Hi, my son was getting quotes to renew his car insurance, the price was really high and one company wouldn’t insure it at all, because, apparently his car was written off in December 2021? He’s had the car for 3 years and its never been in an accident. On further investigation, he discovered it was now marked as a Cat S. His insurance company know nothing about it, and confirmed there had been no claims against the vehicle. Does anyone know how to resolve this, and get the Cat S removed? Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you. Read more
I need some advice desperately. I have done something stupid and didn't send the car registration certificate off after buying a car years ago because the previous keeper hadn't signed their section and I couldn't get hold of them after. I honestly didn't fully realise the importance of this as I thought the car being taxed and insured was fine. I've been using the new keepers slip to tax the car and never really thought it was an issue until looking into it again. From what I've read, at the very minimum, I face a fine. Should I just suck up the consequences and send the registration certificate now? Read more
Fill in a V62. Say you bought the car, got the green slip but the log book never arrived so you're not sure if the previous keeper ever posted it, or it may be lost in the post
Hi, I was originally after a 2nd car but decided just getting 1 main car which would be a suv. I dont want anything pre 2011, max 90k, tempted by auto, descent mpg (40mpg plus). Im ideally after relliability and a suv that holds value. £9/£10k would be the budget with a temptation to go to 11k. My options were crv(2.2 d), sportage or ix35(1.7), tucson, vitara or sx4 scross(petrols). Any Advice would be appreciated.

I’ve got an inspector coming to do an inspection on my old motorhome which was involved in a non-injury RTA.
The vehicle is driveable as far as I know , but I’ve noticed tne front end collision at a low speed has bent the hinge on one side of the bonnet , meaning, at the moment the bonnet can’t be opened.
When tney do tne inspection, are they likely to just say they can’t open tne bonnet and write it off, or will they open it.
If so am I entitled to ask for a breakdown of the repair costs
I have fully comprehensive insurance.
Are there any questions I should ask? I’d like to keep the vehicle if possible, any advice please. Read more
To did only just see those replies, and apologised for posting another thread , and have already said at the time I reported it so can’t not claim
Hi guys
Looking for car recommendations (petrol or hybrid). I want to buy a family hatch. Priorities are MPG, reliability, nice looking and something that's at least a bit fun to drive My budget is up to 20k give or take. Any thoughts? Read more
My choice would be the 1.5 Skoda Octavia manual or DSG auto. The Octavia in various forms has been around for yonks and drives well with good economy and plenty of space for a family
I wouldn't recommend buying a secondhand car with a dual clutch 'auto' box, because you cannot guarantee the driving pattern of previous owners, which (e.g. urban driving in stop-start traffic, which will wear the clutch pack, and more so on the dry clutch versions) would be a significant reliability worry, especially if the prospective owner were to use it for similar urban driving in heavy traffic on a regular basis.
I made a fortune flogging used 820’s in the 90’s. An easy sale when strategically parked next to a similarly aged and priced Cavalier or Mondeo. The Mk II’s were actually pretty well sorted and rarely went wrong beyond the occasional electric window switch or shonky central locking. I liked the look and the 2.0 petrol went very well, really the V6’s were pretty unnecessary. At low to moderate speeds they weren’t much quicker. The 2.0 Turbo Vitesse was a good GT. No sports car as it was softly sprung but as a gutsy exec it was a good buy.
Agree....my Vitesse wasn't troublesome at all apart from a couple of air-con issues (pipes)..I even towed with it for while but then sold it for a Shogun to do the job..but the Vitesse hardly noticed the caravan on the back tbh (was only a small-ish 2 berth).
It was great to drive and certainly well able to get down the road very quickly.!...
I am not sure this answer is correct.

On the topic of insurance write-offs, I presume that if Fire and Rescue indulge in their popular pastime of cutting the roof off even slightly damaged cars, the driver (with whiplash or whatever) has "write-off" on his record though the initial bump could have been repairable?

Hi all,
Fresh off my success repairing my chipped windscreen, I want to repair a horrible scratch down the side of my car from rubbing against a side-of-road barrier (unfortunately, against every panel on that side...). There are also some dents (which I'm going to separately remove as best I can, I have a paintless dent repair kit that uses a glue gun and a rubber hammer). It's an old car and I doin't want to pay a body shop several hundred pounds (or more!) for a job that's probably not much better than I can do myself hence my decision to go it alone.... Read more
I plan to follow the ChrisFix youtube video on repairing deep & minor scratches. It looks pretty simple
it always does look simple until you do it, don`t forget most of those body repair people do apprenticeship/ training courses to get where they are(the good ones I mean) ...
Here is the list.

Hi, thank you, his current insurance company has confirmed that he has not had a claim on the car, in 2021,he also had to pay for an HPI check, and he has now sent an email to MIAFTR, stating there has been a mistake. Hopefully they will investigate further and rectify the error.
I will keep you updated. Many thanks for all your suggestions.
