Nissan Micra 1.2SE Auto - Micra engine warning light - aja007

My wife's Micra 1.2SE Auto's engine warning light first came on about two weeks but went off for a few hours after the car was serviced. It's now on all the time.

Along with the warning light she is getting less than 200 miles to a tank of petrol (av. mileage c.22mpg) whereas she usually gets over 300 miles to a tank (c.38 mpg). Any suggestions??? The local garage suggests the CAT?

BTW The car is a 04 plate with 50,000 miles on the clock.

Nissan Micra 1.2SE Auto - Micra engine warning light - elekie&a/c doctor

Most common faults on these are for lambda sensors (2 on this model) and fault codes for crank or cam sensors which usually indicates the dreaded timing chain worn syndrome.You will need to get a diagnostic check to be more accurate.Doubt if the cat is in trouble.hth

The garage says it can't be the timing chain because there's no rattling sound from the enging...is that correct?
