Definitely stick to petrol power. I'd suggest either a Focus (lots of them to choose from) or something Japanese (better chance of getting a good one, particularly with Toyotas). Whatevr you buy, make sure it has a full service history.

I've got a 5 year old Skoda Octavia L&K 2.0D DSG Auto, which replaced a similar 4 year old car.
It easily fits two full sets of golf clubs, plus electric trolleys, shoes, and even a couple of weekend bags, IN THE BOOT completely hidden from sight. I have even once had a 4 night holiday where three of us got golf clubs, trolleys and the rest in the boot.... Read more
@Avant: I was at the Skoda garage on Wednesday, and had tried sticking my foot under, but for me it wasn't as comfortable by a long chalk. There does seem to be a lot of slack in the lining to the right of the accelerator pedal, so if I did get one there might be a little DIY I could do. I was also a little concerned as to how easily my foot would come out from under there if I needed to brake suddenly. Ah well.
I believe it is the Sorento, as it happens I called in at the Kia garage on my way home from golf today. Apparently there is a new sorento coming out this year, said to be a little bigger. However, the Telegraph motoring review is pretty scathing, and it is only coming as a 7 seater (do we have that many families of 7 in the UK?). www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/car-manufacturers/kia...l...
I ordered my new Captur about two weeks ago. It is a standard model with no factory fitted optional extras. I also ordered the Ivory colour which is a £225 cost as the flat blue I wanted 'is not available'.
I rang today to be told that the car may be available by the end of March, but no guarantees. Given this is a popular model in a fairly popular colour and is not a special factory order, I think this timescale is too long. Frankly they could build the car for me in the colour I want in the timescale since ordering and I would save £225.... Read more
Good point but car now mostly paid for less 60% interest free credit. Wouldn't have bought it otherwise. It's destined for a staff member anyway in due course so not bothered too much.
Got a lift the airport in an E220Cdi. Very nice but still want the V6. Boot big but for a family of five with luggage four times a year I think I want the estate when the time comes to relinquish the Capture.
Hi everyone. I have just adjusted (Tightened) the top two belts on my Terrano by using the adjustment slides as usual but I can only see one long headed bolt on top of the ACC belt pulley. Is there any other nut that needs to be loosened before I tighten this long bolt down thus bringing the pulley up in its slide? Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks. Read more
If I recall ,you need to slacken the guide pulley centre bolt/nut ,adjust the bolt tensioner ,then re tighten the pulley fixing.

All dealers do that - its one owner (prior to the current owner - usually muttered under their breath!) so always add one!
That’s a fantastic list of verts that you come up with in this post! By the way, how do these drop-tops handle the wind noise and buffeting issues? Well, my Cabrio was so bad at tackling these problems that I had to finally mount a wind deflector. Thankfully, the Windblox windblocker is doing a good job of keeping these bogeys at bay even at highway speeds. Read more
I reckon this comment thread is entirely dedicated to the topic of wind deflectors. Interesting! I too have experienced an awful lot of wind noise and stuff on my Cabrio but not after a good wind blocking equipment was affixed. Yes, Windblox windblocker is a good deterrent against gust!

To save confusion, can I suggest that any comments on this go on the thread called 'Clarkson'.
