Sorry for rambling, want to give a full picture before my question. Got my dream run-around in January, 08 plate, only for it to be stolen in February. With no news after a month, I agreed to an insurance payout (price I paid less excess, fairplay Tesco). It has subsequently been found (was pulled over for another offence while sporting false number plates), and I have finally been offered the chance to buy it back at salvage bid cost. It's at an auction house, maybe 50 miles away, and I expect to have to pay for recovery, and of course any repair. The plan is to recover it, get it checked over, to make sure repairs are worth it, if not maybe even scrap it- taking a gamble, aware we may be out of pocket after but hoping it's still fairly sound. My question is what is the rough minimum cost of recovering such a vehicle and getting it to an insurable, driving-legal state (presuming/hoping! there is little or no mechanical issue)? The insurers mentioned it's condition would need to be certified before they'd insure this- would this just be an MOT or? Thanks. Read more
Already asked about inspection and they said it wouldn't be possible, as it's now in hands of salvage company :/
You can find out the costs of the inspection, transport and buyback before making any decision, was my point. First thow, find out if it is category D.
Since I "took on" the might of the VW/Skoda Empire re the not-uncommon DSG dropping clean out of gear, at low throttle opening issue , and despite paying £600.00 to an absolutly top-notch Motor Engineer (plus travel & accomodation on the Mainland costs) for a damming report.

My wife's Skoda Yeti had the fix update in January 2017. In the nine months since then the car has spent a total of over 2 months over 5 visits to the dealer and has had 2 EGR valves and various other associated parts replaced. After the second EGR valve the car managed 3 days and 100 miles before going back into limp mode with 2 warning lights on. It is currently back with the dealer with what I suspect will be another EGR fault. Incidentally since the fix fuel consumption has increased. Average dropped by 6-8 mpg.
I rang Skoda customer services months ago - no help whatsoever - so in July I wrote to Skoda UK CEO and am STILL awaiting correspondence in reply.
In my view VW Group were fraudulent in fitting the cheat device in the first place, they lied to and cheated their customers, they defrauded the government and therefore the taxpayer out of vehicle excise revenue, and they have massively contributed to the pollution in the air that we all breath.
And guess what, the UK government have done NOTHING.
And of course the (Germany ruled) EU have also done nothing.
A truly disgraceful affair.
Over the years my wife and I have owned 5 VW Group vehicles but will NEVER EVER buy another.

Oh and also check the diesel gets up to temperature. The thermostats go and are a b***** to replace - usualy solution is to put another in the top hose. Can be a bit parky on a cold winters morning when the coolant won't get above 45 deg c!

Check the VAG forums for someone near you with VCDS who will be able to help you. I do, and I'm in Hampshire if that helps.

Scott22, your're welcome.
I am rather perturbed by comments made by RT regarding the lower wattage HID - much appreciate finding out at this time....
Hi all,
About a month ago I noticed that the car's transmission was less smooth along with a groaning/clicking noise when bringing the clutch back up after changing gear. It seems to be coming from the back end of the car, although I'm not 100% sure on this. It was noticeably between 1st and 2nd, although it has been occasionally between 2nd and 3rd. It's very apparent when coming out of a junction, where quick gear changes are needed to gain speed. In addition to this, I've noticed that when the car is stationary and in neutral with the engine running, the clutch makes a much more noticeable noise. When depressing and then releasing the clutch there is another clicking/clanging sort of noise coming from the front of the car. I am able to change the intensity of the noise with how fast I bring the clutch up. So in other words, if I basically just let the clutch come back up on its own, it's a very loud clicking/clatter noise where as if I gently bring it up, the noise is barely noticeable.
The car lurches forward and is in general very juddery after changing gear and just isn't as smooth as it has been before. It's a 2004 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2.
I've been looking at topping up potentially low gear oil/transmission fluid etc. and from what I understand this car has a cable operated clutch instead of a hydraulic one so some these things may not be applicable.
The garage seems to be the obvious place to go but does anyone have an idea as to what these noises could be? Many thanks. Read more
Full right to the max line. I'm unsure as to how old the fluid is- it's not too dark or dirty.

Ok, thanks
