Hello, I'm looking for some help/advice please - I'm looking to buy 2nd hand car, I do about 10000 miles a year, mostly motorway, needs to be reliable! - been looking at Peugeot 307/Renault Clio sort of size with £3000 cash and 52 plate skoda fabia to part ex
Be grateful for any tips on what sort of age/mileage I should expect for that...and anything to avoid!!

Forgot to mention I've seen megane 1.5 dci 58 plate 110000 miles for £3500...is this too good to be true...?

With £3k to spend,i would buy a 1.6 Focus,petrol engine.

10k miles I would stick with a smallish petrol no more than 1.6.
Generally avoid French cars, too complex to fix cheaply. Focus or Astra petrol maybe a good place to start.

Don't buy a Renault Megane, far too much to go wrong (and it does!)
As Elekie says, Focus with a 1.6 petrol engine would be your best bet.

Thanks everyone :-) had bad experience with focus in the past - stitched up by dealer and cost a lot to sort all the issues so it kind of put me off them but that was a diesel so I'll look again at petrol

And the key detail omitted on which ALL pricing is based...Which year.? And Reg Letter.. And colour.. And manual/auto

Ah, Sorry, Its Grey, Its 09 , bought 2nd March 2009 New from Renault and its manual and based in cumbria

Definitely stick to petrol power. I'd suggest either a Focus (lots of them to choose from) or something Japanese (better chance of getting a good one, particularly with Toyotas). Whatevr you buy, make sure it has a full service history.
