Just wondered whether anyone had any experience of the above product, and whether anyone who is thinking of using it would like to hear about mine.
I noticed a sound coming from the vicinity of pulleys and belts the other day; a sound which I had already noted after having the cambelt changed and which only used to be audible for a few minutes after starting the engine from cold. The noise is now there most of the time, a sort of "whooping" noise which went in time to the speed of the drivebelts, so I took it back to the chap who did the cambelt. He told me the noise was one of the belts and that he would get some spray to put on it. I said no, its OK, I'll buy some because I might need it again.... Read more
Hello, l would be grateful of peoples opinion on a Mercedes ML250 (diesel 2.1 auto) 2013 plate.
After over 10 years of service the family car, a Seat Alhambra 1.9 diesel is nearing the end, As l'm now retired, we don't generally do too many miles, though we do have a static van on the coast & 2 dogs to accomadate in the car.... Read more
Just a response to the interesting point that DirtyDieselDog made about the 1.9 PD engine, in as much as l fully agree. The Alhambra does have the PD & is on 263K mileage, still going strong. Nothing wrong with the engine & has been ultra reliable, though other componants are failing, mainly trim & internals.
If it wasn't for the problems of parking where we live l would keep the Alhambra & buy a convertable for running about.

Come at it another way. Pretend you are selling it-fill in it's details to the We Buy Any Car website--and see what they notionally offer you. Bound to be a rock bottom figure.
Use the WBAC figure when negotiating a more realistic price than what's currently being asked?
Hello! Can anyone tell me what other models and years brake calipers will fit my 2001 Fiesta? I think the Puma before 2002 but thats all my reseach has found! Read more
Have a look for your car on the Pagid website and then put that part number into the search. The 'PC' tab shows what other models it fits.
Hi,
Following knee surgery I'm looking to buy a diesel automatic SUV. Now the last time I drove an automatic was years ago and I remember not being very impressed. It was sluggish and when it eventually decided to change gear it lurched forward whilst doing so. I'm sure times have changed.... Read more
Kate - you need have no fears about the ASX being a 4x4. The 4wd only comes in when it's needed: here's an extract from HJ's road test which you can see in the Reviews section of this site.
"The 2.2-litre diesel is only offered with four-wheel drive but under normal conditions it acts like a front-wheel drive car. If it needs more traction at the rear then the system will send up to a third of the power to the back wheels. If things are particularly slippery then the driver can select a 50/50 lock torque split, handy in snow or in the mud."...
I have insurance via a 'retired profession' association, which provides a lot of benefits at a very reasonable cost. It now includes cars up to 15 years old (mine is 12) and throughout Europe. They use a network of local garage/breakdown services.
I've had to use it three times:... Read more
I haven't had a breakdown that could be fixed at the roadside for 30 years - but several requiring recovery - it's the nature of modern cars.
My experience of AA/RAC under new car warranties has been bitter, 4-6 hour waits so always retain my Green Flag cover which has also recovered after a couple of accidents, usually within the hour but 90 minutes on one occasion in the Highlands - and more importantly, Green Flag will accept owners' diagnosis and send a flat-bed directly rather than the farce of waiting hours for a patrol who can't fix it at the roadside but only they can authorise a flat-bed....
i note from my latest energy bill that Ofgem have stipulated a new rule whereby if an On Line Dual Fuel bill is in credit , a customer is refunded. That might be fine for some--but what about the old rule of bulding up your "credit" of lower summer use--to equalise the higher winter bill?
So what does this mean in bill terms ?-I had a £305 refund from npower combined with a rise in my monthly bill from £105 to £155.... Read more
I find it amazing that power companies and "switch" companies can, when coming up to renewel send me a statement sayin save £400 by switching to a new tariff....what this actually means is...it wont be £400 cheaper than what you paid this year, it will be £400 cheaper than if you dont switch to a cheaper tarriff as you will be put on our standard tarif........I actually went through all the comparison sites and I will actually be paying £50 more (for same usage) than I have this year even on the cheapest deal........so you can imagine how many people will potentionaly be "conned / confused by this.
GM of Winchester asks if any other VAG cars have ran away with the handbrake on.This is exactly what happened to my Seat Leon last year causing 1k worth of damage Read more
I am not surprised at the problems that GM of Winchester had with his local Skoda dealer in Winchester (on St Cross Rd.). When they were a VW dealer, I purchased a brand new Golf from them and they fitted a dealer fit VW alarm which included automatic arming so many seconds after the last door closed. After a couple of months, it kept going off which was diagnosed to be an intermittent drivers door switch that indicated that the drivers door had been opened again after the alarm had set. However, Winchester motor company said that I would have to pay about 40 or 50 pounds for parts and labour because this wasn't covered by the VW warranty. Why? Because the item had been tampered with by someone other than VW and so the warranty was voided. After telling them not to be so stupid and threatening to claim the full cost plus an admin charge back from them as the people fitting the alarm, they agreed that it would be covered by the warranty.
Some years later, I was stupid enough to darken their doors again to get an MOT done. They did the MOT, I paid, they handed over the keys and I went to the car. Looking at the paperwork, I noticed that the MOT certificate was missing. I went back in and asked where it was. After a while searching for it, they discovered that there wasn't one because it had failed due to worn suspension bushes. If I hadn't noticed that the certificate was missing, I would have been driving round in a car without an MOT. And they couldn't do the work (replacing front suspension bushes) for another three weeks. So I took the car elsewhere for the repair and an MOT. The place I took it to said that there was some wear, but that it should not have failed an MOT....
Hi, thanks for letting me join the group, I am stumped by this issue...
My front blowers are not working on my Signum, the only setting that works is the demist on front screen and when I turn that on then I briefly get air in the front blowers but that stops once the demist fully kicks in, I changed the green resistor but still no joy, so could it possibly be the actual panel unit? All the air con, demist front and rear work, its just the left(air direction) and right (speed 1-4) switches for air direction and speed not working. Its a pain in this warm weather!! Read more
Does this have the same blower as fitted to the Merivas that go on fire?
DOnt mess with the blower or fuses unless you know what you are doing. A lot of cars have been lost due to the wrong fuse being fitted or amateur "fixes" in VX cars.
Some of the vocabulary and expressions used in car reviews baffles me. Just read one which said gear changes were 'notchy'. What does that mean in practice ?
Some cars are referred to as 'fun' to drive. If you have to ask what that means does it mean you won't get it ?... Read more
I suppose some of the initial spec stuff is useful--but more information re actually living with the car would be more useful, (users proper day to day experiences) and the key question of all-will it last?

Yes, it was about brake cleaner, not fluid.
I did some Googling and, paraphrasing the consensus, it seems to be "don't do it, though if you do its unlikely to destroy your belts unless you do it on a regular basis." I did it once, and it does, I think, evaporate pretty rapidly. I rinsed the belts with warm soapy water afterwards, so if anyone is going to get away with committing such an outrage it'll probably be me. ;0) ...
