Hi,
I have a Ford Focus 1.6 petrol. I've owned it for over six years. I've never had to top up the Antifreeze/Coolant. However...
Three months ago I have a full cam-belt kit and water pump replacement done. One month ago I decided to check my oil and thought I'd check the rest of my car's fluids. I noticed my Antifreeze/Coolant was well below the minimum level. I thought this was due to the mechanics scrimping on topping up the Antifreeze/Coolant after they can done the replacement. I decided to fill up the Antifreeze/Coolant to over the maximum level. I drove it for a week and noticed it had gone down to below the maximum level. Now considering I haven't needed to top up my Antifreeze/Coolant in six years, and now the fluid keeps going down after the cam-belt/water pump change - I'm thinking something is wrong. I should say, through my tests, it seems to only go down when the car is being used. If I let the car sit for a week it doesn't go down.

Through what I can see there seems to be liquid dripping from underneath the Antifreeze/Coolant reservoir onto the engine mount. I know it's called the engine mount as the below video @ 1:35 the guy grabs (and says) the engine mount.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jpfCZJVCnw... Read more

<< the metal reservoir was much hotter than the plastic Focus tank, which gets merely warm. I could only hold my hand against it for about five seconds, so I guess it was about 60 - 80C >>

This difference will depend on the length of the connection between the cooling circuit and the overflow tank. My 205's tank is connected by several feet of hose, so it is unlikely to ever get more than warm.

I bought a ford C Max 1.5 tdci titanium 2015. Stop/start. No key.
Done 300 miles in it with no problems, I did notice the battery wasn't holding charge for very long.
I replaced the battery with the same type.
Making sure I disconnected the positive terminal first, before disconnecting any other wires or sensors.
It took over an hour, taking my time and being careful.

Switching on the ignition I now get a engine warning message.

"tank empty _ _ _ miles"... Read more

Being it a 2015 car, doesent it have an adblue sistem? If it does, fill the adblue tank and the car should start. If the adblue tank is empty, ecu wont allow the car to start. Not having adblue can increse nox and chlog dpf.

If the car ran out of fuel, you may want to bleed the air out of the fuel pipe and fuel filter as it doesent have a tank fuel pump

So, I get a new job, and it comes with a company car. Being tall at 6’4” I ask for a car that has the ‘pull the front of the seat forward’ extended bit for thigh support , and get a temp BMW 1 series from a more senior position car pool until I get an ordered Astra (have driven astras lots and they are fine)

Have had this 1 series a week and 500 miles now, and simply cannot get remotely comfortable non it, and finish my 50 mile commute with sore right ankle, front of shin, back of thigh, and right buttock, as well as sore left front of shin bizarrely ! Have tried every combo of reach, tilt , height , thigh support out or not, even putting a cushion on top - but just get pins and needles within 5 mins.

I’ve not driven a floor pivot accelerator car before with such a low position before, that’s all I can think of as have driven autos , other bmw’s And low lying cars before and never had this much discomfort .

I most be the only person who genuinely can’t wait for an Astra instead of a BMW ! I will miss the lovely IDrive system and gearbox, but not it’s driving position. Has anyone else found 1 series horrible to sit in ? Read more

I had a 116 manual as a loan car for a day. I am 6'2" and can't safely operate the clutch pedal! It certainly distracted me from the issue of seat comfort....

My Mazda 6 2012 (mk2) has a steering angle sensor fault. It pulls to the right at low speed but is fine once on the move. Does this job have to be done by a Mazda garage? Rang a recommended indie who said they couldn't be sure of configuring it correctly after fitting. Read more

It's presumably to tell the power steering system where the wheels are pointing. No warning lights.

Wondered what the good sages on here might advise with an unfortunate issue with my wife's 2014 1.0 Hyundai i10.

One evening she mentioned there was a worrying new noise from the lower engine compartment. When I checked, it had virtually no oil in the sump as I put in 3 litres before it came up to the dipstick minimum mark...... Read more

Rumfitt, whatever action you pursue with this pointless dealer, there is no way i would let them have my car again.

Whilst its under warranty have you investigated other dealers within travelling distance, especially those in more rural (farming, not the Cotswolds) areas, i know people who have researched other dealers and try to combine a visit with getting their cars serviced by competent people offering value instead of giving an awful local dealer who thinks they have a captive customer base any more business.

Hyundai / Kia group have never been able to master gearboxes and clutches, it’s the one area they have always had problems with on a variety of models

Very strange, since they have produced some good diesels. Surely they can learn from other manufacturers and design a decent gearbox and clutch.

There are reportedly about 1 million cars driving around with no insurance so presumably the same individuals are not concerned about MOTs or any other hinderances to their daily lives. If they are caught the fines they incur are derisory and they usually end up in net profit over moneys saved. Points on a driving licence the same. If they are involved in an accident again they usually suffer no real pain financially. So not worth getting worked up about. It is much the same with the increase in fly tipping, penalties if caught are a joke and the chances of catching offenders are almost nil

As I said upthread, my daughter has had good experiences with both the Yaris and i10. What goes for Hyundai I would imagine goes for Kia too - they seem to be getting better all the rim, both in quality and innovation. But if I decided on a car which was going to have to last a long time, at the moment I think I'd still go for a Toyota.

While the EV charging infrastructure is still inadequate, there's a lot still to be said for the self-charging hybrid as pioneered by Toyota. I'd be interested to try the new 2.0 hybrid Corolla, which apparently suffers less from the off-putting frenetic rise in revs when you need a bit of acceleration, as when overtaking or joining a motorway....
