I am using Firefox 42 on Windows 10, and have problems with an adware virus. When I open a new window, and navigate to a link, clicking in the new window switches to a new tab displaying an advertising site.

As far as I can see the MS Edge browser is okay.... Read more

Leif, firstly i'm as far from a computer whizz as you could imagine, we haven't gone for Windows 10, more than happy with 7 pro and whilst we can still get used refurbed PC so fitted that will do us fine.

However i had a recent attack that shoved lots of adware and spy stuff into the machine, i'd inadvertantly clicked on a PDF file for instructions on a watch of all things i was considering buying and whoa! bombarded at lightning speed....

Bought the car recently and noticed that the plastic moulding where the wipers are fitted has a gap where it fits to the windscreen. I remember a 2003 Focus used to have the pollen filter under the same moulding and often the mechanics would break the clips removing it, I know because it happened to me and I managed to glue it and fill it in with black sealant. BUT...this is a much wider gap, so wonder if water could leak through it and also the best way of sealing to windscreen if necessary. Thanks Read more

Thanks for the feedback, the plastic panel looks like it has been removed and not refitted correctly hence it made me think that it looked like it may have required sealant, but I bow to your wisdom and thank you both for responding. Regards.

I'm looking to buy a relatively low mileage and well maintained example. I've identified a few. What in particular should I be looking out for? Read more

The 280 was the engine with the well publicised balance shaft gear problem.

Do some research and check the engine code against affected units.

For radios whose Serial Number begins with a "V", followed by a six digit number, I'm afraid there is no Keycode generator available for you to work out the code yourself.

You will either need to visit your local Ford Main Dealer, or there are sellers on Ebay who claim they can supply the Keycodes for "V" Serial Numbers, for a fee....

First post - apologies if this is not the right place.

I purchased a new car (Vauxhall Astra). The car was registered on 30 Sept, but I didn't pick it up from the dealer (& part exchange my old car) until October 2nd. It now has a major intermittent fault which started in the first 2 weeks and which was attempted to be repaired by the supplying dealer. The fix hasn't worked and the same fault is still there. I have no confidence that they can fix the problem. Does the new Consumer rights act apply to me - i.e. point of sale is 2nd October when I took delivery, or is it the date the car was registered (Sept so falls under the old Sale of Goods act)?... I still maintain that whatever goods are purchased they must be fit for their intended purpose. So if a car is bought then it is covered by warranty against faults. How does it affect the warranty if the car is bought by a private citizen, sole trader or company director? A warranty is a warranty for that car and if it is faulty it is covered. Is it the case that the warranty does not apply if the car is purchased by any other than private citizens? I find that hard to believe. I appreciate the distinction between self employed and employed or retired but fail to see how it affects your rights under the law. I remain to be educated on this point. Cheers Concrete

Hello Its me

Hello.

I've got a 04 model 74000 miles. Its a beaut car but its just gone wrong and no one seems to be able to sort it. I'm just throwing money at it.

Long story short. Anti pollution light and engine light on.

So its had new turbo, new egr and solenoid on turbo. No joy, still running badly.

I've now been told I need a new turbo repeater valve and looking at another £800.

Apparently the gas pressures are wrong and the error egr limits not learned is coming up. Will this valve sort it and is that how much it should cost.

Any ideas besides scrapping the car?

The company I worked for made turbos for heavy duty diesels for use in trucks/buses/DMUs/gensets and for many years every turbo was hot-tested in an instrumented test cell burning red diesel.

Improved quality control of bought in castings and in-house manufacture led to a change to sample testing, reducing the tested percentages until confidence was established. ...

Walking along a busy road in town all I could hear was the sound of starter motors clicking as the cars shut down on stopping and started up when they started.

What damage these must be doing to the starter motors ? And are they fitted to autos ? Read more

Hi I bought a Kia C'eed 1.6 in July this year with full service history. The engine light came on on Sunday so took it to garage Monday but it initially struggled to start then kept cutting out at low revs. It started up ok each time but then stopped and wouldn't start. It's at Kia garage now and they are saying the timing chain has jumped but can't be done under warranty as the invoice for the last service(done in June this year at 50k miles) is missing. I spoke to the garage who did the service and they found the invoice but it's for labour only as the customer provided the parts. They suggested the Kia garage look at the parts (oil filter etc) to confirm they used genuine Kia parts and they were confident they used the correct oil as they said there's only one type of oil that can be used. They also said a problem would have been apparent before now if the wrong oil had been used (it's now on 56k miles)??

Thanks! Read more

No need to do that, the previous owner did it for you.

I have got myself into a real insurance write-off pickle following an accident and I seek advice on what to do next.

My wife was involved in an accident late on a Friday evening in my 07 plate, March 2007, 110,000 mile very good condition, 1.9TD C20 VW Caddy van. Unfortunately she also tested positive for drink driving. Further misfortune occurred on the following Sunday when she slipped and severely broke her leg. Whilst she was in hospital having emergency surgery on Monday morning I phoned my insurance company to report the accident. As you can imagine I was is a state of stress and shock.... Read more

You seem quite clear that the insurer told you to get it recovered (to exactly where is not important), while they checked your insurance status.

You then sold it for scrap WITHOUT waiting for them to get back to you....
