Hi,
Hoping someone can give advice with this- I only have limited knowledge of diesels! Today my Vito van, 2001, 108 cdi model, suddenly starting poring white smoke out the back, huge clouds of it. This is smoke, not steam, smells very smoky too! Van is running rough and went into limp home mode, not revving above 3000.... Read more
Personally I love the look of the new 3 series GT and would give it serious consideration if I was in a position to buy/lease.
It just struck me as ironic though that Saab went chaing the 4 door compact exec market and lost out badly and now companies like BMW will making handsome profits on cars of a similar design concept to the 1998 Saab 900 / 93.... Read more
The Saab 9-3 replacement
Replacement? It's an artist's impression of body panels! Admittedly, it's a fairly handsome and distinctive design-but a 3D drawing does not constitute a car. ...

I've a 2004 Citroen Picasso and it has always been parked in the drive throughout the winter. Every year we go to West Australia for 3 months and to date it has always started first time on our return. It is on the original battery!!!
Neighbours send me photos of it covered with snow each year. I'll know at the end of this month if it will start this year, but if not I'll simply put a charger on for 4 hours, then take it for a new battery.
Looking at the recent news the VW Golf has been named COTY - having driven the new Golf I think it is ok but not really sure that it should have won COTY by such a comprehensive margin.
Is the market that bad that such a car wins by so much or do people think it is really that good.... Read more
The 1982 COTY was the Renault 9. Quite how is anyone's guess!
I was just looking at pictures of the new Bentley Flying Spur which I think is a fantastic looking car which is strange for me because I do not like the look of many Bentleys and think the Rollers look much better.
The pictures of the car I have seen all have the registration 3500 TU.... Read more
Not quite motoring but Rolls Royce related - when RB series jet engines are referred to (RB 211; RB108 etc) the RB stands for Rolls Barnoldswick where the engines were developed - another motoring link the jet business was acquired from Rover after WW2

After a recent service I was advised to get immediate attention to broken / cracked wishbone bushes at a price of £419 inc VAT. I do not necessarily have a problem with this but the car also passed its MOT at the same service. The car is 4 years old, 19000 miles, no vibration or noises when driving / steering and no undue tyre wear. My question is how can a car require immediate attention but pass its MOT. Is the car safe to drive? Read more
My car radio wouldn't stay tuned. I replaced the mast, which didn't help. Then replaced the radio with the same model (bought off ebay) and still have the same problem. Someone suggested it might be the antenna wire in the car that has corroded and would be a big job to repair. Anyone had similar problems or solutions? Thanks! Read more
Post this on www.VWAudiforum.co.uk and someone will provide you with a diagram of where the connector and ampliers are. Regards Peter
Cheers! Have done this

If you've got your figures correct ,ring the dealers sales manager ,tell him that you will be at the dealership on a given date at a given time to collect your cheque .
In addition tell him that your time is valuable ,you will want £25 an hour for a three hour journey in each direction ,another £150 .
My guess would be that you will have your cheque for £1000 the day after your phone call .
I was stopped in May 2012 and it transpired that my driving license was revoked for an offense in 2005, which I was unaware of.
I had been to court for an MS90 (failure to ID driver) and was found guilty and paid my fine. I subsequently had another MS90 from the same court, for which I didn't appear to make a plea, and was found guilty in my absense, and fine again. This incident I was totally unaware of, but apparently the DVLA wrote to me requesting my license for an MS90 offense, which I assumed was for the case that I had already appeared in court for, and had had my license endorsed for.... Where a person is convicted at Court and points awarded against him he has to surrender Licence for those endorsements to be inserted and DVLA notified.
If it comes to the notice of DVLA that points awarded and and Licence not surrendered then they will revoke the Licence.
To unrevoke one has to to reapply for the Licence to DVLA.
In relation to the second matter referred to above if you were unaware of those proceedings then within 21 days of the matter coming to your notice if you make a statutory declaration to the Mags Clerks of this fact, the conviction can be put aside and the case reheard. This will give you the opportunity to contest if you have the evidence to do so.
Its a matter that wants sorting as in addition to the revoked Licence there will be a Court fine outstanding and maybe arrest warrant issued.????

I think the rough running is the clue, what you are seeing is unburnt/partially burnt fuel, its down on one cylinder, usually due to low compression but could be an injetor fault. Take it to a diesel specialist rather than the dealer, they usually know what they are doing and will likely be cheaper.
