I believe PSA make the ford 2.0 diesel but do they make the 1.5 diesel .
Also from what I've seen in the past the 2.0 seemed to be quite reliable is this the same for the 1.5 Read more
I recently bought a 62 plate partner van. The previous owner was a council.
It’s limited to 62mph.
The council it came from are adamant the speed limiter is set in the ecu and there is no aftermarket limiter in place. (Various bits of the dash were stripped and nothing found either)
I had my local garage remove the limiter in the diagnostics but it still won’t go over 62.
Has he missed something obvious?
Is there any reason this would be a dealer only thing?
It’s been suggested to remap the whole ecu but this is expensive, especially if it doesn’t work! Read more
Is the Partner Combi not classed as a car derived van and can do 70mph on dual carriageways and 60mph on single? Like your VW Caddy?
No, the only exemptions are very small vans like the Corsa and Fiesta, along with some double cab pickups (although I have no idea how this is determined?)....
On the couple of cars that I own/lease (a 13 year old Vauxhall Astra with 75,000 miles and a new Hyundai Tucson with 2,000 miles) I've noticed that when I'm driving along a straight road, I have to hold the steering wheel perhaps a couple of degrees to the right to keep the car straight. It's more pronounced on fast A roads and motorways, although sometimes noticeable on slower roads too.
It's a bit more obvious on the Astra than the Tucson. The wheel alignment has be done at various points on the Astra, and is never really much out, and if I let go off the wheel while driving along, both cars will keep going mostly straight with the wheel tilted slightly to the right, there's not a dramatic pull to the left.... So for peace of mind I'm going to have the wheel alignment checked. I spoke to the local Kwik Fit, who have always been good, and they said they wouldn't be able to do it because of the ADAS potentially needing calibrating and it would have to go back to the dealer.
There are other places locally that seem to ADAS recalibration but, with this being a new (lease) car, would it have to go back to Hyundai? Or can independent places do the job to manufacturer standard?
Just come back from a week's cruise to Spain and France and I was impressed with the way they have separate cycle and pedestrian lanes off the main roads. No making the roads narrower by painting a few lines but every one had their own dedicated lanes. I guess they have so much more space than us anyway being much larger countries so it's much easier.
You do get carbon framed folding bikes (both standard and electric), weight for standard ones can vary by more than you'd think from around 10kg to as little as 6.9kg for a Hummingbird, very expensive though!. Lightest Brompton is titanium, just under 7.5kg and also very expensive
The reason Brompton don't make a carbon bike and went with titanium, is that it is hardto tell if a carbon frame is damaged or not. According to what I learved a carbon bike is strong on the road, however it has weak spots. When a steel bike is damage, it is apparent,. but not so with a carbon bike. Inspections are not easy....

John, if it happened to be a really big win (say £50m) would nothing tempt you?

That sounds like main dealer price. What about a good Indy garage ?
Any ideas about the most efficient way to approach this problem please? I have checked the fuse (and changed it just in case) - no joy. I have connected a test lamp (working) to the plug-in connector at the horn itself, and again got no joy. The Haynes manual describes method for removing airbag to access the horn switches, and I thought I could do that next, but is there something more obvious I could check first - many thanks :-) Read more
Quick update on this: surprisingly, the problem did not get worse. In fact after a couple of months driving around the horn now works pretty well with both right and left buttons. However, it does seem to be important to fully depress the button in just the right place. Maybe because the car had stood unused for so long before I bought it, all the contacts had corroded a bit. Anyway, it's great when something actually goes well for a change :-)
Golf Mk6 2.0 Diesel BlueMotion Timing Belt 2012. Changed June '17 with water pump, pulleys etc on 78,760 miles. Currently on 130k. Mainly long distance motorway work.

The 1.6 Zetec engine cambelt set-up in the Mk1 Ford Focus was designed to last the life of the car.
Question is - what does Ford reckon to be the life of a Focus ? I guess the statistical average might be 12-15 years. So what should an owner do if he plans to keep the car longer ? John-F has told us what he does, but maybe he is not typical.
Here's a good illustration from recent personal experience of the current state of the used car market.
We got a trade in price for the Auris against the MG HS we ordered last November, of £7K . We were happy enough with this. Because of delays in delivery of the MG, we only picked it up last week, more than 6 months later and 10K additional miles on the clock of the Auris (it's been a busy year!). Out of interest we had a look to see what WBAC and the like would offer for the Auris now instead of trading it in to the MG dealer (note 6 months older and 10K miles leggier). Peter Vardy/Carz/GoodbyeCar gave an online quote of £8250 and eventually after inspection, we settled on £7900 i.e. £900 more than I was offered for the car last year. Needless to say I bit their hand off!... Read more

I notice that some garages encourage an MOT and a service at the same time-this might have been helpful here in identifying and correcting the hose fault or at the very least resulted in a call to ask if they should proceed?
As I keep recounting, my Pug 207SW with the 1.6 HDi engine has given me no trouble since I bought it at Christmas 2008. It had done 13K in 7 months as a rental or lease car, so was probably not run in on short trips. I reduced the scheduled 12K services to 10K and later 8K. The car is much less busy now and is only at about 85K - I suspect I was lucky that it was just too early for it to get a DPF.
