While on the road, I often see third-generation Focuses with a 12" strip of door seal sticking out from the bottom of the driver's door or the front passenger side door, like the door is chewing a giant liquorice bootlace.

Has anyone else noticed this? Anyone know why the door seal on this model is particularly prone to getting snagged and detached? Read more

The Audi and BMW belonged to neighbours so I am a bit hazy on details. From memory they were an 2009 Audi A3 and a BMW 1 from about 2016 and I put the tape on about 5 years ago. In each case a bit of trim was sticking out but I can’t recall how they were originally fixed.
There might well have been a metal strip but I know there was enough of an area to get a contact. I just cleaned the surfaces and stuck them down with the tape and they lasted a few years until sold on.

The first road test of this car was at the end of last year, and the car has been available to order since March. However there doesn’t seem to be any of these cars in Citroen showrooms.

Anyone seen one in the UK? Read more

You still see to be sure that those were the actual words used on Citroens newsletter, do you know that this was the case?.

Perhaps the OP could check the info, until then you have to assume what was posted was correct.

It’s just put on the EML and the ‘Check Anti-Pollution System’ message.
Over the past three weeks the car has done close on 1500 miles, the majority on motorways, so I’m confident the DPF should be clear. I’m thinking it’s a sensor issue, but without a code reader I’ve no way of narrowing down the search.
Anyone any ideas?

I suspect the answer is no...

Assuming I keep hold of my Mazda2 with the juddering clutch (see previous discussion), I'm tempted to venture into the world of remapping. My 2 is the 90ps version - there's also a 75 and 115, all with 1.5 engines. It's reasonably nippy for a car in this category, with a 0-62 of 9.4 (if you give it some revs - no turbo).... Read more

Not talking about a noisy dustbin sized exhaust much loved by the younger generation, I am referring to the twin pipes on the MX5 which will be a properly designed system.

I did some research into exhaust sytems back in the '60s and determined they knew what they were doing decades earlier (look at the diameter of Austin 7 and similar pre war cars)....

I managed to upset my good neighbour!

Her trusty Toyota Aygo needed too much welding work to pass the MOT (the joys of living facing the sea) she sold it to the garage for scrap at 17 years of age and a nice 172000 miles.

Inevitably the search for a new car began with a slightly bigger boot and I commented why not get a new Sandero with a warranty and no MOT to worry bout for 3 years.
So new cars became the focus,

Of she went to the local Dacia dealer, tried it, liked it, sat down to order,

The price with a non white colour and a spare wheel, £14490!!!!

I had to apologise, my recent memory had them advertised from £10,495.

No longer the bargain car it set out to be.

I did a bit of digging -

Dacia now only sell the Sandero in top spec Comfort (despite the middle spec being the most popular according to the dealer)
Dacia now only sell the Sandero with the turbo charged engine not the naturally aspiring 1.0
A non white colour is a £595 option
A spare wheel has doubled in price to £300

What a shame the Sandero is no longer a bargain. I understand their are other factors at play such as inflation, shortages, energy costs for transport, etc but I can’t help feel this will cost them some buys as they inevitably move into the crowded middle market.

One thing I still don’t understand, if semi conductor issues still remain why not sell a bargain basement basic version of the vehicles?

Anyways she travelled to the nearest MG dealer on Friday and has ordered a MG3 excite in the black colour option she wanted brand new in stock for £12495 and they are throwing in a space saver,
The warranty was the big selling point as was the immediate availability of the car.
She did comment test driving the MG3 reminded her of her old Corolla, I’m not surprised with that 1.5 naturally aspiring engine and 5 speed gear box.

I haven’t seen any rusty ones, don’t see many rusty cars these days unless they are 15 years old + or it’s a Ford Transit van

I also have not seen lots of rusty ones. Dacia's are very popular where I live, which also happens to be a Scottish town on the coast. So if there was a problem with Dacia's rusting, I think i'd notice!.

There was a problem with with rust under the boot on early Dacia's (2012-2013ish), but AFAIK that was dealt with within a year two....

...after letting the car idle for ten minutes. So basically I've been looking into getting air out of my coolant system. Followed online advice and allowed the car to idle on a upward incline with the expansion cap off . After ten minutes the coolant starts boiling and bubbling over quite ferociously. To the point where it was spitting out of the tank. The odd thing is my coolant was slightly below minimum before trying this. Is this to be expected? I stopped just in case.

Thanks in advance for the responses. ... Read more

Hi all. I bought a car from what seemed to be a reputable uk dealer. It was a remote purchase, so covered by distance selling regulations. Basically I decided not to keep the car and we agreed for me to return it in exchange for a refund. It’s now been seven weeks since they had it back, and still no refund. Every time I speak to them, they just say that they currently don’t have the money in the bank, but not to worry I will get it. I’m getting really frustrated, and both the AA and Citizens advice say I’ve done the right thing and agree with my case. I have evidence of them agreeing to a refund, but they claim cash flow issues.

my question is what is the best route now? Solicitors and courts are all really expensive and slow – as we are talking around 25K – so is there another way to put pressure on them through legal means? They have plenty of stock, so it’s not like they don’t have options. Thanks in advance Read more

Did you pay part by credit card? If you paid a minimum of £100 even just as the deposit, you may have an equal claim against the card company under the "section 75" rules. If you have proof of return and reciept from the dealer then worth considering this route.

Hi, looking for a new car.. An Estate type but petrol due to the low mileage i do daily (so the petrol takes away alot of the selection).. i like the look of the Kia Proceed budget up tp around £18k.
The Kia is only a 1.4L engine, is this engine big enough for the size of car? and also would the car be okay to tow small camping tralier now & again?

Any other suggestions / advice on car model.

Does it, with ancilliaries, completely fill the engine compartment, so that all routine maintenance tasks require it to be removed?

If the answer is YES, then it meets current standards, and so must be considered big enough....

Car

Wife's car about 3months ago had replacement plugs and coil pack following misfiring codes coming up during a downpour. Last week engine light came on again with same codes, garage has turned codes off as no misfire present.

We have asked as to what could of caused the misfire codes to return and they have advised that cylinder 1 seems to be slightly weak but no sign of misfire so next stage is to have top half engine rebuild.... Read more

Thank you for all the replies and suggestions, so far giving the car a good hard run seems to have improved things apart from the tappets.

Whilst we have started our search by trying out some cars for size, at present we feel a bit more relax about the car but looking to replace by end of year....

The London bendy Buses were diesel powered, but I think the fires originated in the hydraulic suspension which kept the front and back sections level. However, once a fire had taken hold there was then a few hundred litres of diesel which made sure of a fairly significant fire.
