I need to obtain the services of an electrician in order to have a light switch replaced.
From what I can gather, the chances are that such a person will not want to do just the above job but will be keen to rewire our property!... Read more
I recall that an electrician can do a test wherby with a meter of some sort he can get an indication of the efficiency / safety of the system. Somewhere between 90 and 100% seems to ring a bell. Please can someone advise me on this matter so that I am not sold something which I do not require....especially re the %age below which rewiring is necessary.
Thank-you in anticipation of your help....
Drive your car for a minute's trip - pay one month's tax. Leave the country from April 29th to June 29th (2 months) - pay 3 months' tax. Fail to notify the DVLA when you scrap your car - £80 fine. Etc.
When will this unnecessary and bullying organization be abolished? Surely votes in Swansea could be bought (the raison d'etre of the DVLA) by re-employing the staff there in some more useful enterprise - clearing up litter or filling in pot-holes? ... Read more

Hi All
Any help would be useful as this is new to me.
I test drove a Smart Car on the Sunday 24th Feb and it seemed fine. Only drove it for about 5 minutes as there was no petrol in it. 2007, 52,000 miles. I put a £300 deposit and would collect it on Monday
Paid the money, £3,700, on Monday and drove back home about 50miles in total. Started the car Tuesday and the engine came on. I booked the car into a mercedes specialist garage on wednesday and its been in there untill now. There is low compression in one of the cyclinders and an engine rebuild is the only option as all other possibilies have been checked. I have confirmed this with a smart car specialist who came to the same conclusion. The works will cost between £1000-£1500.
I have contacted the dealer who I purchased this off and he was very abusive down the phone and said there is no warrenty on the car and hung up.
After leaving him to cool off, and while I was doing some research on the sales of goods act and speaking to the advice line, I then phoned the dealer again. I explained that he should pay for the repair or I will accept a full refund. This time he got threating and said there's nothing they can do so contact who you like.
I have wrote all this in a recorded delivery letter and am waiting a response. I have a strong feeling he will not response to any letters I send him.
I would of course like to avoid going to court but what do you think my chances would be if this would happen?... Read more
Hi there, I've found my way here on a friend's advice, so er.... hello!
I'm not sure if anything will come of this, as it's another of those warranty related ordeals, but whatever.... sometimes it's also good to vent. Warranty/supermarket company names omitted (for now).... Read more
Thanks!
No, just a lengthy letter to the complaints department. Lesson learned is 'always complain' I guess. Thank feck that's all done with though, time to get shopping for another (newer this time) Beamer.

I had a Golf, found some rust around the rubber bungs that filled the holewhere the wiper arm bolted on a LHD car.

Hi all, I've got a right pain in the a*** fault,I bought a nicely modified 2.0 golf cabriolet to finish off and sell just before our glorious summer came, however the other day I'm fitting a very nice iPod stereo into the car, so I locate the heavily abused wiring and proceed to solder an iso connection on to make life a lot more simple, the permanent wire breaks away and decides to rub itself onto the earth wire and I hear a pop from the passenger footwell. So I start to look for a fuse box and find it located in the driver footwell mmmmm, however every fuse is fine but now I have 3 problems 1/ car will not spark it will only spark turning key to accessorie position and when turning key off again however the car will spark only the one spark if I flick the key and i can manage to start it but it takes ages i have to catch it just right lol ,then theres number 2/ I have no permenant live to the stereo and 3/ the cooling fan will not work however before the pop noise happened everything was fine please help before I take a very large hammer, and beat it repeatedly till I'm smiling Read more
Hello,
I am trying to get to the bottom of a problem I am having.
Battery keeps running flat, its only a few months old so took it back to where I bought it and they did a voltmeter test (?) that showed that the battery was good and that the alternator voltage was good but it had a 'ripple too big'. They told me it was an alternator issue but the alternator was replaced at the same time as the battery so I got a second opinion that said the same thing. I went to the garage that fitted the alternator and they have said it isn't the alternator at fault but the battery not holding its charge. However I have also been having various electrical issues e.g. alarm going off randomly that I have read can be due to a faulty alternator and I nearly always get an electrical hum / murmur when just starting or turning off the engine. I tried another battery and still have these electrical problems, and am thinking it is just a matter of time before it starts running flat. Could it be something else? Are there any tests I can ask for to identify the problem? Would an oscilliscope test determine one way or other if the fault was with the alternator? Should I get a parasitic draw test?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks Read more
Connect a voltmeter across the battery, should read about 14.4 volts with the engine running. If the battery has been run flat repeatedly it could have killed it. Its quite possible that something is drawing current when the car is parked, you can check this with a ampmeter connected in seris with the battery, i.e disconnect one battery lead and connect it to the meter and connect the other lead to the battery, it shouldnt read more than about 100ma.
Im not so sure, both geely and great wall have put their UK expansion plans on to slow in recent months.
