree that the figures for ICE vehicles are also unrealistically optimistic (though less than these EV tests would suggest) - and having recently purchased a property with a charging point already installed I would potentially be interested

... however the difference between ICE & EV range that still prevents me from exploring a change is that (for the next few years!) filling stations are much more widely available than fast charging points, and even with a fast charger I would need to schedule at least 30 minutes on a longer journey to recharge rather than <5 minutes to fill up with petrol (and unlike electricity I can carry a fuel can with another 5l of fuel in the boot).

The initial plan is to do this with EVs however I expect they will try it with all vehicles if they can. The aim is to collect data (no doubt to sell to advertisers) and to sell subscriptions. Another attempt to get a steady stream of cash from the users similar to BMW heated seats subscription. No doubt the rest of the manufacturers will watch to see how this goes and whether they should try it too. Read more

Renault have Waze available, like Google Maps it’s integrated with the battery and power consumption. As more apps become available via Play Store, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay will become redundant in a car powered via Google.

Plenty of iPhone users won't be too happy about it all going Google though. I think it's not a good thing for GM to be doing so will be interesting to see if they stick with it or not.
