Anyone had an alloy repaired? Hit pot hole last week and side rim got dented and tyre flat. Its an aftermarket alloy no longer made. My options appear to be get alloy repaired, get a new similar looking alloy, get a 2nd had set off (of 4) flea bay or swap back to my steel wheels that came with car. Tyres have 6-7 mm on and its £13 a corner for rebalancing. Any suggestions? Read more

Thanks for the suggestions, will make claim with council, already have photos. All potholes had orange paint spots on them so presumably council were aware. Re the wheels the originals were wolfrace Asia-tec triads no longer made. Wolfrace do similar looking one called poison for £100 searched around a good while and found sister company alutec alloys identical looking wheel and name for £70 ea? What's in a name similar to Skoda vs Audi I suppose same thing but different name only and different price
I HAVE A REAL GRIPE WITH CAR MANUFACTURERS. AS IF CARS ARN'T EXPENSIVE ENOUGH, WHEN CHOOSING A COLOUR FOR YOUR CAR, WHY DO YOU HAVE TO PAY A REDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY TO HAVE A COLOURED CAR. I REMEMBER THE DAYS WHEN METALLIC WAS AN EXTRA, BUT YOU STILL HAD A CHOICE OF EITHER RED, WHITE OR BLUE SOLID COLOURS. THIS IS PURELY A CON ON THE MANUFACTURERS SIDE TO GET MORE MONEY, IT'S NOT AS IF WHEN YOU COME TO SELL IT YOU GET MORE FOR THE CAR, IT IS AN EXTRA SO NOT TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT BY THE CAR SALESMAN. I CANNOT SEE IT COST MORE, AS TODAYS PAINTS ARE WATER BASED AND EVEN THE SOLIDS HAVE TO BE LACQUERED. TODAY MOST MANUFACTURERS GIVE YOU A CHOICE OF WHITE!!

So even taking into account increased servicing bills, you are saving a good whack over 3 years i.e. ~3.5K.

From the information given i think your friend has the right idea, find yourself a well maintained MB 220/250 Diesel, W211E class would be my choice so 06 on but make sure its facelift.
Then find a good MB indy and keep it well looked after, autobox and axle oil changes as well as the usual servicing, should see 400k miles out of one of those and it'll still sell on.

Firstly do not carry on driving it like this, there is something going wrong and it aint going to mend itself.
Wheel bearing springs to mind, loose wheel another possible, could be any one of a dozen things....

Beware of Mazda diesels. There have been well-documented problems with some of the engines, but no firm information that I know of that any of them can be relied on not to have the problems.

It is possible to get an alloy repaired. But and a big but, not particularly cheap and not always safe. Take it to a specialist (google them) and get an estimate. Check on fixmystreet if the pothole was notified and claim from the council.
