Had our catalytic converter stolen last night removed with what a mechanic described as the sort of equipment the rescue services use to cut someone out of a wreck , proceeding with the insurance claim but concerned that the replacement could be taken and I've not seen any security system available that could withstand the sort of attack our car has just faced If we get the exhust system replaced but leave the catalytic converter out , put in a piece of straight pipe instead could it still get through the MOT ? No it will fail the mot without it.
General Motors has announced that it is to stop selling Chevrolet models in European markets – including the UK – from the end of 2015. The Chevrolet brand arrived in the UK in 2005, effectively replacing Daewoo. But it hasn’t been successful GM, causing financial losses every year.

But their value brand in Europe does not sell the customer is king and they do not want their products.
And that's a fundamental difference between Europe and North America - over there they seem to blindly believe what the marketing hype wants them to believe whereas Europe is a lot more pragmatic and hard-nosed....
Our local council recently changed the 30MPH limit in our village to 20MPH. Entering the village now on a single-carriageway road you go directly from the national 60MPH to the new local 20MPH - a change of 40MPH. But I though that highway regulations forbade a drop of more than 30MPH in one go? Have the rules changed? Is this situation legal? Read more
Can a limit go from 60 to 20? From my reading of the regs, Yes.
Interim limits can be used, say 60, 40, 20, but they should only be used where an immediate drop from 60 to 20 is deemed unsafe. So if you can see the 20 sign for a good distance from the 60 zone no need for an intermediate speed.
If the DPF has been opened and the insides removed then welded back together to the tester it will still be fitted. How will the MOT spot this modification?
Another clueless govt minister and commenters. DPFs were fitted to some vehicles before it was a legal requirement - so if they pass the relevant emissions test with the filter removed then what's the problem? DPFs are a big problem on some cars because they are unable to regenerate during normal driving, so then you have to drive for 15 minutes keeping the revs at 2000rpm, whether you want to make the journey or not! How is that environmentally friendly? How much extra fuel is burned to keep the DPF at 650C? What are the emissions like during a regen????

Hi folks, just picked up a 2002 Ford KA as a winter runaround tonight. Just after some advice as the brakes take a fair bit of force to operate, and noticed on the previous MOT theres an advisory mentiong front brake imbalance. Anyone have any ideas of what this might be before I have a look myself so I have an idea what to look for. Thanks Read more
disassemble the calipers and make sure the slide pins are free.
I'd change the fluid too.
Have been given conflicting advice. Is it true that the pre 2000 Turbo Diesel engine is by far the best one they made. Have been told several times to avoid the D4D and the 2.2 because it is noisy and has fly wheel problems. Some one says that the 2000 to 2003 D4D is much more reliable than the later models that are more computerised and are more easily serviced and repaired. At the moment I am torn between an immaculate showroom condition 2002 D4D with 108000 on the clock priced at £1600 or a 2006 also low mileage but with a few scratches on the body for only a couple of hundred pounds more. Then there is a really nice V reg. 2 litre diesel Corrolla that has only done 62,000, wonder if that would tow my caravan as well as the Avensis. Read more
That was a lovely engine with a healthy power-to-weight ratio in the Auris. But Toyota GB, who seem to have a death wish as far as the Auris is concerned, stopped offering it. They also won't let us have the 1.8 petrol which I've hired abroad and is another good match for the Auris.

EEPROM = Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory.
These can be selectively erased, allowing them to be reprogrammed in-situ....

For radios whose Serial Number begins with an "M", followed by a six digit number, you can use the following link to work out what your Keycode should be:
