Looking to spend around 3K on one of these. There are lots of Notes for sale in the North East as they were built in Sunderland just up the road from here. I have memories of Japanese car reliability from the 1980s. Does this still apply to Nissan now they are connected with Renault? Retired now and don't do many miles but the1.5 diesel looks attractive with 60mpg and £30 a year road tax. Also considering a Jazz as these look a nice car. Is there much to choose between the 1.2 and 1.4 engines? What do others think about the reliability of both makes? Read more
Looking on Autotrader, surprised at how many pre 2007 cars there are for sale, some of them nearly 2 grand. It would appear that with the general hike in used prices, it's now worth repairing older vehicles. No more £500 cheapies.
Even before the prices rises of the last couple of years there was still many, many pre 2007 cars at £2k or more....

I bought a MAF Sensor from Ebay and replaced the old one....
Did anyone watch Fifth Gear Recharge. I showed a NIO battery station swop the EV battery automatically in 5 minutes. The station is in Norway which by all accounts is streets ahead of the UK converting to EV by 2025. China has these stations all over the country.
I do not know how the NIO system works or whether you buy the car with a battery or merely rent the batteries probably the latter? These stations look expensive and must have charging systems for the battery swops. It did not say whether you can charge these batteries yourself otherwise the system would seem pretty limited if you have to take your car to have the battery changed all the time? I wonder what ratio of batteries to cars you would need? It seems that such a system would only be suitable for large urban areas. It appears to me that there needs to be more standardisation of charging systems as EV grows.... Read more
The battery lease model was tried by Renault due to the high initial cost of batteries - discontinued a few years ago. Leasing may attract new car buyers by reducing the initial EV cost to below that of an ICE.
A battery pack costing (say) £5000 may need to be recovered over (say) 4 years - £1250pa (£104pm). As the battery supplier covers admin and defaulters, financing costs, technical risk etc - perhaps they make a profit by year 6 or 7....
Got a Mazda 5, 2013 with 43,000 miles. Boot lock/catch had water damage before Christmas, £350 to get it sorted. Now wing mirror, passenger side won’t close, makes a irritating motoring noise which I will have to get fixed. I’m sure the exhaust will need changing soon. Is it worth keeping the car as I’m spending quite a lot recently. Also it’s an ageing car, just finished paying it off.
Also got two kids, aged 7 and 8. Trade in I can get between £5500-£6000. Obviously won’t be able to afford a car outright. Next car doesn’t have to be a 7 seater. Read more
Will keep my car, it's very reliable.
Passenger side, wing mirror won’t close, and makes a irritating noise when engine is running. The driver side is ok. I suspect due to frost/water damage could be the problem. Already had to fix the boot, as inside back wiper seal split, water damage. Had to get new catch, wiring damaged due to the water. £350 to get that fixed just before Christmas. Read more
ILooking to buy a new Fuel Filter but when I find a maker whose price seems reasonable (eg. RIDEX) they offer three different filters which they say are all suitable for my Skoda.
But the internal diameters of the filters, as listed below are totally different. How can all of them be the correct filter for my engine? Isn't the internal diameter important?... Read more

They don't do plug repairs any more, there's a patch on the inside. Plugs are now deemed a temporary repair although I don't think they are actually illegal. A question of liability perhaps.
They use a mushroom plug which is both a plug and a patch inserted from inside the tyre and vulcanised with the appropriate adhesive. They come in several sizes....
Eh Tony - sounds Mafioso somehow. :-)...
