Hello after getting rid of my old financed car I'm looking for a new small car which is reliable, good on fuel and not too boring with a budget of 3 thousand pounds. I know this is a good place for suggestions thank you. Read more
Hello. Basically to make it short I want out of my PCP deal as I just don't like loans especially when they're expensive (not that I can't afford but just depressing to see how much I spend on a car that's not even mine at the end). I've had my car for a year now but as the value of cars newer cars has abruptly risen my car is worth much more than the buyout figure by almost 3 thousand. The car buying sites are offering a lot way over the settlement figure as obviously it's in brilliant condition. I prefer the thought of having much cheaper older cars that I can just own for a few thousand such as for example the 3rd generation swift that's proven to be cheap and reliable. If I find an older car with a good amount of mileage, known for its reliability for a few grand would it be a good idea or not? Read more
No need to worry, simply call your finance company for an early settlement figure then look up WBAC or local car buying services to see what they’ll offer. They will pay off your finance and pay any balance to you. No problems. Remember that WBAC will lower their figure when you attend with the car in almost every case and they’ll charge unnecessary fees also. I just sold a Volvo to a local equivalent who charged no such fees.
Hi
Any advice on a choice between these large SUVs with 7 seats? ... Read more
My 7yr old, low mileage, full history, approved used Volvo XC60 turned out to be a proper pup. I won’t be investing a lot of money into a complex elderly SUV ever again and I’d advise you against it too. I ticked every box when looking for that car. It stacked up in every way yet it was still a pig.
Hello,
I wonder if anyone can help.
My friend has his heart set on purchasing a salvage car with light damage (I can’t recall if it’s a Cat N or cat S).
The car in question does not have a log book, the company selling it told him to get a V62 and go to the post office where he can apply for the V5 and tax the car at the same time.
Is this correct?
Provided it’s one of the larger post office branches that deals with car tax, can he tax the vehicle by simply submitting a V62 at the same time?
The only proof he will have for owning the car will be a receipt from the car breakers.
One bit of detail worth adding is the car has MOT until May.
On a side note, the compound where the car is located is around 5 miles from the post office; if the car is insured prior to leaving the compound would he be okay driving the 5 miles or would he need someone (probably me!) to drive him to the post office and then drop him back at the compound?
Sorry for all tue questions but I haven’t purchased a damage repairable since the days of category C & D

To drive the car if indeed it is road legal because of its cat it should be insured and taxed before removal from the salvage yard. You do not need proof of ownership to tax with the V62 but it will cost you £25
Around about this time last year, I clipped a deer on the way home from work; deer got up and went of it's way but my headlight was broken. Because it is adaptive xenon, it's pretty rare and its impossible to get a good second hand(working) replacement. In September of 2021 I bit the bullet and ordered a new one from my local dealer. Because the bare piece of plastic with no bulbs or modules cost £1200, I was unable to pay over the phone and so I paid while I was there the following month for a recall. The headlight was supposed to arrive in early December but it is now the end of January and they still dont know when they might have it. The car has now run out of Mot and so it is off the road. BMW customer service are so incredibly lazy, they have not done anything other than say "we understand your frustration" without having done anything further to address the situation. I wish I could cancel the order and buy it elsewhere but they have me over a barrel because you can only buy it from them. For all I know the headlight might not arrive for another year, all the time, they have my money ! Read more
If the car is legally undriveable and permanently off the road without an MOT pass-is it not therefore a “write off”
No

Global presentation this morning from Nissan of the next Micra. Which, to no great surprise, will be electric.
A little nugget of information was that they expect battery prices to fall by 65% by 2028, making them cheaper than ICE’s.

Not so good if you divide that up between around 30 nations though. I remember (when I owned a K11 example 20 years ago) seeing them everywhere - including as courtsey cars for repair shops and for driving instructors' work cars, now you'll be lucky to see one a month unless you live near a Nissan dealership.
My point is that they used to be a value-for-money car for the masses. I'm not sure you can say that even now for the car, let alone when it goes electric-only for the next version, despite all the (IMHO overly-optimistic) assurances that they will be cheaper than ICE (likely only if artificially done via 'green' taxes and not because of cheaper battery prices [green tech is notorious for being over-promised on affordability and performance per £)....
Hi there, this is probably a REALLY stupid question, but do I need a physical copy of my driving licence in order to buy an approved used car? I need to change address on my driving licence, and (for reasons unbeknownst to me) I'm unable to change my address online.
So I'll need to send it off, and (according to the latest info) I'll be lucky to get it back before 2054. You can still drive while they're changing it apparently (and I'll take a photo in case I get pulled over or have a crash or whatever) but it's been AGES since I bought a car (I've been leasing for years but want to buy something soon) and have no idea about the process anymore. ... One would hope that if a change of address is reported to DVLA on line their system would undertake some level of verification to show the address is genuine and that the applicant has some connection with it.
If that process fails then presumably, as I know to be the case with Benefit Claimants (I do advice for a living), there will be some sort of alternative involving documents and/or a conversation.

All well and good developing these systems as humans move forward. But there is a danger of putting all the eggs in one basket with some tech. The recent undersea volcano near Tonga severed the Internet connection and very recently there has been concern about the danger of foreign powers cutting undersea connection to these islands. I trust governments have contingencies for what could happen probably discussed over cheese and wine in a working party
Highly possible these systems with be in orbit as Elon Musks system is, and hopefully be cheaper and faster than landline eventually, but it remains to be seen what happens
Thank you very much for the suggestions and advice I'll have a good look and update you's where I get.
