I use a Disclok steering wheel lock on my Mazda 3. I also keep my car keys in a metal safe box to stop any possibily of the codes being lifted by villains.
Why these systems are used when they can be so easily hijacked by thieves I don't know. Car security is too important for gimmicks like this.

I see they've finally sorted out the windscreen wipers. Nice. Read more
It's French. No thanks.
Heading northbound towards Bromley from the M25 J4, there is a short stub section of the M25 which runs for about one mile to a roundabout where it becomes the A21.
Does anyone know the reason for this, and why it's not just the A21 immediately after the junction? I can't see any benefit in such a short section of motorway, and having a tiny section of the M25 that's between two roundabouts and not part of the main ring is a bit confusing from a road naming perspecitive.... They'll probably leave it to get worse so more people will consider public transport but the growing traffic shows theirs no appetite for people to want to use the current model of public transport if so many are using their personal motorvehicles .
Hello, my MIL has just written-off her Ka and now wants another car to replace it with. I feel as a doting SIL and to keep my wife's nerves becoming too frayed, I should advise her - she was ripped off with the Ka. Her emotional choice is another Mini (she had a Cooper for many years before she suddenly bought the Ka). I'm interested in anyone's views as to whether there's a more sensible purchase; here are the salient facts:
She's a very sprightly and totally competent 89 year-old.... Read more
It's one of these words whose meaning has evolved, in this case in the wrong direction. Some people could take it to mean that GT's mum-in-law is failing mentally, whereas GT's original post implied that that isn't the case.
'Old age' makes the point (your perfectly reasonable one that our reactions get slower as we get older) without the risk of offending anyone.
Now 8400 miles total, about 6300 since purchase 7 months ago.
Feels good to drive still, seats still as comfy and fuel consumption around 40-41mpg.... Read more
If I remember right, ORB, you had a couple of Chevrolets,

Has ANYONE ever seen these symptoms before? Done many searches but apparently not!

The butterfly valve is also known as an anti shudder flap . It is supposed to open when engine is running and close when engine switches off. It is to stop run on after ignition off. Commonly used on many makes especially Vag models.
Meandering through the internet the other day, with SLO's thread on 'bad cars' in mind, i came upon this little gem. The Mercedes Benz 280TE 'by Zender'. Zender being a German outfit offering up various means to (ahem) 'improve' your car back in the day. I seem to recall they did stuff as minor and inexpensive as front spoilers, but at the other end of the scale was this mental Merc. The exterior doesn't look too bad, albeit very much 'of its time', but the interior is something to behold.
Feast your eyes on this people...........!... Read more
Presumably the occupants were similarly attired - and shod....uh huh!
Reading a classic car magazine this morning, i came upon an advert for a classic car colloection for sale. One of the cars was this 'mini' mini!. I remeber seeing things like this in magazines now and again back in the 70's and 80's, but have not seen one for ages. Absolutely brilliant!, imagine using this to pop down town for a couple of errands?!. Doesn't seem too expensive to me either, given the price (BL) Mini's can fetch these days (and i don't just mean Cooper's, or cars with motorsport history)
Last Wednesday I was given a lift to the classic car afternoon/evening event at Luton Hoo. There were two really small cars there - an original Fiat 500 and an Isetta bubble car. I have memories of a longish trip five up as a student in a Fiat but not sure I would want to own one. If I had the Isetta I would trailer it to shows - it looks more vulnerable than a motorcycle with the opening front.
Some years ago a friend's son got an original Mini. Trying it again after many years I found I could get more comfortable than in the newer BMW variant!
When I put on my seat belt I have an intermittent fault with the seat belt warning light coming on and the beeping sound. Sometimes when I shake where the seat buckle goes into it would stop for a little bit and then start beeping again .
Any help would be much appreciated as it is very annoying when driving along.... Read more
You will need diagnostic kit to clear the warning light . It won’t go off on its own.
Hi,
Thanks for the info much appreciated.
The article on the Top Ten Cars most vulnerable to keyless theft should be compulsory reading for those who have a garage but do not use it for it's intended purpose.
I live in a close of 17 properties, all with garages and more than half with double garages, yet I am one of only three owners who garage their cars. The rest fill their garages with push bikes, freezers and discarded furniture, yet they probably tell their insurers that their cars are garaged overnight.... Read more
Why not have a car that will only start if a device is physically inserted into a slot in the steering wheel. Maybe we could call it a key?
This is a prime example of technology for the sake of it which makes things less secure, same category as internet connected door locks.......
If anyone who has had their car stolen that has been fitter fitted with keyless entry.
Firstly should take their manufacture to the small claim courts remanding that their security on their vehicle is not fit for purpose. Which basically it is not watching programmes on car theft a thief can over come the so called security in seconds.
Recently on Tv some people who had had their cars stolen this way the programme took them to a specialist who showed them how quick their car could be stolen.
But the stupid owners had already gone out and bought the same cars again. Just shows you how thick some people are.
If you look to the right in the column.
Key less theft: What is it and how do you stop it? and if you have any of the cars mentioned.
But as soon as the diesel gate has concluded I think the solicitors will be advertising. 'Bought a car with keyless entry and had it stolen contact us and we will get you thousands of pounds back as the cars safety systems were not fit for purpose'.
Stupid manufacturers.
