Our 2009 CMax 1.8 tdci has had 3 diesel fuel injector failures in the 3 years we have owned it. Each time, the car has gone into limp mode and the garage has found a fault code relating to one of the injectors. Two injectors have been replaced so far, one in 2012 and one in 2014. It broke down again this month and the garage (a different chain this time) advises a third injector needs replacing.
We have just about given up on the car - it feels too risky to drive long distances in it in case it breaks down again. Which kind of defeats the point of having the car!... Read more
I check the water regularly, last night I was travelling on the Mway the beep from the dash said low on water. I stopped and it was almost empty, I filled it up and waited to be checked all was fine and I carried on. 20 miles or so later it happened again. No one can find a leak the water pump and cam belt was replaced 2 years ago. There is no leaking underneath and garage said it's not the head casket Read more
Also check for signs of coolant leakage around the filler cap, you could have a leaking head gasket forcing the coolant out.
Hi, I'm hoping you folks can offer some advice here; I've got a small budget (£600) to buy a car that will last me 12 months. Of course all those I've seen advertised that have a long enough MOT are past their timing belt replacement period. So I'm thinking of looking for a cheap enough car and then getting the belts, tensioners etc. replaced. My question is, what makes are the cheapest to get the said work done? Read more

Buy a car with a known history of reliability....
I have Ford Focus 1.6 zetec 2003 model, 89500 miles regularly serviced. Today driven 10 miles in it no problems at all, stopped to unlock parking space, got back in key in the ignition, turned ignition very quick clicking sound and flickering dah lights, car will not start. Could this be a low battery in the key fob causing problems with the immobilser or should I be looking for something else? Read more
Sounds like the main battery. How old is it? If it's original then it's done well to last 12 years.
The different treatment of US and UK customers doesn't surprise me.

Which is just what we need a lot of uninsured Yahoo's whizzing about everywhere having accidents. That puts up the cost of everyone else's insurance. Since the levy to the MIB will have to increase and you could end up being unable to recover your excess from one of the uninsured clods.

Hello there, I have recently purchased a Smart fortwo Cabriolet, registered in October 2012. It has come to my attention that my car is without "all day running lights". As I understand it, all new cars registered after April 2011 had to have "ADRLs". My car being registered long after this, shouldn't it have "ADRLs" as standard equipment? Thanks. Read more
The date relates to a vehicles Type Approval date, so existing models didn't need DRLs even if built/sold after the relevant date.
Quite a number of cars don't have separate DRLs, they just use the side/parking lights.
I'm having a nightmare with blower motors this week, first the Picasso, now this.
Doesn't work on Any speed, i pull the resister pack out and it has 12v coming through red wire. But the fan still doesn't work? Connection is good, could it only be the fan itself? Fuses are all ok.
Many thanks! Read more
check fuses 10 and 11 in cabin fusebox also should be a mega fuse in engine bay fusebox.Wiring diagram also shows a power relay for the heater blower in the cabin box.

I have seen patients who are 70+ who should not be driving, but then I've I've seen patients 70+ who are perfectly fine and 'with it'.
Last week I had to inform the DVLA that a patient of mine was driving whilst well aware he is a liability and with vision around half as good as that which is required. I gave him a chance to just stop driving himself but the proud chap couldn't get to grips with reality so in the interest of public safety I informed the DVLA....
