Now feel like a bit of an idiot so hope someone can advise.
I was looking for a car and saw one i liked on ebay, emailed the seller (business) who asked me to call them so i did, they said it was good a bargain they were 100% genuine sincere etc, told me if i wanted it i would have to be quick or it would be gone. It was advertised with new mot, but during the conversation i was told a desposit would be needed to secure the car plus get an MOT on it. I foolishly (looking back) paid the deposit via bank transfer. At no point was i told the deposit was non returnable. ... Read more

All German cars brands like Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and Porsche are amongst the top manufacturers of cars worldwide. They have some of the most priced and extravagant cars in the market.
Eh?
My grandson passsed his test yesterday. I will be buying him a second hand car, maybe a 1lt yaris. My question is would it be best to buy a 1k car for 1st year and upgrade to a 3k car after 1 yr just in case? Read more
I would definitely not spend too much, just making sure whatever you buy is safe, treat it to a brake service and a decent set of new tyres. Both our two were bought very second-hand cars, depreciation then is not a factor and the inevitable scrapes can be repaired if needed cheaply at a local body shop or just accumulated. Yaris is perfect, strong, cheap and reliable. They've realised the cost of running a car through experience, plus hopefully they've learned it's not necessary or financially astute to get into debt or sign up to PCP deals etc to be mobile.
So I currently take a cash allowance of £7000 and can claim 45p a mile on business mileage in my own car.
Question is if I switch to the company scheme (need a new car!) can I still claim 45p a mile on business mileage, it seems to me with modern cars pulling in at least 50mpg, this means you could make quite a lot of cash?... Read more
Thanks guys, thought it was probably too good to be true! :(
Test drove a Yaris the other week at a dealer's and found the clutch very hard work. Mentioned it to the dealer and he looked into it and found the clutch was worn and seized up. He said he has replaced the entire clutch assebly so I gave it a second test drive. It does feel smoother, but still quite hard work bringing it up to biting point - I had to fight/wrestle with it to hold stop it from popping up every time.
Could there be a way of adjusting it or is it just normal for the Yaris clutch?... Read more
As mentioned, the clutch on the yaris is a light one and does sound like the dealer has not done the job properly, so I would steer clear of that car.
there are a lot around so it shouldnt be difficult finding another good one

My vw golf (automatic TSI 1.6) is 5 years old with only 18000 miles on the clock. I took my car for annual servicing and was told that I need to change the cambelt in the car?! Is this really necessary? I have only done 18000miles. Read more

Or then again there have been issues with unexpected belt failure which is very hard to spot without removing the belt. So IMHO after 5yrs it's worth changing the belt.
The Telegraph article quotes those who are questioning whether the industry test methods are fit for purpose. Customers have been saying for years that they are not.
Perhaps we motorists can add a point to the agenda. That of disabling glare from the latest models of headlights. Is there a test in the MOT routine that tests the amount of light that headlights can emit ? I think there used to be but perhaps it's fallen out of use. ... Read more
I don't much like working on a Sunday (apart from playing the organ in church) so this is an opportunity to express thanks to people like you, GB, who are prepared to do so.
Bread is a good example: farmers, deliverers, bakers and retailers all work on Sundays to get us, as you say, our nice toasty loaf.
Yesterday, the rear parking sensors on my CR-V totally stopped working.
No beep as I engage into reverse, no anything!... Read more
Try fuse first.
Do reversing lights work? (If aftermarket, the sensors will be wired into them) If no, check reversing lights fuse, then check reversing light switch ....

Agreed....
