With all the fiasco with pronouns lately, why don't we just introduce a gender neutral pronoun?

Some languages always used such pronouns, i.e. not differentiating between he and she.... Read more

I have to admit I'm not really up to speed with the increasingly common use of he/him/she/her, it seems to have really become popular in the last couple of years at work with people putting it at the bottom of their emails by their name. I'm firmly of the view that people can put what they feel comfortable with, it has no impact on me.

However, I think we've probably extracted all we can from this subject so time to put it to bed.

My local police have said cars with start buttons need to put thier keys in a faraday bag. I thought only keyless was susceptible. Is that right Read more

I think you are correct, whereas the police officer in the original post is a bit confused between 'keyless entry' and 'keyless starting'.

Didn't early Minis have a button to press to start, albeit after using a key to switch on the ignition?

On here in the "latest news" MPs to investigate Self driving cars. A customer has a Golf with ACC, he is complaining that if he sets the cruise control to 50 and then the limit goes to 60 the car speeds up to the new speed limit. Apparently the cars cameras recognise the 60 sign or the GPS tells the car to speed up. I never new this function as I thought it was mainly to keep you a safe distance from the car in front. Just because a road is marked 60 you may not want to travel at this pace or the car/driver might not be capable of such a speed on some roads... OK once you are aware how it works fine but one VW customer did not!

New cars are getting over complicated Today the EU announced the introduction of the new speed limiter on all new cars again governed by GPS. Again you will be able to override the system by "pressing harder on the pedal but it seems a very dangerous concept to me. I do not think the UK can say no to this too complicated for the makers Read more

Yes, there is usually an option to have the car set the cruise speed to the limit the camera has seen,

It will take a very clever car to correctly interpret some of the road signs in this part of the world, as quite a few are disappearing into foliage while councils save money. I sometimes wonder whether that might be a valid defence in cases of speeding ?

Possibly.being a little dense here - why exclude MPVs? I was thinking big, unfashionable and relatively thirsty would be ideal in this situation. I was going to suggest Ford Galaxy/VW Sharan/Seat Alhambra.

An old Jeep Cherokee could be a fun option (big and basic)......
