Warning

I was just looking at a Nissan leaf, as a possible electric car. (Just picked an electric car at random).

Does the range reduce over time?. I noticed one for sale which is about 1/3 charged up, but has a range of 19 mile. So would I be right in thinking the full change when charge up would be around 60 miles?. The new range is is 124miles (24kw) model.... Read more

Yes it is. The Toyota proace city is identical to the PSA Berlingo,Rifter, etc and now the Vauxhall Combo and Life. The PSA Spacetourer and Traveller are the same vehicle as the Proace and Verso plus now the Vauxhall Vivaro. All share the same mechanical platform, engines etc. Ford's Tourneo 1.5 diesel is also the same engine!

Metropolis.

I used to recommend a variety of different car brands when asked, but nowadays its really quite boring as I find myself defaulting to Toyota, and simply finding the model in the Toyota range that matches their requirements. They are not usually best in class but it seems a safer bet so a recommendation doesnt come back to bite me.

Knowledge, its really boring! Read more

Toyota, Mazda and Honda with some provisos. For example, avoid the diesels other than Honda’s 1.6 DTEC and avoid automated manuals like Toyotas MMT and I don’t recommend the latest gen Honda Civic or CRV 1.0/1.5 due to engine issues or ridiculously expensive timing belt costs. I typically stick to a limited range of genuine Japanese makes and models. Not Nissan for example.

I wonder if anyone can help, I hope this does not sound too complicated!

I bought a car from a friend and because I paid by instalments, instead of becoming the owner, the car was signed over to me as registered keeper - and after I finished paying we never got around to signing the car fully over to me. I now wish to get rid of the car, but he has subsequently moved, and I have lost contact with him.... Read more

DVLA have a record of the keeper, not the owner. Often the keeper and owner are the same person, but sometimes they are not.

This goes on everywhere. My local supermarket and DIY shops car parks are full of so-called 'disabled' people when it's patently obvious they aren't.

I know some will say some people have hidden disabilities, but a good number I've seen (still a minority) are definitely NOT disabled.

For one, a disabled person should not be driving or being a passenger in a low-slung hypercar, or be lugging heavy builder's materials in a white transit.

TBH, if some in more 'ordinary' (and a Porsche Cayenne ain't ordinary) car drivers have 'hidden disabilities' they sure hide them well. Read more

With the cost of petrol and diesel nowdays and seems to be going up and up, thank goodness that both of my cars run on LPG at around 80p a litre. I've got no idea why more people don't consider lpg Read more

Here in rural Cambridgeshire I would be paying £2 a litre for diesel if I wasn't using veggie oil instead.

The DVLA are an absolute disgrace. They think that they dont have to answer to anybody. Covid has been a perfect excuse to cover all their inadequacies for the last three years and are still using it as an excuse despite the fact that most companies that have to earn a living have long since returned to work. My new licence five years ago took 6 months to process, and that was way before the pandemic.Anything that is done by computer happens instantly at the DVLA. Its purely work done by the staff that is way behind. Why they havent been dragged over the coals by the government is a very poor reflection on this governments ability to manage anything. Driving into Southampton from the M3 the dual carriageway into Southampton had all the speed signs whitened out! Is this a prank or have the powers that be done it? We had different views on the limit...30..there are lamp posts.... used to be 40....nah nah.. it was 50....Some were doing 30 and another must have been doing 70. Read more

Another example of dumbing down speeds all in the pursuit of a holy grail - if only they asked the motorists first! Break out the red flags!! (when cars were first used some bright park suggested a flagman must walk in front waving a red flag to warn others of the oncoming vehicle)

Or it just flows better with the lower limit - roads often do.

Hi, not hugely knowledgeable about cars but looking to soon buy a new family SUV and hoping for some advice... My situation is that I've just paid off our Toyota CH-R which is a 19 plate and should have decent trade in value. Looking to switch it for similar but slightly bigger & better equipped car - something like a Q5, X3, Toureg, XC40 etc. I'd like to do what we did with the CH-R, which was to buy it 'nearly new' (up to a year and a half old sounds about right) and pay the bulk of it off up front. Given how similar the cars I'm interested in are, I'd love any advice on where people feel the best value would be found currently? Specifically, I'm wondering if any of these models are slightly less fashionable and thus depreciate a little quicker (giving me more value at point of purchase - it'll probably be our family car for a good few years). Other than that, any opinions or advice on purchasing most appreciated! As soon as you walk into a showroom and mention that you're not interested in PCP, you can visibly see a switch turn off in the salespeople's eyes - the ones at Audi and VW couldn't have been more disinterested! Thank you. Read more

Unless the C-HR is too small for your needs, I would keep it.

Was at a main dealer in Surrey last week near Guilford. As I parked my car a parts delivery arrived from EuroCarParts - so much for genuine used parts being used on customers cars. Cusotomers are charged a premium from Euro Car prts delivered products. - Sharp practice (IMHO). Dealership was owned by Inch****ape and sells a lot of hybrid cars from Japan. Read more

Was specifically offered two prices. One, more expensive, with Citroen parts another with generic parts. Observed to the service receptionist that I was surprised to find such a deal in a franchise site. She explained it was standard process for older vehicles as many owners were unwilling/unable to pay full price. ""...
