Does anyone know the GTL(Gas to Liquid) percentage of Shell Nitro+ Diesel?

Is there any GTL in BP Ultimate Diesel?... Read more

If it's lower calorific value it should be cheaper - not more expensive!

They call it greener fuel so its more expensive and supposedly stops your engine/fuel system getting dirty keeping it more efficient (same old hype) thats what the sign said at the garage (except the expensive and supposedly)...

It's a copy (yes, I know now!). Managed to get it out by pressing it down with a piece of thin plastic, whilst still in the reader. Original disc works OK. Lesson learnt!

I have a 2003, 320i (2.2) with the ZF 5 speed auto. It has only covered 29,000 miles (mostly long runs) - full BMW history. A bit of a time warp car.

Most Indepedent specialists recommend changing out the transmission fluid (and the differential) - due to the age. Some have told me at that mileage that it's fine. BMW dealers are all (with exception of one) with the sealed for life mantra. Transmission is operating perfectly - no bumps or noises or hesitation. If it's necessary I'd like to get it done, if not I'd prefer to save myself a few hundred quid! Any sound advice would be greatly appreciated.... Read more

And ZF are very clearly at odds with BMW! I would think that fluid costing over €20 per litre must have a high degree of robustness and longevity. I also assume there are many BMW automatics at over 100,000 miles running fine on the original fluid. I guess non changing of fluid may not be the primary reason auto boxes give trouble. There are people who'd break even the most robust object!

I scraped the side of my pride and joy, not badly but enough to be annoying. Took it for a repair at my local indie body shop and a few days later went to pick it up. Looked great and it was being valeted as I arrived. Chatting to the owner in the meantime we watched in amazement as a large BMW backed straight into my car denting the bonnet! Just left it there when the BMW owner sheepishly said fix it and send me the bill................car now back and looking good. Read more

Now that we have deviated thoroughly from the original post I would like to add Irlen Syndrome to the discussion. That affects people of average or above average intelligence It affects the way way the brain processes black print on a white background. If they have it badly it prevents them reading. One chap I know was laid off when a company changed its way of employing staff to get rid of the pension scheme and temporarily became a taxi driver. He knew the way implicitly but couldn't easily read street names.

One of my work-mates just could not spell and found writing reports a chore. The boss eventually asked him to check anything he had written against a dictionary. He was very disconsolate when he said to me, "How can I look things up in a dictionary when I don't how they are spelled"....

I want to fit a tow bar to draw a caravan up to the recommended caravan/car weight ratio limit. The car is as it left the factory unmodified. The local franchised dealer has confirmed a price of 'at least £4000' but likely considerably more because he says the car needs:-

The only item that may need upgrading is the cooling fan.MB do a higher output fan motor Assy for cars that tow.Totally confused as to how a larger fuel tank can affect the cooling system!

Hi,I am looking for a used petrol for around £4k-£6k. I do roughly 12k miles per year and with most of those miles on motorways/a roads.Car wise something small-med hatchback and with decent legroom and some comfort on long trips as it is mainly only me traveling. It needs to be good on fuel, reliable and cheap to run.Any suggestions ? So far my list is:

Toyota auris 1.33,1.4 (discarded the 1.6 because reviews said top gear is too low)

Honda Civic 1.8 (From certain reviews seems a bit thristy and the 1.4 is too underpowered)

Honda Jazz (Read that it is not good on long trips)

Thanks

Also on my list I got:

7 gen civic 1.6
8 gen civic 1.8
02-06 Corolla 1.6

Locally I have found several 04-05 civic 1.6 under 100k miles with fsh for around 2.5k trade price. Not many about privitely. How much would you pay for the above cars roughly with under 100k miles and fsh ?

I have just bought an ex motability vauxhall mokka 65 plate 1.5 diesel for £10,750. It only had 5700 miles on the clock. I have had it 6 weeks and done 800 miles in it mostly short journeys. The DPF light flashed on briefly last week so i took it on the dual carriageway for 30 mins doing 4th gear at 60mph which cleared the light. Going to start using quality diesel and an additive but now im worried about short journey's. Any advice ?? Read more

I have been compiling my total cost of ownership of my car for several years and have to put together a calculator which is pretty accurate (within about 10% based on real numbers). It effectively uses AA running cost data (based on car list price) and HJ meal MPG data and Autotrader for used purchase price. I tend to buy cars at 4 years and 50-80k and keep them until circa 150k or 12-14 years, which is when they start to fall apart for me. (PS lease costs given my mileage come out at about double my current model of car ownership).

I do about 18k miles pa, so these cars last me 3-6 years.... Read more

So it will have sports seats, which in my opinion make a massive difference in terms of seat comfort. I'd say to the OP to make sure you can live with the standard seats if deciding on the BMW, otherwise go for the sport version, assuming you like the driving position, which I personally find OK. The sport seats have an extendable thigh support cushion at the front, useful if you're tall. And they have that rare thing now of being able to supply cool air to the face while simultaneously providing warm air to the footwells, great for long distance work....
