Stripping a very gunged-up Mikuni carburettor, off a neglected 133cc Yahamaha RZR 2-stroke. Despite its sorry state, its a welcome relief from the concurrent issues with the "snakepit" 1986 Aisan on my Daihatsu car, because its comparatively SIMPLE.

Interesting, I've never seen anything like that on a jet needle. As the C-clip is in the lowest groove and the plastic bung is BELOW it, it's raising the needle quite high out of the main jet.

If you're careful handling the needle, you shouldn't need to soak it. Any deposits should wipe off with a spray / dip of carb cleaner and using a toothbrush or similar. Just don't use anything metal or abrasive as that can change the diameter of the needle.

Morning all,

I've recently become a first time father and now need to upgrade the motor. I do a lot of motorway driving, a new born here so room for a pram etc.

I've been looking at a few options such as a focus, octavia etc but thought I'd see what you guys suggest.

The budget is max of £4 in the ideal world however I may be able to squeeze £5k in a couple of months time Read more

I'd also be wary of a diesel at your price range. There's just too much to go wrong, though the VAG 1.9 unit is a long lived lump, it does come with the troublesome particulate filter in later guises. I'd stick with petrol. Astra, Focus, Octavia and Honda Civic are all good options but condition and history are more important than make and model. The Civic has a huge boot, it's well made, looks different has an excellent chain driven 1800 petrol that gives strong performance and still exceeds 40mpg without much hardship. The 2.2 diesel does over 50mpg, goes very well and avoids a particulate filter but can suffer from problems thanks to the extra complexity. Astra is simple and robust in petrol form and there's a good diesel option in the 1.7 Isuzu engined variant but I'd stay clear of the Fiat engine in the 1.3, 1.9 and 2.0 diesels which are all known for problems. The Focus again is largely trouble free in petrol form, the Yamaha designed 1600 is sweet but no fireball but the 1600 PSA HDI diesel is notorious for turbo failure and it often kills the engine as metal fragments are ingested as a result. Loads of woe to be found online regarding this engine which appears in many Peugeot/Citroen models along with Mini, Ford and Volvo. Above all keep it simple when shopping on a budget and look for full history and longterm previous ownership. If someone's only owned it a matter of months then there's likely to be problems with it.

Hello guys

Im new here nice to meet you

So i have some sport wheels which has been diamond cut and have been lacquered

After having them on for two days hey are dirty so I'm going to clean them and will continue to do so as i know diamond cut wheels are a life long commitment

Anyway so i have a routine i have gathered from reading online can someone help me

They are: (note its the first time I'm washing these)

Wash (not a jet wash just some normal shampoo and then clean with some warm water)

Polish ( use autoglym resin polish with micro cloth)

Sealant (poor boys , will put two coats on then after every cash wash i do a car wash once a week or every two week)

Wax ( will put 3 coats on then every four weeks)

What do you guys think? Shall i skip the polish and go straight to sealant and wax?

Also lets say once iv done the above i want to wash my wheels so i have to put on the sealant and wax again? And do this every time i wash my wheels?

Thanks guys Read more

Further to my previous post, I'll add that BMW replaced 3 of the wheels FOC at the 3 year end-of-warranty check set.

The fourth one wasn't scabby, in spite of the fact that my wife had scraped the alloy wiithin 2 days of us picking the car up, 2 1/2 years previously !

I often marvel at how in the past people built huge castles, some beautifully sculpted in stone with fantastic interiors of carved wooden paneling with primative tools.

How is it, that in a modern world with well engineered power and hand tools that modern tradesmen are incapable of even making an acceptable fit and finish? Read more

Hi all

I have marked the make/model above as irrelevant purely because I am considering legal action and wouldnt want to jeopardise my case by going into print at an early stage.... Read more

When a friend of mine was given a refund on a £60 k second hand car he found like you that his old car had been sold on to a trader.

When he tried to buy his old car back from the second dealer he was asked for £16k whereas he was only allowed £12k as part exchange.

He was so upset that three months on he still has not bought a replacement and uses one of his company vans

Hi all, I hope someone can clear this up for me.

I took my 2013 E350 Coupe for a new back tyre last week and was informed the front wheel alignment was out. I checked with Mercedes as the car is still under warranty and thought I'd be able to pull a fast one......no luck, however after quoting me £230 plus vat I informed them kwik fit quoted a maximum of £130 all in. I was then informed if kwik fit did the work it would invalidate my warranty!!!!

Is this correct? Seems a little unreasonable to be honest.

Thanks
Phil

What's the problem with kwik fit? Apparently they use some hunters technology. Always thought they were quite reputable??

Not used to this, in my day we didnt have them. Not that its a bad thing but its confusing, just need to know which one to buy. This is the one i'm thinking of www.prams.net/cam-viaggiosicuro-car-seat

I would just ask your children to bring the kids with their car seats (assuming they have them), problem solved.

Hi, I received a parking charge from uk car park management limited back in Nov 15. It's on the land where I live, I basically live in a flat and there is private parking where we park.

All our neighbours have ignored their letters with nothing coming of them. And we have got about 6 in the past. But this one we have received a letter before claim from gladstones solicitors. It says we have now been instructed to take legal action against me. They are asking for £150. Which is rediculous as we live here! We have 14 days to pay or respond. It then says they are instructed to start proceedings without further notice.

What is the best way to respond? I really have not got that money spare, I've just been made redundant in my job, and times are tough!

Any help appreciated?

Sarah, as a post script, go online and look up Gladstones. You will probably find they are part of UK Parking and only act on there behalf. These parking sharks buy up redundant or retired solicitors names and use their names for official looking documents to scare ordinary folks into paying up. Check it out.

Also as davey pointed out, the links he provided offer good advice and help....
