Have owned VW Golfs and an Audi A3 for the last 20 years and fancy a change. Everything about the Kia "on paper" looks good and of course the 7 year warranty is an attraction, as is the spec and the cost. I've read the reviews-all good-and a Kia dealer is local, so a test drive is the next thing!
I want a good runaround work horse which can happliy handle a few motorway trips. Mileage about 10k a year-tops. Will probably buy nearly new-but that depends on availability... Read more
Hi there, new post/1st post. My Honda crv has just rolled off my drive and hit a tree. There is damage to the rear of the car. Not concerned about damage to the tree and no other parties are involved. My question is - can I make a claim on my insurance? Fully aware that I will have to pay excess and it will screw my no claims. Read more
Got there ahead of me RT. I have an 11 year old Skoda Superb with well over 200K miles. I used the extended service interval routine and the car asked for a service about every 18-20K miles. Which, when I was working was about every 7-9 months. The oil was a high spec VAG long life synthetic oil. The miles were 90% motorway and to this day I have used only 4 litres of this high spec oil to top up. Stopped the extended regime when I retired (about 20K miles ago!!)and now change oil and filter every year at MOT time. Still insist on using good quality oil though. Nothing wrong with extended service intervals if the vehicle use suits it. Horses for courses I believe is the expression.
Meanwhile, back at the thread. I wonder if the OP has done his sums yet?...
Smoke 'n mirrors, I note only the revenue from the VED, i.e. no mention of the fuel duty income, and 5 years down the road.
However a simple clear system, which on the face of it seems "fair" esp. the 5 year limit to the £350.00 surcharge on the £40,000.00 plus cars. Read more
I suspct that all of us who own lowish CO2 cars are going to get a shock come 2017. As we no longer have tax disc it would make sense to just put it on the fuel at the pumps. That way the more you drive the more you pay. Still, I suppose its foolish to expect an ounce of common sense from any government.
Alternatively, if not bothered about having the latest reg then look for pre-reg Hyundai i20's, Nissan Notes and Vauxhall Merivas. Read more

Hi. I'm looking at purchasing 04/05 Skoda Superb Elegance 2.5 TDI V6. I really like it as I've seen it in a local garage. I don't know much about cars, especially Skodas. I've read mixed views about this engine and car etc. I'm so confused. It's got full service history, I believe and an Auto gearbox. It's done 115k miles. A mechanic mentioned if the double cam let had been done. I don't have a clue what that is and the guy from the garage doesn't know if it's been done as there's no receipts. Also, it's had some electric issues that has led to it losing power. The garage is repairing that as apparently it's not a major issue.
Please advise me this vehicle. Should I go for it or not? Are they good cars/engines? If I do, then what should I make sure of or watch out for?
Thanks Read more
The 2.5 V6 engine is a lemon. It has an unreliable and expensive fuel pump known as a Bosch VP44. Google VP44 failures and pour yourself a beer.
The auto box is a further disaster with the reverse clutch drum breaking up around the circlip groove. This gives reverse gear failure followed by a gearbox full of swarf....
Just wondering what unusual/ weird/unpleasant experiences forum members have had when buying or selling a car (other than being ripped off, that is, which of course ain't that unusual for some of us). It might be the strange behaviour of the would be seller/ buyer, something else which might have happened during the sale that completely threw you. No names no pack drills, obviously.
My own offering doesn't concern me personally, but my brother.... Read more
buying a new car, paperwork etc signed, only to be told that there had been a factory price increase, the small print stated that in the event of factory price increase the dealer had the right to pass it on, in full, I can't recall whether there was an option to pull out of the deal but irrespective of that to do so would have only forced me to restart the by then completed search for a new car. The manufacturer was Austin Rover (or whatever they were called those days) and add this to my contribution to the current thread on worse car ever owned it is easy to understand why I never visited their showrooms again.
Hi Guys,
I am thinking of getting a private number plate - Any advice on where to take a look? ... Read more
"One of the cons is that a personal plate, once known to your friends and family, is very recognisable if you are somewhere you aren't supposed to be, e.g. secret lady friend's, horse race when you've booked a sickie. (not that I'd do anything like that !)"
Doh ! I didn't think of that....
Hi folks. My son has asked for a car amplifier for his birthday. Never needed on myself so I wouldn't have a clue what to look for or what is best to buy. I've been using a classified ads comparison website to see what different brands and models are for sale online here in the Rep of Ireland (www.for-sale.ie/car-amplifier) but I'm still none the wiser really. I know that there is always Halfords but I'd rather use a dealer specialised in audio rather than a general motoring retailer. Can anybody make any recommendations? Alpine and Pioneer seem to be popular brands but I am sure that there are many more out there. Does anybody have a good experience of a particular product you would care to share or recommend? Pros and cons? Any help or advice would be greatly a appreciated. Read more

I also bought a Ceed 2 CRDi SW Auto in April. It was registered July 2014, so was 21 months old with 13,000 on the clock. As it was over a year old, the warranty wasn't restarted, but I'm happy it still runs until July 2021.
I changed from Mazda 6 2.2 diesel, so it was a bit of a downsize. Having said that, we've been away on holiday in it and there's more than enough space when a roofbox is used. In day to day use, it's an acceptable size....
