I have to replace the rear shockers on my trusty old Vectra, but have no idea if the suspension is the self - levelling type, as this dictates the type of shocks I need to buy as I am doing the job myself.

I would be grateful if you could help please. Read more

Thank you very much indeed for making my life a whole lot easier. There is a Main Dealer a couple of miles away from me and I wil pop in tomorrow.

You have saved me from losing the last of the few hairs I have left, from scratching my head. So thank you once again....

Hi I am looking at purchasing new Transit Custom Van, I have a price from my local dealer who I trust as I have bought from them before, but I have a price from an Internet Broker who is approximately 1.5k cheaper, the dealer cannot match the price. With the broker I will not be the first registered keeper, not to much of an issue, but reading some bad reports about this type of purchase.

Hello,
I was the driver of an ambulance responding to an emergency 999 call with blue flashing lights activated.

I was pulling right out of a T-Junction that had a giveway sign, the road was good & dry, no sun glare, the junction was on a straight and very open road with a 30mph speed limit.
As I pulled out of the junction there was a car approx 200-300yards approaching from my right, with such a great distance I found it safe to proceed, before crossing over onto the other side of the road I came to a complete stop, this was to ensure the traffic crossing my path had seen my Blues and intention to cross over - these cars had stopped and were giving way for me to proceed, as I look again to my right to make sure it was still safe the car that was approaching had suddenly attempted to swerve around me but the back of her car clipped my drivers front corner.

There were two witnesses who gave statements to police and stated they don't think I was at fault, the third party also admitted fault to my crewmate in the back of the ambulance but not infront of anyone else, the police were edging that it was my fault either.

I'm just looking for clarification to who is blameworthy?
I was clearly visible, the third party had much more space to brake than needed at 30mph and I was stationary past the giveway line. Read more

Ambulance with Light has the same right as any other car. The lady did have right of way, so the key point is that you were not moving. Hopefully the 2 witnesses will have made that clear in their statement.

A friend of mine has put his car on Auto Trader and received a message with an offer code from the above that alludes to selling his car for cash from these guys. I'm sceptical.

I've never heard of it and wonder whether it's legitimate? Anyone know or had eealings with them?... Read more

Autotrader had a warning on their search results page earlier but that seems to have gone now.

As bathtub tom alluded to, 'newdeal' have a poor grasp of English, e.g. "... we will offer near asking price if your cars what we are looking for. If your wondering how we make our profit - its in the finance deal ..."

just had new tensioner pulley and fan belt fitted to volvo s40 , 1999 . Within a few miles after collection ,i noticed a sloshing sound coming from around gearbox area. Looked underneath car as well as under bonnet . Coolant level and engine oil normal . Car is dry ,no spills etc . Any ideas ? could this be linked to new tensioner pulley, or just coincidence ?

Just sounds like water, oil, fluid etc escaping Read more

Changing the car in 10 days; existing insurance cancelled wef 30 March; MOT and Tax not due til May. However went to give notice of SORN wef 30 March but no; the website assumes with immediate effect and backdates the SORN to 1 =st of the month. Phone call to DVLA gets response that the only option is to re-tax, but of course no refund for existing month so it is in fact still taxed! Read more

SORN becomes active on the day you declare it. This has been common knowledge for years evn with the old paper system.

Your car is now not taxed thus you cannot use it on the road unless you re-tax it. If you use it and get caught by a camera of stopped by the police your car will probably be impounded and a fine and back tax will need to be paid.
