I have had the van since new. It is our only vehicle and has only done 52k miles. It always starts first time, and no cutting out until I switch off. But intermittently I wll drive up to the main road and whilst waiting there the revs will bre revving as though starting in a grand prix. The same happens if I stop in traffic. Then if I try to go into 4th or 5 th gear it will jump and i have to slow and go into 3rd to stop the kangarooing. Other times I can drive 4 or 5 miles with no problem - no further.I told the garage about this at its recent yearly service /MOT and they have cleaned the throttle control and put some german fuel system cleaner in the petrol tank.It is no better. Please advise. Read more

I thought that just switching ignition off and back on whilst warmed-up engine is running without letting it stall did that,no?

Can you hear the ISV buzzing ? ...

We are being plagued by cold callers, I understand there is a web site we can use to ensure these type of calls are blocked.

Can anyone point me in the right direction.... Read more

I was hit by an insured third party on a motorway at night. No other cars were involved, and there were no independent witnesses. Quite a high speed prang, but remarkably little damage to my car.

When they are both with the same insurer there are supposed to be "Chinese Walls". I suspect from experience, but have no figures to support, that more "same insurer" accidents go split liability in which case the insurer will pick up revenue from both parties in increased premiums.

The reason they continue to pay is that no one has the bottle to step off the metaphorical roundabout. They moan about it all the time but then pass on the cost to the motorist in higher premiums.

This car refused to start in the recent cold weather so I replaced the original 2001 battery, no brainer from the sofa. However it continued its recalcitrant behaviour into the warmer weather even with the new battery. Mortified after spending £60 I fiddled around with this and that and it seems ok now, after a few days.

I sprayed wd40 here and there, in a few connectors. Tightened the earth on the wheel arch which wasn't loose, similar with battery connectors. Remembering my old Ford, gave the starter motor a few knocks with a little hammer. Sprayed some wd40 in the ignition key.... Read more

Think it's a sticky solenoid as it failed again today after 5 days of being good, perked up with a sharp tap. Surprised cars are still like this.

I was hoping not to have to take the starter off as there's 6 feet of lino and a million rusty screws before you get to even look at it.

Kind of an odd one, and apologies if this is posted on the wrong forum but does anyone have a link for any sites that would have detailed info on 306 engine components?

Specifically I am trying to find out the absolute maximum current that can be drawn by the EGR solenoid and the 3rd piston deactivator.... Read more

My oil pressure warning light flashes once or twice only whilst cornering and was wondering if I should be concerned. It does not flash at any other time. It has the correct level of oil, never hardly needs topping up and has a genuine oil filter. I have only ever used 10/40 semi synthetic oil and the engine has done 119,000 miles. I always thought the baffle plate in the sump prevented this. Do I have an impending problem?

Hi i bought a car from a car trader mid to end september - It was a Kia Sportage (4x4)W reg, I paid £1200.00 for it

The problem is that the 4x4 system does not work. We only found that out last week due to the snow.

Am I entitled to a refund of the trader? I am going to see the trader tomorrow, and I would like to know where i stand before I accept anything from him

Hope you can help

Lucy will answer properly, but presumably sale of goods act, within 6 months, presumption of pre-existence, if he didn't tell you at the time, allow opportunity to rectify at dealer's cost, reject as unfit for purpose, etc.

the engine keeps cutting out when stopping or slowing down sometimes i can keep it going but put i can put my foot nearly to the floor and the rev counter will be lucky to get to 1,000 rpm, it is also jerking along at times. then the epc light stated coming on. i restarted the engine and all was ok for few mins, i did this many more times on the 200 mile journey home. we have had it serviced, breathers have been checked and the air flow meter has been checked, any ideas? hi

I was in stand still traffic in the right hand lane of a duel carriageway yesterday. I indicated left and moved towards the left side of my lane to wait for a gap to move into. when the left hand lane started to move, a lorry in that lane crashed into my door mirror. At this point I was still stationary.... Read more

My van is not really the problem. the mirror is a bit loose but I can sort it myself. However, the truck company have said that there is damage to the lorry and I don't want to loose my no claims over this. if I do loose my ncd, it will cost me around £400 per year on my commercial insurance.
