I had an issue with air condition on my 2.0ltr 59 plate Audi A5. The garage i took car for repair diagnosed air condition unit would need to be replaced. I was told that new air con unit from Audi parts dealership would cost me in the region of £900 , however he could fit new air con unit that was not from Audi dealer for £400. The job was completed using non parts and everything worked again as normal. After driving car for a day or two i noticed a strange intermittent rattle/noise coming from air con unit so I took car straight back to the garage to find out what this noise can be.The car was returned to me the next day with the owner of the garage explaining that the air condition bottle needed to be refilled after fitting and that this will stop the strange intermittent noise i was hearing. I was also advised that it was common practice to leave air con on permanently in the vehicle..?? I questioned this as air con runs on fuel and was told that for the amount of fuel used it would still be in my best interest to leave air con on permanently. I was not convinced about leaving air con on permanently but noise was gone everything worked again as it should and off i went...(with air con off) I didn't even get car home but intermittent rattle/noise was back again, I wondered why I was given the speech about leaving air con on permanently in the first place so I turned it on and sure enough the annoying intermittent noise coming from air con didnt go away but it did however ease slightly and was maybe not just as frequent as before . Has anyone ever heard of this type of issue with air con... Can it be repaired..? Read more

Please can anyone tell me if my headlight sitting proud can cause my car to have difficulties starting.
I recently took my car to the garage to have the headlight bulb changed as I didn’t want to do it it looks tricky. I haven’t noticed the headlight not being fitted properly as it’s only slight. But today my car would not start which is very rare as my car always starts has just had service new spark plugs battery and headlight bulb and other stuff to avoid this happening. When I looked at the headlight it is not located properly and I’m sure it feels warm at the top of the headlight or is this impossible. Would it be able to drain the battery if it isn’t fitted properly.. Read more

Really can’t see any connection between the headlight and the non start . Is it possible that they have run the battery flat fixing the headlight . ? If it’s the left side headlight , then battery connectors may have been disturbed.

I've often posted here about how good my local indy garage is. I've used them for years and have found them to be efficient, honest, good value, obliging, etc. But I've also mentioned that they were growing, employing more staff, were very (over?) busy, and that the opportunity to talk about the car symptoms/apparent issues had diminished.

Today I had further cause for thought. My ex-DiL (but we're all still close), little mechanical understanding and limited financial resources, has for quite a while complained of the smell of petrol from her old Chevy Lacetti 1.5. She took it to the indy, who supposedly looked at, saw a minor oil leak, diagnosed a leaking rocker cover gasket (which may cost £200), said they;d tightened it but it wasn't worth fixing. The car has an airbag warning light lit, and they said it wouldn't pass the next MOT.... Read more

Could the fuel level have been low when the indy had it on the ramp - the joint may then have been rusty but dry, more fuel when you checked made the leak obvious?

Maybe, but the marks from where the fuel was seeping down the outside was obvious regardless of whether or not any was leaking out at the time....

After the "yes" of their respective boards of directors, the PSA and FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) groups detailed the terms of their union.

Carlos Tavares at the controls.

As announced in October, Carlos Tavares, 61, chairman of the PSA board, takes operational management for five years of the new giant, which becomes the world's 4th largest manufacturer (8.7 million vehicles per year), behind Volkswagen, Toyota , and especially the Renault-Nissan alliance, which he left in 2013, in the middle of a showdown with Carlos Ghosn. He finds himself at the head of a portfolio of 14 brands: the five of the PSA group (Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel Vauxhall) to which must be added Alfa Romeo, Abarth, Fiat, Lancia, Maserati, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, RAM. A conglomerate that represents 170 billion euros in cumulative turnover and 400,000 employees.... Read more

Rumour is they will be killing off the DS brand now they have Alfa Romeo.

This announcement explains why Fiat have been non committal with the Tofas factory in Turkey regarding new commercial vehicles ; must be planning to re-badge the various PSA offerings.

It was probably 58 or 59mph. Many people treat the point at which enforcement begins (57mph in a 50 limit) as de facto a revised limit.

I'd be very interested to see the NIP if it was indeed 52 in a 50 (although that would probaly be 55 on speedo). Like Middleman I think he's complaining that he was only 2 mph outside the 10% + margin. Cake and eat it territory. ...

Nothing very remarkable about that vehicle stats website. It just uses the information from the DVLA website. www.gov.uk/check-mot-history Stick your reg in and click the MOT history. Read more

Hmm, It shows the fake advisories for brakes a few times.

How do I know they are fake? The brakes were replaced (by another garage), and they still kept saying they were pitted and worn....

Hello, might someone will be able to help me, or push me into the right direction.
I am Lithuanian I have a full lithuanian (EU) drivers license, which I've passed in early 2014.
In 2015 I've moved to UK, and made my biggest mistake in my life, drink&drive...
Please don't judge me..
Okey, so the court gave me 12 months driving ban, it also said to do an extended driving test after the ban is over, they also ask me to surrender my drivers license which I did not...
In 2018 I went back to Lithuania for holidays, I got my self a new drivers license (because the old exipired) and now I have my drivers license which is valid from 2018 to 2028, but my ban ended in the UK in 2017.
I have no restrictions to drive in Lithuania or any other EU country, because my drivers license is valid from the issuing country (Lithuania) however I am not sure can I drive in the UK (the offense was done in in Northern Ireland, where the law different from England...) because on the court order in does not say that I had non-uk drivers license, and I cannot check online I am allowed to drive in UK, because you only can check UK drivers license, online. However if I check my drivers license on my countrys online sistems it says the the drivers license is valind and had nor restrictions...
So anyone please help me out, doe's anyone knows the answer? Because I'VE been to 2 lawyers, and their answer was: I am not sure. And also, if i go to any insurense company with my current license, they are more than happy to insure a car for me, I believe that the insurense companys must see that we are still banned, or am I wrong? Also there is no information about EU drivers license on their website, it's only about UK drivers license. So doe's that mean when your ban is over you simply can drive, cause how can you re-do your test with other countrys issued drivers license? It does make perfect sense to re-do your test on UK drivers license but not EU. Read more

Best to contact the DVA and tell them everything. I'd hazard a guess that if you've been ordered to do a re-test, you will also need to apply for a NI licence, meaning that your Lithuanian one is no longer valid in NI (or in GB), even if you've renewed it. You could try to pass yourself off as a tourist and it may work, but the PSNI and British police will have your name and address and other details from the court case, and they can quickly check up on you at any time.
