The decision to build the new X Trail does not come as a complete surprise.
With the Nissan Board reported as wishing to take back some control of future models the decision to manufacture in Japan seems sensible.

This will ensure the return to Japanese standards of quality as opposed to those of Renault upon which many of their UK products are based.

But the media have taken the opportunity to blame Brexit. I read somewhere that The French Government AKA Renault have been keen to return more Nissan production to spare capacity in mainland Europe. Read more

I believe it's more to do with the new EU anti tax avoidance laws: many of the 'very rich people' want the UK to be a low-tax, light-regulation regime.

Is that why Sunderland voted 60% to leave?...

I bought a car from a non main dealer yesterday having inspected, hpi clear etc. Has full main dealer history and the dealer ran through the digital printout to prove this when I bought. It wasn't til I got home and looked at other assorted paperwork that I found in the pack he gave me that I discovered that the car had a complete engine rebuild about 1k miles ago. This was carried out under warranty but was a substantial failure - head gasket, turbo, injectors - the works.

My question is, legally or under industry rules, should the dealer have told me of this? He clearly bought the car with that history too and was obviously looking to move it on as simply as possible, but it's a pretty fundamental thing not to mention. There is no chance that he was unaware of it.... Read more

it is a fact that the problem does not matter unless he willfully deceived you, which means whatever he has said about the car must be true for legal reasons.

If he had said to you and you can prove it that it was the original engine then you would have a case, but if he said nothing then you have no legal leg to stand on, because...

Hi: a friend of mine has a 2017 Peugeot 108 1.0-litre. Last week she experienced complete power failure while driving to work - managed to pull over safely and, after a short while, restart the car. Peugeot dealer says he can find nothing wrong and nothing is registering on the diagnostics, but she has lost faith in it. Anybody experienced anything similar or got any constructive suggestions? Thanks Read more

As I understand it: all the warning lights came on and the engine shut down/lost power. Electrics stayed on

Hi all,

I'm currently looking for a second car as a work commuter (30 miles per day). My requirements were: isofix, petrol, 5 door, mileage under 80k, costs less than £3.5k (roughly) and can also be of a good enough size to be used as a main car temporarily if needed.... Read more

Absolutely nothing wrong with another petrol Civic at all but the Mazda is a bit nicer to drive and like for like you’ll get more for your money.

Went to test drive a 2016 petrol CR-V SE+ today. Found it much more responsive than the 1.6 diesel and am considering a purchase. Our existing car is a month away from new tax & MOT and I'd prefer to get a new one before then if possible.

However the car is newer than we wanted and thus more expensive - it's up at £15,885. Originally we were offered £350 part exchange for our clapped out old C-MAX. But after some discussion we got the dealer down to 15k for the car, (including part exchange) plus tax plus a tank of fuel.... Read more

I've said this before (and don't recall anyone taking any notice) but I'll say it again .... take a look at the number of big red crosses listed in HJ's "What's good and what's bad" and then tell me why the CRV is so popular. I would imagine the answer is that so few people look at HJ's reviews in comparison to the number bought, sold and owned - plus the big red crosses can't be so widespread or serious as to as to come to the notice of the vast majority. Or, alternatively, they DO keep going wrong but because it's a Honda, no-one owns up to it.
