There are reportedly about 1 million cars driving around with no insurance so presumably the same individuals are not concerned about MOTs or any other hinderances to their daily lives. If they are caught the fines they incur are derisory and they usually end up in net profit over moneys saved. Points on a driving licence the same. If they are involved in an accident again they usually suffer no real pain financially. So not worth getting worked up about. It is much the same with the increase in fly tipping, penalties if caught are a joke and the chances of catching offenders are almost nil

As I said upthread, my daughter has had good experiences with both the Yaris and i10. What goes for Hyundai I would imagine goes for Kia too - they seem to be getting better all the rim, both in quality and innovation. But if I decided on a car which was going to have to last a long time, at the moment I think I'd still go for a Toyota.

While the EV charging infrastructure is still inadequate, there's a lot still to be said for the self-charging hybrid as pioneered by Toyota. I'd be interested to try the new 2.0 hybrid Corolla, which apparently suffers less from the off-putting frenetic rise in revs when you need a bit of acceleration, as when overtaking or joining a motorway....

You gotta laugh at these clowns. Sleepless nights over a car ?? When you are charged with running prostitution rings when you're completely innocent and facing a 7 yeats stretch that gives you sleepless nights....(fortunately the spurious accusations were unmasked pre trial)

Hi Folks

  • I'm thinking of buying a hybrid SUV in the near future. I was interested to read a Rav4 hybrid vs CRV hybrid comparison test on the Autoexpress website. The test compared 2wd versions of the cars. The Rav4 won the test as it was more practical, more efficient and marginally better to drive. This seems to be quite different to HJ's assessment. The Toyota's longer 5 year warranty also has significant appeal to me. Does anyone have any feelings about which of these cars would be the best purchase? ( I will probably buy the 4wd hybrid version. It will be a cash purchase. I drive approximately 12000 miles per year. I'm not sure how long I will keep it for. )
  • Thanks in advance

Heidfirst- if the waiting list for the Rav4 is that long I had better get my skates on and arrange a test drive. Thanks

It seems to be exacerbated by choosing certain options (2WD & panoramic roof have been mentioned). There apparently are/were a limited no. of vehicles that dealers had ordered for stock rather than for particular customers so if you can be flexible on your choices then you possibly could get something much faster....

In Rotherwick Hampshire on a lovely b type road in the middle of nowhere, on one side of the road is a little protrusion into the road. 'Give way to oncoming traffic' in one direction is indicated and often you sit waiting while the oncoming vehicle goes past and there's nothing else around. Perhaps it is to promote comeraderie as we wave thanks to the other driver and shake heads at the useless bit of road furniture. The road was fine before this thing was put in. Read more

Hi

I've got about £10k to spend and want an Audi A3, I do about 15k miles PA and want to know, if you take out the running costs which A3 Engine is the most reliable out of the 1.4 TFSI Petrol, 1.6 TDI or 2.0 TDI? Also is there anything to look out for when looking at A3 which could be a bad sign? ... Read more

The dealer cautioned that VAG cam belts should be replaced every four years or --as you say 120,000 miles. With 50k on the clock -I would advise get the cam belt changed at point of purchase rather than £550+ a year later.( whoever pays)

Shows how much dealers know, 4 years is for diesels. When I enquired about cam belts on the TSi I got 3 different answers from 3 different dealers (ranged from 3 years/30,000 miles to never needs doing) so asked Seat Customer Services and this was their reply....
