Did a 25mile round trip yesterday,(hottest day of the year..30odd degrees),& filled with petrol. Went to go go out in the evening & engine failure warning appeared(& audible warning). I turned the engine off & restarted after a few seconds. Everything fine. This morning I checked oil level etc. The coolant level was below minimum & no visible sign of leak. Car was recently serviced at Ford dealer & recall work was done..Coolant pipe replaced.
Started car, warning came up again, with engine light illuminated aswell as ! exclamation symbol & was running very roughly. Switched off & restarted, running perfectly.... Read more
My daughter purchased an Audi a3 (2010) from a dealer..car wasnt cheap, nearly £12000.. told that cambelt had been changed..new mot...90 point check..from what she thought was a reputable dealer. Upon driving home, the cars tyre had blown causing injury to her and passenger, left at night stranded..dealer did not help with repair/recovery, etc..managed to get family n friends to change tyre and drive home. Next day took it to kwikfit who picked up that other tyre had hole/cut..the first tyre had nail in it and some filler to cover it..they confirmd it had been there for sometime..wouldn't let car off premises until tyres changed..again she contacted dealers who would only pay for the lowest value tyres..not recommended by kwikfit and not suitable for this spec of car.She paid for tyres appropriate for car herself. Kwikfit guy suggested contacting trading standards as vehicle was sold faulty. She did this and still no reply from them despite repeated calls. She took car to Audi for free healthcheck, they picked up on oil leak on engine..turbo jet gone..cambelt not changed...brake fluid not changed..alignment out..tyre condition..fail..not looking good. Contacted finance and dealer to let them know..no one seems to be taking responsibility...she paid for full check from Audi as now worried what else could be wrong..and it cost another £150..they wouldn't let car go until oil leak fixed add another 30 quid...fair do to them that courtesy car was provided...my daughter has contacted dealers who have admitted they 'misinformed' her about cambelt change, but refuse to pay for work or approve it through warranty or finance company. They dispute Audis check and work done..This car has cost in terms of financial loss, injury, ongoing stress, don't know who to turn to or what to do..I'm concerned as it is having a stressful effect on my daughter who works full time and is at her wits end with what to do...a huge commitiment has been made with hp..and now the ongoing problems and financial losses to her are taking their toll and only a few weeks into purchasing a car that was neither cheap, high mileage(over 50000) very old or from dodgy dave down the lane..
Can anyone advise what course of action she can take..where she goes from here as dealers are not being reasonable or co-operative...oh forgot to say she spoke to dealership yesterday..and now they want her to return car...its miles away from us...they haven't offered to pay to take it or offere another car..just said they need to check repair done by audi... A tyre can 'fail' at any time & as such is not the supplying dealers problem....

You've taken it into a dealer, and they say there is nothing wrong with it.
The car has a 3 year warranty from new. If it breaks, Citroen will fix it. Crack on and enjoy driving it.
Today I went to do some shopping, I drove around 8 miles in the the car, which has been running with no problems, apart from the odd intermittent electrical light (I think sensor fault maybe), however after stopping for around 10 minutes and returning to the car, the car wouldn't open with central locking, the car had no power what so ever and wouldn't start. I called out green flag who tried to get some charge into the battery under the bonnet ( due to is not being able to access the boot through central looking and no key access we couldn't access the main battery in the boot until he got some charge in to unlock the car) after this he charged the battery in the boot which started the car. The bonnet was open and it was raining heavy outside. Beside that a strong smell came from the bonnet and smoke started to come from the alternator. As soon as the technician removed the jump leads the engine cut out. After this the car wouldn't hold more than 5-6 volts and I couldn't drive home. It shocks me how the car was fine until I parked up and tried to restart it, no warning signs no distinctive noises. I am a student and a solitary cannot afford major repairs of my car. Does anybody know why or what the solution is to this? Or does anybody have any knowledge of why the ABS/TSC lights have been flicking on and off intermittently since purchasing the car. When the TSC lights come on, the car seems to loose power it doesn't accelerate as though the throttle is being totally cut off. I'm not sure if this is due to a sensor or a loose connection maybe. Any Advice would be appreciated thanks Read more
Sounds like short circuit diodes in the alternator. If you disconnect it and charge the battery the car should run OK until until it goes flat.
Another gap in my knowledge I would like to fill ! Basic car models seem to have steel, while more expensive have alloys.
Having suffered in the past with ageing alloys losing air at the rims, I wonder if alloys are 'superior' and if not what is the point of them ? Read more
So much of what is seen as desirable in road cars (vs actual, genuine racecars) does come from the racing world.
This can be seen in things like spoilers and bodykits....
The coolant light came on in my SEAT leon after being parked in a car park over a weekend. The light stayed on initially but then when I stopped and restarted the engine the light went out. The engine was about 90 degrees when driving. Is this likely a faulty light on the dashboard or something that needs further investigation? Read more
The engine was about 90 degrees when driving
Ignore modern gauges, they are little better than a warning light. All show "normal" when an engine is anywhere between about 70 and 120 degrees. The fan does not switch on in most cars until the engine is well over 100 degrees yet when you sit in traffic with the fan on the gauge still shows "normal"....
We run a 7.5 tonnes Iveco Daily, and to be honest its been a nightmare.

If it's got a 3 year warranty (which I think they have), and you've done 180,000 miles in that 3 years (you say it does 60k a year), then it could be reasonably said that the gearbox has managed an acceptable lifetime.
I'll put it another way : how long is 'acceptable' for a gearbox to last ?
Hello
I'm a bit of a newbie at this, but I bought a car that was badged for £5200 for £4000 with a trade in of my previous car. The Peugoet I bought was stated to have full service history, however when I got the car home I looked for the books (I know I should have done this at the shop) but they were not in the vehicle.
I called the person who sold me the car and they said that was fine they would send it out to me. I called a week later and they said it take 4 weeks for Peugeot to send out the books, so I waited and called back a month later.
Again they apologised and this time said that it would take 6 weeks for this to come through. And when I called again they said it would take another 6 weeks and they would call me. It's been four months.
I've added cruise control to the vehicle but driven 6000-7000 miles in that time
I don't know what to do, they will take the car back but I don't know if I'm getting screwed or what I should do
Any help will be appreciated
Cheers

I suspect it likely the dealer has lost the book or previous owner not ensured the book was stamped.
Normally dealer dont make these kind of errors. I would not let it go but ask another dealer. ...
Hi,
I was wondering, How hard is it to replace the seat belt buckles on a Nissan Qashqai? The previous owner has "fixed" the faulty sensor by just cutting the wires, and I need to fix it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated... Read more
These just unbolt and the wiring connector plugs in .They are not airbag related connections or a pyrotechnic device. If they were, they would usually be coloured yellow.
Hello,
My Toyota Hiace 2005 2.5L diesel is fitted with 2 batteries wired in parallel. I need to replace the batteries. Do you know what amp hours and cold cracking amp are required for the replacement battery?
Thanks, Alex Read more
ECUs can and do fail - it's relatively rare, but it happens. My dad's Fabia had an ECU problem occur at a few weeks old. The supplying dealer was surprised and had to source one from Skoda European HQ but didn't inconvenience my parents, they got a replacement car for the duration etc.
All it takes is a dry joint on the circuit board, or a capacitor failure.
