Hi,
I got an email from the .gov.uk site saying they have signed me up on a direct debit to pay car tax. They say they will take the first installment on 18th April 2023.... Read more
Are you short of MOT or Insurance? On my fleet for some reason the first month direct debit is always later that month - I pay monthly with auto renewal. It will not renew if MOT isn't valid for the month the tax is due or if you are not insured.
My son's car's MOT is due on the same month as his tax renewal and he get's messages beforehand if MOT is performed late in the previous month....
Hi all,
Recently sent our Combo dash cluster off for reconditioning as the mileage reading was intermittently failing, so LED screen circuit on the blink. Installed repaired cluster last week and initially all OK. A couple of days later, noticed that the centre console/radio control panel was illuminated when the ignition was off/key out. When radio is switched on manually or ignition is on/engine running, lights go out. Experimented today, and also found when ignition on first stage, switching the headlights on also switches the radio on!... Read more
Thanks, will try to battery disconnect tomorrow.
Injectors were all replaced when recon engine fitted last year. Hopefully will hear back from our local auto leccie on Monday, but appreciate your advice in meantime....

April the 1st answer, and I have found out where it is. On the rear of
the engine a right b——d to get to.
I clipped/grazed wrong mirror of a parked car. I don't think there was anyone in it at the time but did hear a beep which may have been the car behind me.
???????Didn't stop immediately but went back to see if there was any damage. Didn't see any that I could think of and the wrong mirror was still pushed in and didn't see the owner of the car.
Should I still report it to 101? Read more
Hmmm so you obviously saw it happen and I'm guessing the van driver didn't stop.
I haven't heard anything yet but will give it a few more weeks. But to ask, as I did the report I'm not going to get penalised, correct?
Hello.
Could someone give their views on approximate costs for the following repairs / diagnostic tests at a garage, to include ballpark fitting costs please?
I'm just trying to get a rough idea at the moment. Any of the areas below you can help with, I'd really appreciate. Thanks.
The car is a 2010 MK III Grand Scenic.
* Very loud cracking doors - Door strap checks? and likely replacements of parts to 4 doors.
* Oil and filter change.
* Replacement 'hands free' key card.
* Fog and / or water test to establish water ingress issues evidenced in two doors, beneath the underfloor passenger storage box (and possibly the dash area)
* Brake pedal cover replacement.
* Investigations to oil leak seen in engine bay.
* Misalignment investigation to one door and repair.
* Rear light cluster replacement.
* New battery.
* Alarm investigations - re random triggering.
* Attention to faded front light lens - may be 'cleanable' or may need replacement. Read more
Thanks. My post isn't needed now though :-(I've been waiting on an independent engineers report, which has now been emailed to me. It summarises at it's end:
"The vehicle was sold with defects that render the vehicle unfit for purpose, and it should not have passed an MOT in its current state....
Been having some starting issues with the Forester for a while, seemed like fuel starvation, changed the fuel pump, spark plugs were due so changed them too, it was cold starting troubles only, once started it would fire up instantly until the next cold start, car running perfectly otherwise.
As some of you know i start work early, a 3.15am start from my house is quite normal so it has to be reliable.... Read more

So it would appear, haven't seen any availability in the UK, would be interesting if anyone does know where.

No real difficulty getting the piston out, apart from the howling grit_laden gale that always seems to blow up when I have an engine open.
No broken rings or obvious sharps, though some rather gritty feeling coke around the top ring.
If a ring had been bust I would have tried to source a replacement if possible and honed the cylinder. May not bother with honing now and just clean it up a bit
