Mr. Sensible

Back to the drawing board. Scrap it. No one will buy it or be able to sell it so whats the point. To be fair, do these far eastern manufacturers know from one budget to the next what our loony governments are doing regarding VED?

The Jimny. Quite a wee classic. I think. One of the cars I've always wanted but was afraid to buy (as they had the same Euro NCAP safety rating as an unopened packet of pickled onion flavoured crisps). A mate of mine in the Scottish borders had one at the time of the big freeze of 2010. He said it was so light and grippy, it would get through places where his mate's Toyota Land Cruiser got stuck. He even hopped across a snowy field in his Jimny to avoid a blocked road. Didn't know you could still get them.

Poor sales mean Chrysler abandoning the UK market. Less than 2000 sales last year. Read more

I had a 300C as a hire car upgrade in Florida a couple of years ago - 5.7l V8

It was genuinely impressive. I borrowed a 7 series not long afterwards and whilst the latter was far more of a "driver's car", the Chrysler handled pretty well and had other-wordly levels of refinement.

The Concert CD player on my 2003 A4 will no longer load CD s. Even the Cleaner CD fails to load.

Can anyone suggest a solution or failing this can I replace the whole unit with one from Halfords or does this affect the head up display ? Read more

Thanks forn your advice, but I'm finding it hard to find a replacement that matches the Concert 2 for sale second hand.

Is it possible to fit a generic unit from Halfords ?

Hi,

The digits are scrambled on the display unit for the radio after I took it to be cleaned by a car wash company. They aren't going to pay up so I'm looking at getting this replaced. My question is whether I need an exact part number to replace this? If so, how do i get in there to read the part number?... Read more

Got hold of a part. Installed it. Everything works fine, except that it goes in to "display safe mode".

After reading around and trying a few things, it looks like it will need to be reprogrammed....

Opinions gentlemen,

Continental ECO contact 3 tyre supplied as OE on a Fabia (rear) in May 2004. At 2.5 years/15000 miles, removed from alloy rim and put into storage in garage - stood upright. Approx 5.5mm in good condition.... Read more

I dread this job... the technique is basically random fiddling and contorting of hands/wrists, for a minimum of 20 minutes or until you feel like crying- which ever happens first, and then finally something clicks into place. Last time (having fitted high output Philips replacement bulbs before which failed within a year) I tried it with a probe mirror and it was just as hopeless.

Nightmare.

Is there a time limit for issuing a parking fine on private land. Received 1 today from july 2014 ( 8 months ago). It was camera operating syatem that was used. Personally I think its way too long, as this is the 1st thing I know about it. Read more

A couple of weeks after becoming responsible for the private parking invoices industry Eric Pickles has launched a consultation. He has been given responsibility because there is obviously a problem with how these invoices are being dished out.

If you are unhappy about your data being released by DVLA to anyone who can fill out a form, if you have received an invoice, if you work in the legal world and have seen how POFA isn't working you have the opportunity to provide your thoughts.

Hi All,

I'm sorry if this is a bit hackneyed but I'm stumped and there seem to be a lot of valid opinions on here. I'm looking at a 2011 Santa Fe with 94K on the clock, one owner, so a lot of motorway driving. Loving the age of the car but it's now 5k short of warranty. I'll probably not do much more than 6K a year, but I want this car to last a good while. Would you touch it with a barge pole? Do 2011 Santa Fe's fall apart at the end of the warranty? Or is it a relatively new tank that will likely keep on trucking for another 100k?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated! Read more

I'd want to see a full proper service history, if that's good and the rest of the car shows use consistent with highways as against bad or off road ( check underneath right underneath not just the bits the pressure washer can easily blast clean for the casual glance), then it might just be a bargain.

Have seen some reports of wheel bearing failure on these, and ISTR the otherwise good warranty was amended to 60k limit for wheel bearings and they aint cheap requiring a complete hub, so check for undue noises....

I've just put a deposit down for a used Auris HSD.

I noticed that the rear tyres were mis-matched (standard Michelin on one side, Continental on the other (quite different tread patterns). They both look reasonably new tyres.
I pointed this out to the salesperson who just said that people will tend just to buy whatever tyre they can get based on price or availability which is fair enough - I know that it's generally recommended to have matched pairs of tyres but in practice there are lots of cars out there with mis-matched tyres.
I guess the previous owner had a puncture at some point.... Read more

Most people don't give such a matter a second (or even first) thought - if the tyre retailer say yes then they rely on the retailer's professional advice, no doubt influenced by cost too
