Why won't your house structure insurance pay for the repairt?
Not covered. Buildings insurance covers damage to your buildings not to your car....

IB asked how Drive the Deal could offer better terms than his local franchise. I am all for getting the best deal, particularly in these testing times, but would suggest that it is not in our interests to lose valued local dealerships along the way.... Read more
Loyalty is a two way thing, my experience of local main dealers isn't good. Ex. bought a Volvo V70 used and they tried to give a ridiculously low price at first for my px. I walked but surprise surprise they were soon on the phone offering better. when I went to pick the car up the original salesman keep me hanging round for ages before another salesman took over.... not impressed. servicing costs at dealers are far too high and routine servicing is often an expensive oil change with a few checks and of course you always have some other problem that neds fixing. I was told a diff was leaking and needed an immediate replacement on another car, a mechanic pupil of mine rang his mate at another dealers and it turned out that these diffs were known for little oil leaks so just top it up every once in a while. I never changed that diff. If the dealers treated me fairly and didn't charge exhorbitantly than I would be loyal in return.
The surface of the 17" alloy wheels on my car have bubbled up and in places have peeled. Do you have any advice and recommendations on where to go to have them refurbished? Do you know of any especially good companies to do the job and are there any pitfalls to avoid? I live in the RH14 district (near Horsham, West Sussex). Read more
Thanks very much, both for the contact and the maintenance tips. I'll get in touch with wheelworksuk and a friend of mine goes to France a lot so can get that degreaser for me.
Needing some advice - could you just tell me what you'd pick if given the choice...
A Vauxhall Vectra 1.8i VVT SRI 5 Dr 2008 (50,000 miles, 5 year warranty) - not sure if warranty like this sounds too good to be true, but I've yet to call to garage to suss this out, but this is how it is being sold!!!... Read more
72 dudes is right about warranties: also it's quite unusual for a five-year-old car to be offered with a free warranty - suggesting that it's been on their forecourt for some time and they can't shift it.
A Vectra SRI won't be any more interesting to drive than the Avensis: it'll just have harder suspension. If the Avensis you have in mind isn't suitable for any reason, don't cross the Octavia, Superb and Mondeo off your list.

Never buy a red one, they fade as if they're dissolving in the rain.
Now they were cellulose based, an old tech 10 or 15 years ago, banned for the long term death it inflicts on the sprayers....
