Hello,

My Pug is idling around 1050rpm, waaay too fast I believe. I never noticed as I was doing motorway and traffic-free miles till recently, now the traffic jams affect me it's been noticed. How can I adjust them down? In layman's terms please as I'm an ignorant here :-)... Read more

In the 405 the 1.9 had a completely mechanical pump and adjustments could be made although they were rarely if ever needed it, your's I believe has electronic management in which case there are no adjustments and you will need to get the fault codes read in order to find the problem.

If by any chance yours does have a mechanical pump it will have a throttle cable connected to it and probably an adjustment on the throttle lever, I suspect though the fact that it needs adjusting indicates that it doesn't....

My wife's Micra 1.2SE Auto's engine warning light first came on about two weeks but went off for a few hours after the car was serviced. It's now on all the time.

Along with the warning light she is getting less than 200 miles to a tank of petrol (av. mileage c.22mpg) whereas she usually gets over 300 miles to a tank (c.38 mpg). Any suggestions??? The local garage suggests the CAT?... Read more

The garage says it can't be the timing chain because there's no rattling sound from the enging...is that correct?

In a previous thread someone mentioned that it is easier (and less taxing on the battery) to start a car by pressing the clutch pedal.

Is this true?... Read more

I used to have a car that froze its handbrake cables. The drive's on a slope, so I would leave it parked in gear. The wife could never understand this............. I had to buy a new starter motor.

I once reached in through the window of another parked car to warm it up, it had been parked in gear. Of course the damn thing started. The car it hit stopped it....

Hi all,

Here is my story :

I bough a 2001 Audi TT with 46123 miles last saturday (11/12). And unfortunately I have few problems.
The saturday I just did a the way back to my home (130 miles) without any major problem, just like a "hole" in the speeding up but this happen only once.
I booked a full service plus Cambelt change and a MOT on the car and at my home on tuesday and I didn't drive it more before that.
The mechanic did the full service + Cambelt (total : 580£) change but the car failed to pass the MOT because of wear and tear parts such as the front tyres who have 0 mm thread.

Before I bought the car I asked by mail to the seller how were the tyres and he told me that they were nearly new (I got his writing answer). He also told me he checked the car carefully (112 pts)

After that I went to mechanic 5 miles away from my home, to change the wear and tear part to pass the MOT. On the way the engine warning light came on, so I requested to the mechanic to have a look in the same time. Also I felt again the "hole" in the speeding up.

My mechanic investigated on that and told me that he is 99% sure that the turbo part is failing, and this part was failing before I bought it. Also he thinks the mileage is suspicious for a car of 10 years old.

I called the dealer, who wants to investigate himself on the problem, but he told me that he'll never repair the turbo as he thinks I broke it.
He said also that if I go to court for that I will lose, as this happen before

Also, the title's car ad said : "2001 AUDI TT QUATTRO 225 BHP COUPE S LINE BLACK", but the car is not an S-Line it's an Audi TT Quattro 225 BHP only. The S-Line add few features.

To resume the problems are :
- Tyres with 0 mm thread. So the car is unroadworthy isn't it ?
- Turbo failure.
- Wrong description of the car.

I already paid 1080£ to replace wear and tear parts. I really don't know what to do next. I'm thinking to give the car to Audi to allow them to investigate on the mileage and on the turbo.

You can see why its so lucrative to sell cars via fleabay you seem to be able to get rid of any old rubbish a quick look through the offers and you can see so many cars that are suspect .Its also a good thing that there are the likes of Lucy around to fight for the customers when it all goes pear shaped.

I replaced the battery on my diesel AstraVan as it was becoming a bit slow cranking on cold mornings. New battery is working great but thought I’d have a go at rejuvenating the old one and keep topped up for emergencies. Added battery water and used my 3 stage charger that I got from Lidl. It charges up then goes into float mode. A friend lent me their 8 stage Ctek charger as it has more functions and also a “Recond” function which says it recovers deeply discharged batteries. With the Lidl charger it says it’s fully charged and goes into float mode, however when connecting the Ctek 8 stage charger it quickly goes through the bulk charge phase into absorption charge but seems to just stop on the absorption mode. It’s been connected since yesterday and still no further than the absorption charge, digi meter showing 14.2v. Is it likely the battery is kaput or does it normally take a long time on absorption? IMHO you are wasting your time & electricity.

The guts of the battery plates get used up over time & use & no amount of charging will restore it....

Following a recent disagreement with a concrete post in an underground car park, I now have a broken door mirror on my Ford C-Max.

I'm thinking about trying to repair it myself, (I only want to replace the glass) but it looks like the glass is attached by wires to the rest of it.... Read more

You may well be able to buy the mirror glass with just an adhesive backing. It won't be as efficient (if the heating still works).

Have a look on e-bay and try your local motor factors.

Ive been having starting problems for the last few months. After turning off engine, the car will take about 10mins of constant key turning to get started again. It begins to start, but something cuts in and causes it to stall. All lights come on the dash. It always starts eventually, so If it was the immobilisor, why would it start at all?

I have come across a temporary solution however. Whenever I park up, instead of turning engine off using key, I stall it. This way, I have never had starting issues. It starts up without fault 100% of the time... Read more

I had EXACTLY this problem with a Merc C230K last winter. Put in on a computer and no faults found. EVENTUALLY - after proper 'mechanicing'! There was a 'cracked' relay in the boot for the power supply. This was also affected by the way it was parked so that it 'twisted' in wrong position!

Thanks Lucy. I shan't worry about it then. My housemate also got a ticket too because her pass flipped over, and she is stressing about it. I'll pass on the message.
