You must live near me (or in an another area with a high proportion of Moslems or Ultra-Orthodox Jews). All too prevalent and something I cannot understand. Would they not want to look after these children, given they usually have many of them?...

Will this car ever become a Classic ? Read more
I own cars that vary in ages from 1931 to 1959 and as far back as I can remember supposed enthusiasts have sneered at and denegrated anything manufactured after 1930, the second world war, and any date from thereon in. Whilst I personally have little interest in anything designed after about 1962 I accept that younger enthusiasts have later cut off dates and I suspect that in a few years time both my moderns, ten and twelve years old respectively, will have an enthusiastic following albeit not by me. Nostalgia is the initial driving force behind the classic status of any vehicle followed by fashion and then the recognision that in it's day it was a great car. The market is fickle and always sorts out the wheat from the chaff, look at how the once overlooked have now been recognised as great cars and are now very desireable. These later Escorts were popular(if you will pardon the pun) when they were new and in due course will find a place in the classic scene.

Mechanic caught on camera taking Orpington motorist's E Class Mercedes-Benz for joyride
Not as bad as I was expecting...
I have a 2.0 BKD TDi engine Altea, has 94k on the clock, nearly a FSH.
It runs pretty well apart for 2 issues; when on cruise if you get to a downhill stretch it will not keep a constant speed, it will apply, let off and then re-apply throttle. On a flat or uphill it is fine.
Secondly, when driving at any speed, if you let off the throttle, there is a delay and then a pronounced lurch into engine braking. It also feels as if there is engine movement, but have changed all gearbox dogbone mounts, which made no real difference. I believe it is throttle behaviour somewhere?
We also have a 1.9 TDi version, which behaves beautifully under the above circumstances.
Help!
This was the kind of thing I felt it would be, if it was a Petrol I would have said it feels like the throttle flap messing about, having a delayed reaction and snapping shut.
Does this flap move under normal driving to vary the air allowed in? I am still learing about Diesels really and just remember the old days people told you that they ran without any air restriction and it was just the fuel amount that varied, but that was in the mechanical pump days....
Are BMW 1 Series any good? They seem a bit bland and not that good on spec. Why are they so expensive? They do look good though! Read more
Only if you buy a manual, though, and I'm not sure why you would; the 8-speed auto is that good.

Would be due a change now then. Last thing you want is your belt to snap.
